What the fuck?!!! Maggots

We’ve just opened our front door to a load of maggots. They have dropped in into our hall way, there is an infestation on the front lawn and there’s no reason why!! There’s no food in that area and they literally just appeared cos it’s raining. Why!!

We had exactly the same about 30 years ago. We never found any explanation for how they had got there - no evidence of anything dead or rubbish having been dragged across the garden by a fox. It was like a sea of maggots just outside the door and as fast as my husband was clearing them up, more of them were moving across the threshold and starting to come into the kitchen. He ended up killing them with a blowtorch.

Taytoface · 22/09/2024 23:06

I would make sure your brasses are clean, cos your front door is soooo ending up on the front of the Daily Mail. I reckon they will find a way to blame the labour party

Frozenberries · 22/09/2024 23:08

Oh wow, the pictures are even worse than I thought! Poor you OP, that is so stressful.

xxxndbm · 22/09/2024 23:12

Omg

HelenFi · 22/09/2024 23:14

Blocked waste pipe perhaps. New build site, so likely to have issues with rubble being thrown down the drains!

Renamed · 22/09/2024 23:14

Some kind of freak weather event? Like when it rains goldfish?

LonginesPrime · 22/09/2024 23:14

Your street will look like Hitchcock's The Birds come morning...

And I dread to think what's going on in your hoover overnight - I assume it's been left outside?

Is that drain connected to the unfinished sewage system for the estate by any chance? Perhaps someone forgot to block off a pipe and something crawled in there and died. But I would be extra nice to your neighbours whose drain that is too, just in case...

This sounds like the start of a Buffy episode. Good luck.

I was going with the start of a CSI: Vegas episode. From what I remember it had something to do with a deep frozen body and a wood chipper. 😁

You need to hire like 500 robins or something to come and eat them

Have you any idea what that would cost? On a Sunday night too! The op would be ruined.

This has brought back horrible memories of the time we went on holiday for a weekend and forgot to take the food waste from the caddy in the kitchen to the bin outside. There had been some salmon in there and tbh I still shudder at the thought of the sheer amount of maggots I found when we got back. They spread right over the kitchen as they all fell out the bag when I tried to lift it. I tried to sweep them up but they curled themselves up and it got even harder to move them as they got stuck in the brush. It was horrendous. I can't go away without triple checking we've emptied the caddy now though.

Alwayschangingthings · 22/09/2024 23:26

Oh holy fuck at your pictures op. Yea I would say millions! I would totally selotape or masking tape the from door tonight!

lanthanum · 22/09/2024 23:27

There are reports of similar today on our village Facebook page (not on a new estate). Something weird about the climate conditions?

Excellent post 😄

Shallana · 22/09/2024 23:29

We hsd this last year OP, it was horrifying! Every night our patio would be absolutely covered in them. We never got to the bottom of where they were coming from, I tried everything to kill them but more would appear each night. This went on for a few weeks and then they just started disappearing.

Had a few this summer but not nearly as bad, still freaks me out thinking about it.

Pickledeverything · 22/09/2024 23:31

Are you in the new built estate beginning with s by any chance?!

Addalittlespice · 22/09/2024 23:31

Had them outside mine last week. Used salt boiling water and bleach and it did nothing. Poor loads of bleach by your front door to stop them coming in. Apart from that, not much else you can do but wait for them to go.

Noodlehen · 22/09/2024 23:39

Omg what the hell, those pictures are the thing of nightmares

Wasywasydoodah · 22/09/2024 23:40

I was going to say barricade yourself in. Can you block off the front door so they can’t get in?

TequilaNights · 22/09/2024 23:42

Crawled out the rubbish bin?

SqueezeItOut · 22/09/2024 23:46

Please tell me your new build estate isn’t just outside Sheffield? <peers nervously out the window>

Notherefortheclout · 22/09/2024 23:50

How very strange. I came across an almost identical post to this a few weeks ago on here and the lady has them in her hall way too they were all under her door mat.

keeponandonandon · 22/09/2024 23:51

I had this a few years ago, initially I thought it was a disgruntled neighbour but the same thing happened a year later but nothing since, I never found out the cause but it was awful as they were coming in the house, i bleached and boiled them and I suspect birds ate the rest of them as they were only there a day or so.

HollyKnight · 23/09/2024 00:08

Make sure he doesn't throw bleach around outside. Birds and other critters will work on gobbling them tomorrow. Don't poison them.

MrsSunshine2b · 23/09/2024 00:17

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:31

That’s them!!!

Raining maggots? That's like some biblical shit.

Thistooshallpass24 · 23/09/2024 00:33

Why did I open this thread?! I thought you were exaggerating, I now wish you were!
