How often do you have dessert after meals?

Was talking to a colleague today who said she makes homemade desserts for the family to have after dinner every evening.

This got me thinking.. and I only really do this if entertaining or if I bake over the weekend for fun. Usually we would just have a few squares of chocolate or something to follow lunch or dinner if we fancied it. I rarely buy desserts that are premade really.

Just wondered what other people do, how often do you have dessert?

On Sundays typically but never home made!

Never make dessert, it's unnecessary.

Finish a meal with fruit/yoghurt/ice cream/cheese if still hungry.

I'm intrigued though that your colleague works full time then goes home and makes home made dinner and dessert for the family in the evening😀are you sure she's not embellishing that?

Only if I'm eating out. I never have dessert at home

I work full time and make home made dinner, it's not an impossibility. Doesn't have to take hours!

DustyMaiden · 26/09/2024 15:33

Sunday only, always home made . Make healthier recipes because of. Cholesterol.

CrunchyCarrot · 26/09/2024 15:34

Never. As a child/teen there was always a pudding to follow our main meal. Somewhere along the way that was lost and honestly I couldn't actually eat a pudding as well!

artictern · 26/09/2024 15:35

Occasionally I’ll have a small ice cream sandwich (they have really done the shrinkflation number on these!) but my dessert these days is always a piece of fruit. Usually a tangerine. 🍊

Every day

BigBoysDontCry · 26/09/2024 15:38

We have "dessert" every day. But that's usually fresh or defrosted berries with plain Greek yoghurt. We might have a sprinkle of granola on that and maybe a little bit of dark chocolate after. I don't eat sugary type dessert at all, but adult DS might have a bit of cake/biscuit/chocolate later on for a supper. Or he might equally have toast or soup or cheese and crackers as the mood takes him.

Each to their own though. We never had daily dessert growing up but did eat far too many biscuits (dad worked in a biscuit factory). My body no longer tolerates sugar.

Lafondah · 26/09/2024 15:41

You got to have your sweet every day!

LimeSqueezy · 26/09/2024 15:42

We always have cut fruit for dessert. Very occasionally the kids will have a fruit jelly. I'll only make a proper pudding for Christmas or birthdays. We have sweet snacks at other times of the day though like the kids will have an ice cream or cookie after school and I always like some chocolate before bed.

ShortyWentLow · 26/09/2024 15:44

I pretty much never have afters. Occasionally in a restaurant, but I'm more of a starter person.

Livinginaclock · 26/09/2024 15:44

Very, very rarely.
I may have yoghurt or fruit later in the evening, but even then, I'm more likely to have cheese and biscuits.
I don't have a sweet tooth at all.

I always have starter main and pud

Turnitoffnonagain · 26/09/2024 15:45

Rarely. Birthdays and Christmas, sometimes if eating out. Trying to control the middle age "spread".

Salmon with a marinade, rice and veg. Half an hour tops!

Lupin61 · 26/09/2024 15:48

Always have a yogurt after my evening meal but occasionally swap that for something like a Gu dessert or some ice cream or a homemade crumble. Probably once a week

Growlybear83 · 26/09/2024 15:48

I cook every night after I finish work - we always have starter and usually a pudding after our evening meal. It varies between shop bought and home made, but I'm very partial to the little Gu jars.

AzureSheep · 26/09/2024 15:48

DH and DD would have dessert after every meal if they could get away with it 😂. If we eat out, they’ll both have dessert. I don’t have a sweet tooth so would either have a starter first, or just a main (especially if it’s a Sunday roast), or a cheeseboard, or something like an affogato.

DD might have a bit of ice cream or a biscuit after dinner, and fruit is always offered / available.

PIL always have dessert after lunch and dinner, my DP almost never have it.

Peonies12 · 26/09/2024 15:54

That’s so unhealthy! Can’t believe anyone would think that’s healthy. We have yoghurt or fruit, only have a dessert when eating out

Ah, live a little. People are allowed a treat!

Ugh... dessert...not at all.
