Feels properly autumnal here so have fired up the slow cooker and a nice bit of beef is having a leisurely red wine bath. Yorkshire puddings and roasties with a load of veg for dinner early evening is the plan and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle of red to sip a glass of whilst prepping and doing the Sunday papers crossword.
Anyone else feeling the need for comfort food or are some of you clinging onto summer by your fingertips 😂

Normally do a roast but can't be bothered today. Dh having cooked packet beef with new potatoes and veg. I had mine early as missed breakfast and had a jacket potatoe crisped in the oven with a chicken veg and spinach curry we had last night. It was lovely. Teenager had a late breakfast.

workingmumguilt · 13/10/2024 13:22

sausages mash and gravy

Fescue · 13/10/2024 13:24

Proper autumnal here. I was talked into buying a duck on Friday, so that's going into roast later with some rosemary, potatoes and carrots. We will also serve peas and some wild cabbage with it and a sauce made from some cherries that I bottled two years ago with some armagnac. They are sour cherries (this is England...) so I am hoping will be OK. For desert, plum and almond crumble. The plums are a late variety and were picked last week.

That sounds delicious!

Thanks. We shall see x

Sunwindrain · 13/10/2024 13:31

Very Autumnal here so a mixed bean, tomato and vegetable pie cooking in the oven with some roast potatoes. Will serve with tender stem broccoli. I've batch cooked some sultana and apple scones which we'll have for pudding with raspberries and clotted cream and a nice cup of coffee.

Fescue · 13/10/2024 13:31

Dessert even! For desert......only sandwiches.

flyingmice · 13/10/2024 13:43

Pita bread with reindeer meat and salad. Might make mashed potatoes instead of pita bread though.

Squirrelblanket · 13/10/2024 13:44

We're having bangers and mash served in a giant Yorkshire pudding with lots of gravy.

TheStroppyFeminist · 13/10/2024 13:51

Roast duck with cranberry sauce
crispy roast potatoes
Charred white cabbage in marmite butter
Broccoli with garlic, anchovies, rosemary and chilli
green beans with lemon zest and garlic butter

Brisket is on offer at Lidl, so we have beef stew.

Everyone has had Covid for a fortnight and appetites are just beginning to recover.
Poke bowls for breakfast, homemade beans with cheezy toast for lunch and beef stew with whatever for dinner.

DifficultMiddleChild · 13/10/2024 14:10

Cauliflower and broccoli cheese courtesy of Waitrose. Surprisingly good even though I don't care for cauliflower or broccoli - cheese sauce makes many not nice things better.

notatinydancer · 13/10/2024 14:21

Roast pork , rhubarb crumble.
Red wine.

Snooks1971 · 13/10/2024 14:25

Slow cooker out here too, making its Autumnal debut!

Beef also enjoying a red wine bath, sharing the jacuzzi with hearty (has to be hearty, it’s Autumn) chunks of carrot and whole baby onions slowly simmering.

Herby dumplings too, with minty greens.

This sounds absolutely divine.

I'm making this after someone suggested schnitzel for some pork I need to cook, crushed new potatoes and probably cavolo Nero. No dessert.

Pork Schnitzel with Le Gruyère AOP Réserve Recipe

Schnitzel is given the Michelin-starred treatment in this fantastic recipe, adorned with quail eggs, anchovies, capers and Le Gruyère AOP Réserve cheese.

The kids requested tacos so we're having beef tacos. We had to pop to the shop after climbing the local hill in the bracing autumn sunshine this morning so I was able to grab the ingredients w plus a hot dog from the hot cupboard for lunch.

Roast pork here also, with roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, savoy cabbage, carrots and peas.

Yes, lovely for a 🐇.
If you work hard and physically, that stuff would not fill you up for five minutes.

SnowFrogJelly · 13/10/2024 14:52

Nothing, I am on kitchen strike 🙂

Same! Probably be shite from the freezer/cupboards.
I made chicken kofta curry and apple crumble yesterday. Spent hours in the kitchen. DS2 didn't have dinner with us (no warning), brought his girlfriend round and they kept me up with their noisy talking until 1am, woke me at 4am thundering down to the kitchen and they were still talking so I was up until 5am and I was working 8-12:30 so now I'm in bed and they can sort themselves out. I'm pissed off and not doing anything for anyone.
DH has taken them all out shopping so at least it's quiet now.
