I'll start.

Toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes - just a bit of plastic!

Reprogramming keys for cars (why does it cost £100s)

Artichokes, the ones in jars, most are about £5 for such a small amount. I miss them.

All of the above plus Lurpak and also branded cereals. Big box of kelloggs honey nut flakes now over £4 wtf.

Also concert tickets seem to require you to remortgage your house these days.

The pilot, on my flight back from Turkey, earlier this week "Free flights for anyone that will swap for Oasis concert tickets".

Gluten free food is ridiculously expensive. I know there are manufacturers costs, not large scale production (relatively) etc but come on. Nearly £4 for a dinky little loaf of dry bread. Over £3 for a brand name pringles dupe that only comes in one flavour (ready salted) - Lidl I will hold a long grudge against you for putting wheat in your bargain own make pringles recently.

Olive oil. It literally grows on fucking trees.

Absolutely!

SnobblyBobbly · 25/09/2024 22:22

Another one for Olive Oil. When? Why did it get so expensive?!

I used it for everything before and now I have a very small secret bottle for my 'best' salads 😆 Sad but true.

TheGreatIndoors · 25/09/2024 22:22

My tip (as a 41 year old with no fillings)...don't change your electric toothbrush head every 3 months as stated on the packet. Don't brush too hard with it (splayed bristles mean you're probably pressing too hard and damaging your gums). Just stick it in the dishwasher once a month and it will last a good 6-12 months.

autumnbake · 25/09/2024 22:22

Yes to lampshades!! Why on earth are they so expensive?!

Vet bills. Dog cost us £1500 this month for surgery (insurance wouldnt cover it), actual surgery was only £900 but they added a lot of ‘extras’ on top which wasn’t great. Took my hamster and it cost me £50 for some antibiotics… 🤔

Hotel chocolat have also put their prices up recently. I like some of their flavours but won’t be spending £30 for a box of chocs sorry.

thebear1 · 25/09/2024 22:22

Salmon and prawns, seems to be more expensive than before.

TheGreatIndoors · 25/09/2024 22:22

Yeah, fucking £20 for a box of 6 champagne truffles. Should be £10 max!

TheGreatIndoors · 25/09/2024 22:23

@SocksTalk @HopelesslyOptimistic meant to tag you in post above about toothbrushes.

I came on to say this! Even the non-extra-virgin stuff is ridiculous price suddenly

Normallynumb · 25/09/2024 22:24

I was going to say olive oil too!

I love artichokes. This might not help, but you can get frozen ones from Ocado. When I lived in London I bought frozen ones from the Greek deli.

strangeandfamiliar · 25/09/2024 22:25

Those roof boxes for the car. We looked at getting one once and I naively thought it would be about £50. I was staggered to see they were several hundred pounds - and this was quite a few years ago.

GoldieLocks09 · 25/09/2024 22:27

Baby formula that legally isn’t allowed to be discounted (stage 1), branded sauces (Heinz ketchuo, Perinaise, etc) and olive oil - I genuinely can’t bare to buy a new bottle right now the amount it costs!

the ‘brand name’ versions of pasta, milk or rice. Or flour and sugar. I buy all the staples from Aldi but I don’t understand why staples at the supermarket like brand name sugar is twice as much. And who is buying them? It’s literally just sugar. And the supermarket brand one is right there at half the price.

I buy Tate & Lyle when I make jam because it’s proper cane sugar and the set is better. Most of the supermarket own brand sugar in the UK is made from sugar beet & the set is inferior. I buy bog standard sugar for everything else though.

Anything to eat/drink in a cinema. Counter productive for me as I simply won’t buy anything.

Vitamins for kids. Apparently am meant to give her vit D daily until she’s 5. She’s currently 3 and it’s £10/month off Amazon. £120/yr for sunlight in a bottle, someone is on a superyacht somewhere laughing

You can get the little bottles of vit c, a & d from some children’s centres. Mine sells it for £2 a bottle and it lasts for 2-3 months. Maybe see if you have one near by and if they offer?

I now buy my cereals out of Aldi and my 2dc happily eat them as does dh and he's usually a brand snob
