I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to invest a bit in some useful things.

I'm wondering about an air fryer. Would that be a good choice, would you say?

What else might be good?

So far I've got:
A really good new mixing bowl!!!!!
Possibly an air fryer
Possibly a new waterproof coat

Air fryers are fab!!! Definitely yes to this!!

I’ve pretty much made my mind up on it. Just waiting to see if the Ninja dual one has a good offer before Christmas!

I’d go for a robot vacuum too!

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
sign up for the Ninja site. Sometimes you can combine offers - and if you leave it in your basket for 24 hrs the often give another 10% off. You can also get reconditioned ones from their EBay shop.

Victorinox 11 cm Swiss Classic Serrated Edge Tomato/Utility Knife in Blister Pack, Set of 2, Black https://amzn.eu/d/0E2mQUM
These and a big serrated bread knife are all the knives I’ve needed.

oh I buy those knives in bulk because they afre so useful and perform well.

What a lovely thread! I too an an Emma Bridgewater fan and haunt her seconds section and sale. My choice though for the 1000 (actually it costs less but needs top be installed) is my personal best ever dull purchase which is a whole house water softener. Soft towels and clothing, no itchey scalp or skin (apart from the menopausal lizard legs) and no constant limescale removal from sinks, loos and so on. Yes it needs ongoing purchases of salt but apart from that its trouble free luxury.

I would think waterproof boots and coat - though most waterproof ones are 'boil in the bag!' Proper gloves (i.e not from Primark!!). Another phone would be good as only got a basic one now (what is facebook and what;s app????!!!!). Sadly lost my last one with its 100's of audiobooks on it.

Recently I did something similar. But went for nice things I’d get pleasure in using.

i got.

new pots. All the sizes. Good quality new pots. Binned the old done in ones.

new mugs, I got the Emma Bridgwater snowdrop ones. 25 pounds a pop and I got 8. Got rid of all the others apart from a couple of special ones, like best mum etc.

new towels. I got Egyptian cotton ones from the white company, in oatmeal. ,y last ones were white company and I’ve had them about a decade, so time for some lovely new ones, and the others can go on the large pile of guest towels.

new sheets, pillow cases and quilt cover , 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton , two sets for our bed.

all in spent about a grand, but totally worth it. The bedding is lovely to climb into, the towels lovely to use, the mugs a pleasure to drink from, and it’s great having good quality pots in all the sizes.

I think this sounds lovely actually. I've changed my mind! I'd do this.

A thermomix. It's more like £1400 but is such a great appliance

Ive seen this recommended before what makes this so great and has it replaced other appliances for you?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/10/2024 17:45

I think that’s the second time gloves have been mentioned and I do need some new ones. Any recs? I have very small hands.

@Fofftwenty21 I don't really have any appliances so this does everything works as a blender, can do soup risotto, batters, sauces..even done basic cakes (banana bread, carrot cake, scones) and can make dough in it. I use it all the time.

I'd like to recommend my new Arc'teryx jacket for the park as I spend 90 minutes with the dog every day
It's super warm and really thin. Looks better on than in the photo. I also got a discount code so mine was £320
Arc'teryx Beta Insulated Goretex coat
