Feels properly autumnal here so have fired up the slow cooker and a nice bit of beef is having a leisurely red wine bath. Yorkshire puddings and roasties with a load of veg for dinner early evening is the plan and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle of red to sip a glass of whilst prepping and doing the Sunday papers crossword.
Anyone else feeling the need for comfort food or are some of you clinging onto summer by your fingertips 😂

We’re having a butternut squash, lentil, spinach and coconut milk stew. I will be serving it with rice.

Lunch was a pizza from the freezer. I was so busy in the garden that I didn’t want to cook!

Some an hour in the local with the Waitrose mag. Planning some meals for the week ahead. So far chicken pie this evening, maybe a squash soup for tomorrow, will make Ragu for a meal then freeze portions. Some nice ideas in the Waitrose mag this weekend

I do quite often do a roast, but nothing at all Sunday-ish today.

We’re having pasta thing I once adapted from an M&S ready meal - a tin of (flaked) salmon plus broccoli florets in a white sauce - but I add a good splash of white wine and some grated cheese to the sauce.

Plenty of broccoli, mix all together with cooked penne. Very tasty.

Do is doing a whole chicken on the barbecue. We'll have it with barbecued sweet corn, pak choi and steamed baby potatoes. CanMt wait!

CarrotCakeandCoffee · 13/10/2024 18:06

Roast chicken roast for us with all the trimmings! With vanilla cupcakes for pudding as we did some baking with our 4 year old DS

I made venison wellington with dauphinois potatoes, crispy kale with red wine gravy.

How long do you cook the venison for and at what temperature please? It sounds a lovely meal. What wine do you have with that?

Bearbookagainandagain · 13/10/2024 19:08

Sandwiches and hot chocolate for lunch as we went on hike with the kids in backpacks, beef and carrots stew for dinner tonight to warm up a bit after a long day outside!

I normally use a Shiraz but a good Merlot is also nice.

We went out for the ottolenghi special pizza at yard sale pizza - both the meat and veggie were delicious and I'm still full six hours and four miles walking later...

Roast butternut squash, onions and peppers and baked Camembert. ‘Twas yummy and even the DC enjoyed it.

DelilahBucket · 13/10/2024 20:31

No lunch today, we had eggs and avocado on toast for brunch this morning.
We had butternut squash too for dinner, with chicken, bacon, onion and spinach in a creamy sage sauce with mash. Warm and comforting.

Today we are either having homemade tomato and red pepper soup with cheese and ham rolls or potato rosti with sour cream and dill. Actually one will be for lunch I expect.

This week on the agenda is stuffed mushrooms and chicken teriyaki stirfry.

Fish Pie for lunch

Party tea for tea, birthday cake for pudding.

Early pub lunch after a muddy dog walk, they do great roasts at this pub so that's the road I'll go down. Big slow cooked jacket potatoes for dinner with lots of toppings

Fevertreelover · 20/10/2024 09:59

I had beef stew last night and the left overs are becoming meat and potato pie today.

Not sure, my food delivery arrived at 8am and I went to the butchers yesterday so possibilities are endless.

I wanted some liver, not sure if DC will eat it but they're anaemic and tired and I though't I'd try it and see. So, could be lambs liver with smoked bacon, red wine and juniper berries. I also bought a 2lb piece of shin so I could make chilli and freeze half.

I'm going to make celery and stilton soup for lunch. Have already made bread (well my breadmaker did overnight).

I think I'll make a steamed chocolate pudding too because I opened a jar of compote yesterday and need an excuse not to waste it!

Definitely a day in here today including cooking and eating, the weather is vile.
