I'll start.

Toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes - just a bit of plastic!

Reprogramming keys for cars (why does it cost £100s)

Glasses frames. It's just moulded plastic. Factories have found ways of mass producing plastic tut in every conceivable shape and selling it in Poundland for a few quid. But plastic glasses frames have a £100 price tag....

Lorelaigilmore88 · 25/09/2024 21:49

Also tuna. John west is so much nore expensive than a tin of supermarket own brand. Why? Are they special tuna?! Tuna with qualifications.

Conniethecatapillar · 25/09/2024 21:49

Those food recycling bags, they want us to recycle but then charge the earth to do so. Bloody idiots.

Neveranynamesleft · 25/09/2024 21:52

To be fair, I don't grumble about the price of stamps but I dont buy them very often. If someone said they'd give me £1.50 (or whatever it costs) to take a letter to the opposite end of the country I'd tell them to get lost !

AntiStars · 25/09/2024 21:53

Vitamins for kids. Apparently am meant to give her vit D daily until she’s 5. She’s currently 3 and it’s £10/month off Amazon. £120/yr for sunlight in a bottle, someone is on a superyacht somewhere laughing

Birthday cards. Why are packets of Christmas cards so much cheaper?

Don’t you know about Whistlefish?

Selectspecs could be your answer. You can get frames for a cheap as £6 made to your prescription. I'm always leaving my reading glasses in restaurants and cocktail bars so I've had dozens from here...

Agree about lampshades

Bought a new build a year ago, got a job lot of those cheap white ones from IKEA for 'the meantime' to avoid a million bare bulbs

We're still going to have them when we move out aren't we?

After nearly 20 years in my then-new build I can confirm this will in all likelihood be the case. On the positive side, the IKEA lampshades were built to last!

Stanley cups
Bubble tea
Washing powder

I second that re: bubble tea.

FluffBomb · 25/09/2024 21:55

Sherwoods Mango Chutney, Kitchen Roll and a large glass of NZ Sav Blanc in a bar.

there is a difference with tuna where it is caught and also how it’s caught.

I only buy pole and line caught tuna, as the other method (written as purse seine or something like that) is using a big net and often catches and kills many other sea animals like dolphins by accident.

M&S Tuna Chunks 99p a tin. Stopped buying John West and Princes

AskMeTomorrow · 25/09/2024 21:57

Heinz ketchup.
DCs get through buckets of the stuff and are not fooled by any cheaper substitutes!

Comfy shoes - hotter, Clarks, skechers and the like

MillshakePickle · 25/09/2024 21:59

Disneyland Paris - circa 2k for 4 nights, 2 adults and 2 kids and that's before food or spending money.

Train fares, especially when you have the added pleasure of standing the whole way

Pointless as above...I mean wtaf happened there?

Apples - 2 quid for 4!!!

Anything baby related

Nannylovesshopping · 25/09/2024 22:01

My all time grievance, Vet bills, today, £24 to write a prescription!

Radiog · 25/09/2024 22:01

Yes to the poster that suggested cheap as chips Vaseline intensive care cream. I knew a hand model that swore by it. They actually decided to put the price up as it was perceived to be too cheap, therefore rubbish.

care homes! One of the carers suggested I book mum on a cruise, with me, for far less, and there’s a doctor on board. Hmmm!

ChishiyaBat · 25/09/2024 22:02

Omeprazole, £3.99 for a generic version that lasts 3-6days, the Dr won't prescribe it, so some(most) months when I am really broke I just have to suffer with the pain, trouble swallowing and reflux.

Charlize43 · 25/09/2024 21:48

Postage Stamps!

It cost me more than the Birthday Card to send a card to France.

I wish I'd tucked the Christmas cards in when I sent a couple of birthday cards recently, couldn't believe the cost of stamps!

GoldenLegend · 25/09/2024 22:04

Pet insurance. Mine went up by 150% this year.

I cancelled it and got a cheaper deal.

GreatNorthBun · 25/09/2024 22:05

@BunfightBetty you don't need to buy those tablets. The old cheap dishwasher powder works just as well, maybe better.

Echobelly · 25/09/2024 22:06

Train fares are nuts - we might holiday in Scotland next summer and I'd like to travel there and back by train but I'm betting train fares, even well in advance, will be ludicrously more than budget flights. I suspect we'll do one way by train and the other with a flight.

Nagatha · 25/09/2024 22:06

Antiperspirant
