What the fuck?!!! Maggots

We’ve just opened our front door to a load of maggots. They have dropped in into our hall way, there is an infestation on the front lawn and there’s no reason why!! There’s no food in that area and they literally just appeared cos it’s raining. Why!!

They are concentrated around your manhole cover, I'd be checking your drains for a corpse of something

Good idea. Only it’s not the manhole cover on my side of the drive….its on the neighbours

Is a nice helpful serial killer neighbour about to be exposed

I'd go and check your neighbour isn't stiff down his manhole then

I have the same issue but suspect it’s my bins. DH is out and I’ve already tried hot water and salt and vinegar but they won’t disappear. Hoping they’re gone in the morning otherwise I may cry if I have to leave the house with them. crawling everywhere 😥

I’m so sorry, I’ve just laughed out loud at your well-seasoned maggots!

You need to hire like 500 robins or something to come and eat them

This is hilarious, but actually genius too. I have a few chickens and these would be gone in five minutes if I brought them round.

Know anyone with chickens who could put them in a pet carrier/box and visit?

My hens would be delighted if I told them they were going to a fancy restaurant to eat out and they got that banquet. 😁😁😁

That's disgusting, kill them all ..looks around nervously for maggots plotting a revenge attack.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 22/09/2024 22:49

I love the bit where the kid runs in screaming and the mum tells him not to be so stupid, then sees the maggot hordes for herself!

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 22/09/2024 22:49

Yes if anyone rescues chickens or hedgehogs they might come collect, seriously?

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 22/09/2024 22:49

You live in a new estate you say?

Is it built on an ex-landfill site by any chance?

oakleaffy · 22/09/2024 22:50

That's hideous- I had no idea that they could live in damp conditions or standing water.

Gross.

I know they do a good job clearing carcases and rendering them into clean bone, but I find them horrible.

People use them for fishing sometimes, and they are expensive to buy.

IfOnlyTheyWent · 22/09/2024 22:50

Sorry OP I wanted to post this Shock
You and your poor OP.
Are any other neighbours out or just your DH? Mind you, in this case ignorance really would be bliss.

CountAdhemar · 22/09/2024 22:50

Will we get the big reveal of photographs of the manhole cover being lifted?

Stay tuned to find out...

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:51

I’m tucking up now and leaving dh to his battle. I’ll let you know in the morning if he has remained human or joined the maggot hoard and is roaming around to the next house ready to invade the country

Yes, I'd scream too! 🫣
It's a primeval thing, to be repelled by maggots and worms {not earthworms though}

Today on a rainy humid warmish walk I saw lots of long brown slugs.

Probably about 7cms long.

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 22:26

Well yes I get that, and I also know flies are important for the nature system, doesn’t mean I want them in my house!!

Fair dues op, looking at the pics that is quite some infestation. Hot water or borrowing a load of chickens will do it.

My money is on something under that manhole!

Onlyonekenobe · 22/09/2024 22:55

Are you in Wales by any chance?

There was a piece in the paper earlier in the week about a small town there that was inundated with flies. So badly, apparently, that some people have had to move out of the town (was it a village?). Where there are flies, there were maggots. Maybe maggots = flies = more maggots =......more flies?

Gcsunnyside23 · 22/09/2024 22:55

I would die 🤮

Sweet dreams everyone! God, this is the stuff of nightmares 😳😱

NorthWestWise · 22/09/2024 23:03

Oh good god you weren’t exaggerating!

I had a dozen in my bin a couple of weeks ago, that was bad enough (actually bin day tomorrow - thanks for the reminder).

I agree the manhole looks like it might be the culprit. 🤢
