Toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes - just a bit of plastic!

Reprogramming keys for cars (why does it cost £100s)

Lamb

I can answer this. Sheep cannot be farmed intensively, they don't do well in buildings as they tend to get respiratory illnesses if kept inside. They also like to find ways to kill themselves or kill their own offspring. They are very labour intensive animals.
The price has recently gone up again, and will likely continue to rise,as the breeders of North Country Mules,in areas such as the Lake District are being encouraged to de stock, due to Green / rewinding policies,so there is a shortage of ewes appearing for sale. This will have a knock on effect,as there is a huge demand for lamb/ hoggett, but there will be less livestock to breed from.
The way agriculture is being de valued and farmers being encouraged to not grow food, the general public can expect other foodstuffs to rise in consequence.

Bins! One of those 2 part recycling bins costs over £100!?! It's just plastic!

Everything in Dubrovnik old town. Beer is 4 times more expensive than Split or Omis, That’s where I drank beer too. Game of Thrones merch £30 for a tankard, £7.50 online in UK.

Then I mentioned to a fellow tour member about walking on the town walls. Other cities I have been to - UK and abroad are free or a few quid. I knew I paid about £25.80 in 2017. Now it’s €35 (£29.30).

Baking a cake. The cost of flour, sugar, eggs and , and butter, etc, soon mounts up.

Vet bills. Dog cost us £1500 this month for surgery (insurance wouldnt cover it), actual surgery was only £900 but they added a lot of ‘extras’ on top which wasn’t great. Took my hamster and it cost me £50 for some antibiotics… 🤔

Very much this. I would love to offer a home to a rescue pet but I just can't afford either the insurance or the bills. I'm so sad about it.

A couple of posters mentioned perfume,

Try Perfume Parlour or Essence Vault. Huge range of scents; a radio consumer programme did a feature on them and concluded they were excellent.

my stepdad makes cakes for weddings, birthdays etc. some people are surprised how much they cost until he breaks down the ingredients cost alone, then tells them how long they take to decorate.
he makes amazing cakes, and I'm no cake fan. when he took redundancy from Royal Mail, they had a thing where they would pay for certain courses to help people find other work.
he chose a cake decorating course that is with a well respected cake maker in Scotland, as he already made delicious cakes, but decorating was pretty basic.
the amount of work that goes into them is incredible, and that's before the materials cost.

your basic victoria sponge at home, not too bad, but probably still often cheaper to buy a basic one from a supermarket. but anything even a bit fancier, mass produced gives NO reflection on the cost of having it commissioned, made from scratch and beautifully decorated by hand.

Thevelvelletes · 29/10/2024 06:15

I've recently started baking which I'm enjoying basic stuff, rock cakes, apple, cinnamon loaf I like the fact I've perhaps used 5 ingredients unlike shop bought having loads.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 29/10/2024 06:22

Dish washer tablets.

Thevelvelletes · 29/10/2024 06:45

Toilet roll... bloody tiny rolls now.
The shrinkflation on them is taking the piss.

Cornercandy · 29/10/2024 07:48

@Thevelvelletes branded loo roll is a waste of money. I bought 24 rolls from Lidl for about £6.45.

Andrex Quilted in some supermarkets when not on offer can be that price for 9!!

Thevelvelletes · 29/10/2024 10:23

Oh I don't buy Andrex.. Switched to ASDA own plus we get 10% discount because of dw working there

Daschund · 29/10/2024 11:12

I know this will already have been posted but Birthday Cards, especially the likes of Moonpig that don't even have the overheads of shop and charge you for the postage.

Cornercandy · 29/10/2024 13:06

Companies that charge a card fee when you can only pay by card! What's that all about?

Summertimer · 29/10/2024 21:52
