We’ve just opened our front door to a load of maggots. They have dropped in into our hall way, there is an infestation on the front lawn and there’s no reason why!! There’s no food in that area and they literally just appeared cos it’s raining. Why!!

He isn't spreading bleach outside is he? It's terrible for aquatic and wildlife. Kettle water if he must.

Exactly.

What with that and the salt and bleach! People are v. strange and not very logical.

No. Just in the house

Then best of luck to you!

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 22/09/2024 22:34

Is your husband OK OP? Hoovering maggots, bleaching the front lawn - this is about the time I'd usually tell my own husband to "just stop having ideas for five minutes"....

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 22/09/2024 22:34

Do you have any pranksters/someone with a grudge nearby?

I had a job lot of maggots thrown through my boat window (into the kitchen!) once when a fishing man took objection to me floating past (very slowly) and used his fishing catapult to bung a cricket ball sized bundle of maggots my way.
Disgusting. 🤢 To be fair, his aim was excellent. 🤣
I wouldn't mind but the only reason the canal isn't choked with weeds and impossible to fish, is if boats navigate the water and keep it from getting clogged (because it isn't a natural water course so if the boats go, so does clear water and then... No fishing can happen. 🙄 Idiot man.

Maybe you have a disgruntled person with access to fishing maggots expressing their dislike of something?

Have you seen all your neighbours recently?

😁

OriginalUsername2 · 22/09/2024 22:34

You’re not the only ones, we had a huge sudden infestation on the kitchen floor last night - an army of them! Just spotted a couple so more coming I’m guessing. Anyone got tips other than sweeping them and trying not to cry?

I thought that too. 😁

GingerPirate · 22/09/2024 22:35

Funny. Not funny ha ha, but why so many maggots?
Is there a dead horse in the street or something??
And as a PP said, why hoover them up?
That hoover will be FUBAR (and stinky).
Bloody hell 😫

user14541775 · 22/09/2024 22:35

You need to hire like 500 robins or something to come and eat them

Have you tried the vacuum?

Grin

not quite. He’s armed himself with salt and bleach

You're in bed and your poor DH is out in the rain fighting millions of maggots with salt and bleach?

NCagainandagainandagain · 22/09/2024 22:38

Am gonna have maggot nightmares tonight and OP ,the hoover would have to go to tip !! Feel sooo sorry for you X

Scentedjasmin · 22/09/2024 22:35

I don’t think I could - I’d have to throw the vacuum out! They are the only things my body is genuinely scared of.

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:40

Dh has gone out to get photos for you curious people

And yes. I’m disabled. Kinda hard for me to get around especially at the moment. I’ve been having a couple of really bad pain days where I can’t even manage the stairs

Has there been food waste from binbags left in the street? They often get ripped open by gulls which attracts flies and they lay eggs. There was a man a few streets from me always moaning the binmen never picked up the rubbish that fell in the road when they emptied his bin. He had basically been emptying loose rubbish no bin bag from his kitchen bin into his wheelie bin. So obviously there was always some rubbish that would miss the wagon.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 22/09/2024 22:42

Did you refuse a bowl of sugar or pint of milk to a neighbour who wanted to borrow one? Did they look askance at you as they left? Mutter when walking past your property?

No. There is a square roped off not far down the road where all the rubbish goes for the bin man to collect. The maggots aren’t around there at all

They are concentrated around your manhole cover, I'd be checking your drains for a corpse of something

Edited

We are a dead end. The last house of the road.

You will be able to walk by when the builders have all stopped but for now there is a big metal barricade
