I'll start.

Toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes - just a bit of plastic!

Reprogramming keys for cars (why does it cost £100s)

Both of those.

Also: dishwasher tablets. They’re just detergent and salt, surely? Why the hefty price?

And printer ink. Why is it so obscenely expensive? Is it made with powdered gold?

TickingAlongNicely · 25/09/2024 21:18

Pringles.

rosyandjimm · 25/09/2024 21:19

Razors!

SocksTalk · 25/09/2024 21:19

OP, we have switched to compatible electric toothbrush heads which cost a fraction of the price and seems to do the same job.

Pet insurance
Train fares

Autumnweddingguest · 25/09/2024 21:21

Lampshades! I'm trying to find a replacement for one that fell apart recently. £25 for the most boring beige bit of wire and paper faux linen. Anything even vaguely interesting starts at about £45. Anything I actually like starts at £70.

GertieN · 25/09/2024 21:21

gift wrapping paper

Pootles34 · 25/09/2024 21:22

Yes to razors and printer ink!

However pet insurance is that expensive because so many people have really expensive operations and medications for their pets - when we were kids they were just put down.

Lorelaigilmore88 · 25/09/2024 21:22

All of the above plus Lurpak and also branded cereals. Big box of kelloggs honey nut flakes now over £4 wtf.

Also concert tickets seem to require you to remortgage your house these days.

Insanely cheap items is also fun! Big bottle of Vaseline moisturiser, costs a few quid, lasts me a year!

TiramisuThief · 25/09/2024 21:30

Agree about lampshades

Bought a new build a year ago, got a job lot of those cheap white ones from IKEA for 'the meantime' to avoid a million bare bulbs

We're still going to have them when we move out aren't we?

IrisApfel · 25/09/2024 21:32

The big, ugly trainers my 14 year old likes

Sky TV

Iced tea at places like Costa and Starbucks

Lego

Theredjellybean · 25/09/2024 21:33

ArcticBells · 25/09/2024 21:33

even used on eBay? Can’t make one yourself?

Sepoctnov · 25/09/2024 21:34

Yes lampshades. I've got some cheap white "linen" ones from Dunelm. They do the job and honestly can't distinguish them from the ones that are upwards of £25.

Takeaway coffee. In fact anything from a coffee shop is hideously overpriced.
