Feels properly autumnal here so have fired up the slow cooker and a nice bit of beef is having a leisurely red wine bath. Yorkshire puddings and roasties with a load of veg for dinner early evening is the plan and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle of red to sip a glass of whilst prepping and doing the Sunday papers crossword.
Anyone else feeling the need for comfort food or are some of you clinging onto summer by your fingertips 😂

Just put bolognese in slow cooker, wishing it ir was beef stew.

GroovyChick87 · 13/10/2024 12:37

Freezer food or chippy tea later. I'm not very well today and I can't be bothered.

RaraRachael · 13/10/2024 12:37

OH is making hunters chicken with peas and roast potatoes for dinner so a break from the kitchen for me 😄

Chicken and chorizo pie, requested by the kids, mash and broccoli

GeorgesMummy5224 · 13/10/2024 12:39

We usually have Sunday dinner every week but only got back off holiday yesterday so it's toad in the hole for us with cheese sauce and veg 😋 hubby is having homemade apple pie for pudding but I'm not sure what I'm having yet 🤔

mitogoshigg · 13/10/2024 12:39

No idea, it's still at Lidl! Probably opt for something easy like beef stew and dumplings

Gladicalled · 13/10/2024 12:40

we Are having a Greek type lemon chicken and potatoes. All gets done in one pot.

Will do some mixed peppers and tzatziki with it. And pita bread for the teenage boy that’s never full 😂

ThisTimeNextWeekDavid · 13/10/2024 12:41

A chicken with thyme, lemon rind, garlic, tiny bit of sage all finely chopped and mixed with butter and stuffed under the skin is currently roasting in the oven.

Pork and chestnut stuffing prepped, cauliflower cheese prepped, potatoes steaming after their parboil. Sauted Cavelo Nero, roasted carrots and traditionally sliced runner beans for the veg.

Doubly winning as I don’t need to make gravy - I made 4 x the required amount last time I did a roast chicken and froze in portions. A stress free roast means I am WINNING AT LIFE.

Did a load of gardening earlier and about to have a bath before eating around 2pm and then relaxing on the sofa where I’m going to watch Butch Cassidy (inspired by another thread) with a big glass of wine or 3 (am off work till next Monday too!).

Westfacing · 13/10/2024 12:44

Brunch was a 3-egg tomato and cheese omelette.

For dinner I'm tempted to try a whole chicken in the air fryer - was given a double Ninja as a birthday gift and have made much use of it. I've been watching YouTube videos and it looks very do-able!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 13/10/2024 12:44

I made lentil soup yesterday in the slow cooker so I'll have a bowl for lunch with a ham and mustard sandwich. At the moment, I have chicken pot pie filling (chicken, leek, celery, carrots and mushrooms)in the slow cooker. When it's nearly ready, I'll add peas and cream. I'll serve it with mashed potatoes and tenderstem broccoli.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/10/2024 12:46

@SlothOnARope i think we need to hear more of this strike.

We've just had egg and bacon baps for brunch. Fish pie for dinner. DD has gone away for a few days do we can cook all the things she doesn’t like.

DominoRules · 13/10/2024 12:46

We had bacon sandwiches at a local cafe after a long dog walk and DH is doing a full on roast pork later - he’s been away on a work trip for 10 days so always loves to cook for us when he gets back, they’ll be enough for about 20 people even though there’s only 4 of us 😂

MaybeItsBecauseImALodoner · 13/10/2024 12:46

Beef stew with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes and pear sponge with clotted cream for dessert. I've cooked enough beef to shred up tomorrow add lots more gravy and veg and make a cheese top shepards type pie.

ThreeB · 13/10/2024 12:47

Another one who dusted off the slow cooker today. I've popped a gammon in it and we'll have that with kale and dauphinois jacket potatoes. I'll use the cooking water to make some lentil soup for the freezer too

Parry5timesbeforedeath · 13/10/2024 12:52

I am in batch cooking mode as the week is busy. So I have made a creamy leek, mushroom, courgette and ham pasta bake. Most of it will go into the freezer but we will have a bit tonight as a side to chicken burgers and sweet corn.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/10/2024 12:59

Back from a peaceful couple of hours at the allotment
Time for a cuppa and then see if I can get some batch cooking and baking done to get ahead for the week.
Everyone is out so the house is lovely and peaceful.

Chicken leek and mushroom pie with veg and roasties, then Queen of puddings or a crumble. Love an afternoon in the kitchen pottering.

Twinkletwinklelil · 13/10/2024 13:04

I’m now craving a leisurely red wine bath 😂😂😂😂

roast chicken with roasties and veg. Simple but comforting

Dogdaycommeth · 13/10/2024 13:05

It's a new recipe I'm trying

Allthebrightplaces · 13/10/2024 13:07

henlake7 · 13/10/2024 13:07

Hummus and rice cakes....

Im currently going through a CBA phase!

ItReallyWasAgathaAllAlong · 13/10/2024 13:10

Beef casserole with mushrooms, carrots, and plenty of red wine. Going to add some dumplings. Also going to make little garlic potato stacks (is it a Sunday dinner if you don’t double-carb it?).

RosieFlamingo · 13/10/2024 13:11

Sausage casserole here. Veg in the slow cooker and ill fry and add the sausages later.

redtrain123 · 13/10/2024 13:12

Roast chicken (which young adult son will cook, Mumsnet Brownie points scored).

Had an Autumn vegetable broth soup at a pub restaurant on Friday. Had dumplings in. Yum!

Theoldcuriosityshop · 13/10/2024 13:13

Spicy lamb stew cooking away nicely in the slow cooker.
