If you get up for the loo in the night, do you turn the light on?

I saw a thing the other day about how mums will go to the loo in the night without turning the lights on either in the hallway or in the bathroom. I realised that I never turn any lights on, no babies to wake up or small children, I just don’t need it.

So is that a female thing? And adult thing? Or a parent thing?

What about you?

No, no need as I just know where the loo is

wildthingsinthenight · 04/10/2024 20:50

Never. It would wake me up

DNAwrangler · 04/10/2024 20:50

No light here …

FLOWER1982 · 04/10/2024 20:51

Nope

Tulip8 · 04/10/2024 20:51

No not unless I'm on my period. However I'd prefer DH to as he needs to aim!

Weepingwillows12 · 04/10/2024 20:51

Never turn the light on. Would wake me up and stop me going back to sleep for hours. Cant remember my husband turning it on either though so maybe it's an adult thing.

I take a mini torch with me. It's really dark where we live - no street lights so nothing other than the moon at night

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/10/2024 20:51

No way. My brain would think it was morning time.

TheGoddessMinerva · 04/10/2024 20:51

I take my phone. I don’t want dazzling light when I’m half asleep. I use the screen brightness to make sure I don’t trip over anything, or stand in anything the cat may have slaughtered.

Fromage · 04/10/2024 20:52

I switch the light on in the bathroom, but none on the way there.

Basically, I can stumble half asleep leaning on a wall to guide me, but once there, I can't be trusted not to wee in the laundry basket.

thebigL · 04/10/2024 20:52

Not a male vs. female thing as far as I know. I don't turn it on but neither does DH.

HippyShopper · 04/10/2024 20:52

Light on here ! I’d walk into a wall if I didn’t turn the light on as I’m usually still half asleep !! 😴

HeidiBlum · 04/10/2024 20:52

We have a PIR light on the landing but the street light is sufficient. In hotels we use our phone torchlights.

No street lights here after 11.30 either.

Dimmer switch here which is always on at night. Mainly for DD.

LesValseuses · 04/10/2024 20:54

Noooo. The house belongs to the big spiders at night, what I don’t see can’t scare me.

Last hotel we stayed in it was pitch black at night. We both got up to go to the loo and walked into things. Neither of us thought to use our phones!

No lights here either.

NeverAloneNeverAgain · 04/10/2024 20:55

Light on here - DH and 3 older DSs mean sometimes it's best to be able to see what you potentially may sit in 🫣

Overtheatlantic · 04/10/2024 20:56

I use my phone torch

NunyaBeeswax · 04/10/2024 20:56

No. I have a torch though. A little one.
I stood on a plug when I was about 19/20 and I've had a torch by my bed every night since.
I update it every now and then. Right now it's an Olight Baton 4 that has a little case it lives in. I love it.

Mum2jenny · 04/10/2024 20:57

For hotels, I take a sensor light and place it so it comes on when we get out of the bed. A second light is useful to place in the en-suite

thebigL · 04/10/2024 20:57

It's not pitch black here and we have a huuuuuge window in the hallway so we do get some light.

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 20:59

No.

I often go and check on my horse at 10/11 o clock at night, across a field and up to the stables. I take a torch in my pocket but rarely use it. I can see really well at night!

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 04/10/2024 20:59

No, only insane people put the BIG LIGHT on at any point, ever.
