I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to invest a bit in some useful things.

I'm wondering about an air fryer. Would that be a good choice, would you say?

What else might be good?

So far I've got:
A really good new mixing bowl!!!!!
Possibly an air fryer
Possibly a new waterproof coat

A galaxy tab and a new pair of trainers

unsync · 09/10/2024 18:52

I would probably stick £500 in Premium Bonds just in case, but then I'm in my 50s, I've got everything I need and have started to go in the other direction and am divesting my life of stuff. Maybe use it to pay someone to do that for me?

CassandraWebb · 09/10/2024 18:55

I would pay someone to do the odd jobs around the house that I can't do (disability) and DH is oblivious to.

In fact I have already started doing that here and there and it feels like a great use of money

RosieFlamingo · 09/10/2024 18:56

Robot hoover. Would never be without mine now.

coffeesaveslives · 09/10/2024 18:58

Air fryer
Waterproof coat, hat and boots for work
A new mattress
Nespresso type coffee machine

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/10/2024 18:58

A decent pillow

Other than that, I agree with a few weeks leave to get loads of jobs done, then pay a cleaner for a super deep clean of my house.

trader21c · 09/10/2024 19:01

I’d spend the money on a return airfare to Alicante and a week in my favourite hotel near there …

This is actually what I've been doing - also in my 50s. I've got rid of loads of books and clothes etc, the storage in the house is better than it's ever been and because I'm not spending so much money on clothes and books I can potentially spend it on something else - but only if it will really make a difference!

Not in a position to take leave from work. Also, have no intention of cleaning. Vacuum cleaners hold no appeal to me - dp is in charge of all that!

A dishwasher and a better hairdryer (quieter and more efficient). Mine refuses to die and I feel I can’t justify a new one until it’s unavoidable.

About a hundred decent biros so I can stash them everywhere , I swear they evaporate.

FloozingThePlot · 09/10/2024 19:07

Good mattress and bedding
Tomato knives

Theoldwrinkley · 09/10/2024 19:08

I wouldn't waste on air fryer. I got caught by the hype. Either I'm thick (very likely) or it doesn't like me, but I can't get on with it.
With £1000 I'd get a mobility scooter to enable me to get out and about.

ballybooboo · 09/10/2024 19:10

Declutter/Cleaner and handy person.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 09/10/2024 19:12

New waterproof walking boots
iPad Mini

VeraYin · 09/10/2024 19:16

Dyson hairdryer. I bought one 5 years ago and never looked back - quicker and easier to dry, better hair with no fuss

HowAmYa · 09/10/2024 19:18

StealthMama · 09/10/2024 18:45

A freezer full of Cook ready meals.

I read this as 'freezer full of cock'.
I spat my wine out.

Anyhoo freezer full of meals sounds great 🤣

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2024 19:18

I've got a GHD hairdryer, which I like. I wouldn't give Mr Brexit Dyson a single penny of my hard-earned cash!

A very good mattress. Being a nurse and now pregnant has absolutely finished off my poor back!

Barbadossunset · 09/10/2024 19:22

A sock marriage guidance counsellor to stop dh’s socks from running away from their ohs.

Sethera · 09/10/2024 19:23

I'd replace my elderly mobile phone.

Octaviusoctober · 09/10/2024 19:24

Definitely air fryer here, it's so quick and nifty

TomatoSandwiches · 09/10/2024 19:25

Do robot vacuums work well on solid wood floors?

I caved and overcame my irrational fear of electric blankets/mattress sheets and honestly I'm kicking myself for not buying them sooner and has helped DD with her chilblains so much.

A heater/cooling fan from Dyson, they look handy.

A good goretex coat and boots.

Sunshineclouds11 · 09/10/2024 19:28

Yes to robot hover and air fryer!

I would get a deep clean done
New bedding
Lush dressing gown
Decent winter coat
Coffee machine

Snowdrops17 · 09/10/2024 19:28

Chillisintheair · 09/10/2024 18:18

Back lit mirror with demister and tooth brush charger.

I never knew there was such a thing ... now I must have it

TidyDancer · 09/10/2024 19:28

The air fryer I have has made such a difference to my life so I would definitely get one if you don't already have one! Mine is the ninja one with two drawers and it's much better and easier to use than the older circular ones.

I would probably stay on the kitchen theme and buy a really good set of knives and pots and pans too.

If there was money left over after that I would keep it for every day spending so I could treat myself guilt free to a nice lunch and random hot chocolates on winter mornings.
