Vinted - postage warning

It looks like Vinted have turned on the post office as a postage option for sellers. You can’t switch it off though.

FFS just checked and looks like you're right. Nightmare.

ViaRia01 · 06/10/2024 21:30

Sorry if I being dim but why is this an issue? Is it just that some people can’t easily get to a post office?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/10/2024 21:33

It's not an integrated option with Vinted. Unlike other postage options, Vinted doesn't track delivery and it takes up to a month to get the buyer's money.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/10/2024 21:38

Jeez, you're right! That's bad news.

I noticed at the bottom of postage settings it now has this sentence "Some shipping options are enabled for all sellers on our platform and can’t be turned off"

My nearest post office is a 14 mile round trip and the opposite way to work. I am fortunate that Evri and inpost is next to work so that’s my option. As another poster said you can’t track Royal Mail plus as a seller you need to pay for postage upfront whereas the other options are paid for by the buyer in advance.

I have gone on holiday mode.

Because there's no integrated tracking with Vinted so sellers are dependent on buyers clicking a box to say they've received it. And some sellers just can't be bothered (and some are dodgy). Which means a LONG wait to get paid.

For me personally this is also a nightmare as my local Post Office is horrendous. The queue is always outside and the wait to be served usually 45 mins or longer. And they have very restrictive opening hours which combined with the waiting time makes it impossible for me to post something unless I take a half day off work! I will stop selling if it means I have to use Royal Mail.

LifeAtForty · 06/10/2024 21:43

Another one on holiday mode as a result!

Pearmain · 06/10/2024 21:44

I’ve moved back to eBay

RosaBaby2 · 06/10/2024 21:50

Oh for fucks sake.

LargeJugs · 06/10/2024 21:53

Ugh. I literally can't get to a post office. There isn't one that works for my work hours. I only do Yodel because of the corner shop doing it.

EBay it is then.

TomatoSandwiches · 06/10/2024 21:57

I've gone back to Ebay but seems me, the seller has been paying for evri postage?!
Not sure how I've managed that tbh.

grannypants22 · 06/10/2024 21:57

I don't understand why they'd do this. Surely, as this thread demonstrates, it will be a big inconvenience to loads of sellers who will just stop using the platform.
What difference does it make to Vinted what postage options people use and why aren't you allowed to turn some ones off but others you can?
I guess all you can do is cancel any sales with a post office option. It'll give you bad feedback but you could message the buyer and explain the situation to see if they're able to select another option?

ViaRia01 · 06/10/2024 21:58

Wow that does all sound like a nightmare! Think it’s fine to have that as an option but only if it can be turned off like the others…

And how do you know how much to price an item if you don’t know in advance whether you or the buyer is paying for the postage?!

Everything0Everywhere · 06/10/2024 22:01

I'm thinking about adding a note to the description of my items saying "please do not select Post Office"

BovrilonToast · 06/10/2024 22:02

I’ve just added a note to the description asking buyers not to choose it…

pinkpetunias · 06/10/2024 22:02

I won’t be selling on Vinted anymore then! Paying up front for the postage and then not getting your money until a month later for both item and postage?! No thanks! EBay has just removed seller fees so guess I’ll be going back there…

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/10/2024 22:03

I've put myself on holiday. And will hope that Vinted see sense and change the settings back if enough sellers complain.

Clumsy12345 · 06/10/2024 22:04

Yes just add a note I’ve seen people do this in the past explaining to buyers not to select certain postage options

QueenCamilla · 06/10/2024 22:05

Sounds like Royal Mail have bought themselves a placement.

The question is, whether Vinted got big enough of a paycheck to cover the cost of business that they'll lose as a result.

Tisfortired · 06/10/2024 22:07

I had wondered why there had been a sudden spike of people requesting Royal Mail delivery!

It’s really annoying as I had 4 parcels to post via Royal Mail recently which meant stumping up around £14 to post them and I am still waiting for 2 of them to be marked as received by the buyer. I think I might also add a note saying I’d prefer Royal Mail wasn’t chosen.

Walkthelakes · 06/10/2024 22:08

I’m the opposite in that a post office comes to my village every week but it’s a twenty mile round trip for the others. If I couldn’t turn the others off it’d be a massive ball ache

babyproblems · 06/10/2024 22:09

Why would they do this unless Royal Mail have paid for it… seems likely.. and also why couldn’t they then still have an integrated tracking and paid upfront postage. Seems very odd to suddenly offer a postage option that disadvantages your sellers’ and has very different features to the ones you normally have. Makes no sense unless Royal Mail have paid big bucks. And why wouldn’t they make it an optional service like the others??

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 06/10/2024 22:09

Mine is stil turned off.

OdeToBarney · 06/10/2024 22:11

WTF! Why would they do this? Also on holiday mode until this shit show is sorted.

EBoo80 · 06/10/2024 22:11

Thanks for flagging. Mine has been turned on and all our post offices have closed plus the payment is a nightmare so I’ve put holiday mode on.
maybe the end for me and Vinted - I’ve mostly had a very positive time but their customer service is awful if things do go wrong
