I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to invest a bit in some useful things.

I'm wondering about an air fryer. Would that be a good choice, would you say?

What else might be good?

So far I've got:
A really good new mixing bowl!!!!!
Possibly an air fryer
Possibly a new waterproof coat

Robot vacuum
Air fryer (took me a while but it's used for everything I'd normally put in the oven, faster and cheaper)
Sunrise alarm clock, I have the Lumi but there are plenty of good ones now
Decent blackout blinds or curtains

I would also give myself permission to throw out all the tried-once-and-didnt-like-it make up, lotions and potions. I hold onto them because I don't want to admit I've wasted money!

Heated blanket! Game changer for the winter when it’s not cold enough to
justify the heating

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2024 20:19

Ooh a nice blanket is a lovely idea.

We bought black out curtains for the bedroom earlier in the year - absolutely great and I wish we'd done it years ago!

A second grater, peeler, vege knife and set of kitchen scissors - I did this so I don’t get annoyed when they’re in the dishwasher. £20 for the lot but has improved my life !

Three weeks unpaid leave to deep clean and declutter and sort out my mental health

I actually swooned at the thought of this.
Laser sharp focus, zero distractions and ruthless ability to throw things out would be a bonus, but I don't think Amazon sell them yet...

fandjango · 09/10/2024 20:24

A new headset that connects to my phone/ipad to listen to my audio books/watch programmes/talk to people. Wouldn't be without mine now as have a few issues with hands/arm/neck weakness and it's amazing for being able to chat/listen in a comfortable position for me. Mine is on its very last legs and on my Christmas list!

New, cordless vacuum

White Company Candle

Nice versatile coat

Long phone charger cable - handy! Because sometimes I can't be bothered to charge my phone overnight because I have to reach down for my short cabled one Grin

New phone case

Fancy electric toothbrush?

Enjoy OP!

Inspirationfailure · 09/10/2024 20:34

I would pay for a handyman to come in and sort out all the little jobs that have been put off for ages.
Would spend the rest on a deep clean every few months.

Franoll · 09/10/2024 20:38

Mini dishwasher
robot vacuum
and a decent knife set would be my buys!

CassandraWebb · 09/10/2024 20:39

The best thing I did buy recently with a windfall was an electric wheelchair.

I have a hugely fluctuating neurological condition so I can walk a bit but I had had to stop doing so many things (museums,. shopping, walks by the beach etc) and getting the wheelchair feels like getting my life back. It cost nearly £2000 (because I wanted a very lightweight one so my teenagers could lift it in and out of the car) but it has been worth every penny

the long phone charger cables are peanuts on amazon and I agree, lifechanging

Built in wardrobes.

ToBePerfectlyHonest · 09/10/2024 20:50

some of these are really dull but they definitely improve my life:

electric toothbrush

charging points for phones upstairs, downstairs and at the side of the bed

coffee maker - saves a lot long term as I bought a lot of coffee out (I still do, but less than I did)

nice pyjamas, slippers and socks for everyday

a watch with a good size face

quality hairbrush

quality towels

cordless vacuum cleaner

nice china

sending duvets to the launderette for a service wash at the end of each season

having something in flower in the garden as much as possible, especially by the front door

tumble dryer and dishwasher (probably £1000 for both)

the thing that makes the biggest difference to me though is having a cleaner

Rainbowqueeen · 09/10/2024 20:51

A session with a personal stylist

Someone to help me declutter my house

FrogSplash · 09/10/2024 20:57

I recently spent £500 on a course of six leg hair laser treatments. My sister had hers done eight years ago and hasn't needed to shave her legs since. I'm on session four and already my leg hair is minimal.

I know it's random but I am so happy not to be faffing with Nair or razors or trying to see whether I've got hair legs in the shower while I don't have my glasses on. It was an utterly decadent thing to spend money on but it's amazing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2024 21:10

Weirdly, the older I get, the fewer hairs I seem to have on my legs. They’re all on my chin instead!

Superworm24 · 09/10/2024 21:22

I've purchased a few bits over the years that I truly appreciate.

Decent coat, it was expensive but I love it and 4 years in it still looks new.

Good underwear. I don't know why I wasted so much money on rubbish knickers and bras in my 20s. I think I good bra can really improve your whole appearance and posture too.

Feather pillows. I had cheaper poly filled ones before. Splashed out on some expensive feather filled ones and I have far less headaches and back pain!

And following on from that, nice sheets.

Coffee machine. Added bonus is that it makes the house smell incredible.

Hedjwitch · 09/10/2024 21:46

Some good quality underwear
Laser moustache removal
Maybe a small tattoo

IWanderedLonely · 09/10/2024 21:50

Boots that keep my feet dry in the wettest weather.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 09/10/2024 21:51

A thermomix. It's more like £1400 but is such a great appliance

Itabsolutelyispossible · 09/10/2024 22:11

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Something like this?

https://www.lavenderhillclothing.com/products/threequartersleevescooptshirt

I'd get a load of big fluffy towels.

And really good knickers ( though I would have to find some first - haven't found ones I like yet).

Better swimwear than I currently have.

Someone to tidy/ weed the garden before winter.
