Feels properly autumnal here so have fired up the slow cooker and a nice bit of beef is having a leisurely red wine bath. Yorkshire puddings and roasties with a load of veg for dinner early evening is the plan and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle of red to sip a glass of whilst prepping and doing the Sunday papers crossword.
Anyone else feeling the need for comfort food or are some of you clinging onto summer by your fingertips 😂

We’re having sticky sausage traybake with sweetheart cabbage, with homemade apple crumble and custard for dessert.
so autumnal!

chosenone · 13/10/2024 15:25

Beef Bourgion with roasties, green veg and carrots, possibly Yorkies too. Apple crumble and custard after… Autumn mode activated 🙌 enjoy!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/10/2024 15:26

Creamy corn chowder and crusty rolls this evening 😋

Had a bacon sandwich at my ds's football match earlier. Came home freezing and fancy some comfort food so I'm going to make a big lasagne.
I was going to have it with salad but I'm not in the mood now so might just have chips instead.

Shouncer · 13/10/2024 15:27

A bout of D&V in the house, had planned to go out for a Sunday roast so takeaway instead. No thought or cooking needed

Touloosia · 13/10/2024 15:44

We're having roast chicken with veg, stuffing and gravy.

I'm going to make a roast chicken and veg soup tmrw with the leftovers.

That sounds lovely!

It was! I went for the butter beans option.

@SlothOnARope i think we need to hear more of this strike.

We've just had egg and bacon baps for brunch. Fish pie for dinner. DD has gone away for a few days do we can cook all the things she doesn’t like.

Certainly. This is how it went down: I cooked the DC healthy well-balanced varied evening meals 7 days a week for 19+ years, while trying to encourage good table manners and interesting conversation. In return the DC only want beige slop, communicate in grunts and slurps, use their phones at the table and try to feed my delicious stuffed aubergines to the cat.

As chief cook & bottle washer, I therefore balloted myself and decided on complete withdrawal of labour for 24 hours. If the DC persist in being ungrateful little shits fussy eaters, this is to be followed by extended strike action over a 7-day period and/or a work-to-rule (eat what you're given) until acceptable working conditions are restored.

Just setting up the picket line with a flask of tea and random bits of cheese out the fridge.

MoneyAndPercentages · 13/10/2024 16:48

Good on you @SlothOnARope!! 😍

I went for a very bougie prowl of Borough Market yesterday, and came away with a mixture of fancy cheese, caramelised onion chutney, and fresh sourdough so I'll be making a giant toastie. DS will likely be eating broccoli and veggie patties out the freezer because I know he won't appreciate my toastie for the thing of beauty it will be 😂

isthereaway · 13/10/2024 16:52

Slow cooker casserole. Chicken legs & pork sausages & a shed load of veg, bouillon & some paxo to thicken it up. Dumplings have just gone in. Yorkshire puddings, green beans & peas. Apple pie /choc cake & cream for pud. Ds has been ill, so I'm trying to feed him up.

annlee3817 · 13/10/2024 16:54

Beef stew, Dumplings and mash, was so good

Fuckitydoodah · 13/10/2024 16:57

Roast beef with all the trimmings (frozen Yorkshire puds) followed by homemade apple and cinnamon crumble and custard.

I really fancy stew and dumplings now, though.

mondaytosunday · 13/10/2024 17:04

Hmmmm. My son went home today and my DD is at uni so just me. Choices are chicken Kiev and baked potato or steak (and baked potato). Last night I made chicken burgers and wedges with a marinaded cucumber salad - not very autumnal I guess! Will be making butternut squash soup tomorrow though - that is soooo delicious!

Onesailwait · 13/10/2024 17:12

Thanksgiving here, so full turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I love it, just like Christmas without the gifts & stress. The best part is my husband and eldest are doing all the cooking.🦃🦃

Beef tacos with all the different toppings.
We do rice, salsa, salad, cheese, pickles, beans, guacamole, sour cream and tortilla crisps.

They always go down well with the kids.

StressedQueen · 13/10/2024 17:17

We were out early ice skating today so had Mcdonalds for breakfast and we all grabbed a breakfast wrap while my youngest two had a muffin with jam and the other had a cheesy bacon flatbread. Lunch was some tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. Dinner is going to be slow roast pork with vegetables.

Tekphobebruvva · 13/10/2024 17:18

Fake toad in the hole using frozen Yorkshire pudding, favourite sausages from the butcher, onion gravy home made of course, mashed potato, savoy cabbage with loads of butter.

Going to try steamed suet pudding with jam for dessert.

OldTinHat · 13/10/2024 17:20

I had a some jelly babies for lunch and have a chicken noodle salad for tea.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/10/2024 17:22

HermoniePotter · 13/10/2024 17:23

How do you make your marinaded cucumber salad @mondaytosunday ?

Another beef stew here today..
... shallots, carrots, baby potatoes and beef.. simmered for 2 hours on a low heat. Just debating whether to add dumplings or just roast some parsnips on the side.

Also made Butternut squash and apple soup for our midweek lunches (I like something quick but warm for WFH days) , a chicken, chickpea and red pepper madras curry for the week, a Bara Brith for elevenses at work, an apple and blackberry crumble, and an apple and custard sponge I saw on Instagram earlier.

The sponge turned out very well and will be delicious with a big scoop of ice cream later...

Putting my feet up with a cuppa now before motivating myself to clean my bathroom.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/10/2024 17:41

TheLadyIsAVamp · 13/10/2024 17:42

We're having dim sum, Spicy Beef & Sweet Potato Bun, Pork Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), Chicken satay dumplings, Lamb and Carrot Dumplings, Chicken and vegetable Japanese gyoza, Pork and chive Japanese Gyoza, Sticky rice, Slaw with edamame and dipping sauces followed by some custard buns. A treat ordered a box online looking forward to trying it out.

longtompot · 13/10/2024 17:43

I am making this for our Sunday dinner, but with a drumstick instead of breast as we can't get that in the shop yet. Along with red cabbage and cranberry sauce, it's going to feel a bit like a mini Christmas dinner!
