We’ve just opened our front door to a load of maggots. They have dropped in into our hall way, there is an infestation on the front lawn and there’s no reason why!! There’s no food in that area and they literally just appeared cos it’s raining. Why!!

A dead animal? Mouse? Rat? Fox poo? Or another animal poo?

It’s been warm recently which I don’t think helps. Hopefully it will go as the weather cools down. In the meantime, pour boiling water on them.

menopausalmare · 22/09/2024 21:51

Has a fox carried a bag of food waste across your lawn? Foxes are very busy on bin days and are masters at removing compost bags from caddies

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 21:53

Nope. None of the above. There is nothing there and we’ve looked. They have just appeared. Dh is cleaning them all up now. Yucky things

Nooooo we don't 😆

comedycentral · 22/09/2024 21:56

Do you have a ring doorbell camera? I also think an animal has passed by or flown by with a rotting dead animal and they've fallen out.

WrigglyDonCat · 22/09/2024 21:57

I just want to know if they knocked or rang the bell? I mean OP opened the door to them, so I assume they somehow managed to make their presence known?

Cryingatthegym · 22/09/2024 22:00

This sounds like the start of a Buffy episode. Good luck.

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:04

It’s dark other wise I would. Dh is freaking out. He hates maggots. Just been out the from and there’s millions all across the street!!! They are not as far as the rubbish square (we live on an estate and there’s a specific area for the rubbish) but they are still all around the houses. And I mean millions. Dh is now concerned there’s something dead somewhere

Well that sounds like a horror film!

Istilldontlikeolives · 22/09/2024 22:08

We definitely need a photo.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 22/09/2024 22:09

Photo or it didn't happen!

ProfessorInkling · 22/09/2024 22:10

Millions? Like from a horror film?

LostittoBostik · 22/09/2024 22:10

I would report to the council on social media if they're everywhere. Deffo sounds like a dead fox or something is causing a massive problem

Flashcardsagain · 22/09/2024 22:10

Have you seen all your neighbours recently?

Goinggreymammy · 22/09/2024 22:11

Are you 100%sure they are maggots though?. Maggots don't usually crawl around the ground, no? They would be very near their food source.

LittleGreenDragons · 22/09/2024 22:12

😱

Frozenberries · 22/09/2024 22:12

I also want to see a photo of the millions of maggots. It sounds very horror film like

TeaButInAPot · 22/09/2024 22:12

Are you sure they're maggots? Maybe leatherjacket larvae? It's about the right time of year for them, I think.

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:13

Definitely maggots. Yes we’ve seen the neighbours but we a detached house. I’m not getting out of bed for a photo though I get you’re all curious.

It’s chucking it down and dh has whipped him self up into a frenzy maggot fighting. He will win. If they are still about in the morning, I will take lots of pictures not only for you, but for the council too

Yes, I was going to say leatherjacket (daddy long-legs) grubs. They can infest lawns.

DickEmery · 22/09/2024 22:15

All across the street?

This is Maggot Mania.

Oh it’s definitely maggots. I just googled your leather jackets and no it’s definitely maggots. They are small, wriggly and bright white.

I do wonder if maybe the “pond” might be at fault…

We are living on a new estate that’s still being built. There will be a huge pond opposite my house when it’s fully built. As it stands there is the odd puddle in it, and has been like it for weeks. The water is probably stagnant as well.
