Please settle a debate 😀

I always do ours with baked beans for the kids and sketti hoops for me (none bb eater)

My mate has hers with bread and butter 😱

I did a veggie one of Friday and we had green beans and cabbage with ours.

FranticFrankie · 22/09/2024 11:21

Carrots always- peas occasionally. Grated cheese on top- yum
Might try putting baked beans in next time I do it @mynameiscalypso 👍🏼

My mum used to put baked beans in the cottage pie itself. Delicious.

We normally have greens though; peas, sautéed kale, broccoli or something like that. And tomato ketchup.

I don't really understand the bread and butter thing. How do you eat it with the cottage pie? And why? What does it add? It's intriguing!

You make sandwiches or baps with the cottage pie, often with tomato sauce.

Veg of some sort. Usually peas and/or carrots. Nom a nom.

This very same thread came up the other day except it was about Shepherds Pie

What is this?

Similar dish but with lamb instead of beef. I make it with the lamb slow cooked in red wine and rosemary.

Crinkle77 · 22/09/2024 11:25

Pickled beetroot and some nice crusty bread too. Double carbs!!!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 22/09/2024 11:25

Bit of veg like broccoli

mynameiscalypso · 22/09/2024 11:28

@AutumnCrow That is a revelation!

BCBird · 22/09/2024 11:30

Hefty portion of cabbage

Survivingnotthriving24 · 22/09/2024 11:37

Onion, carrot, celery and peas in it and broccoli and green beans on the side.
The thought if baked beans with it sounds vile, spaghetti hoops are an abomination in any circumstances 🤮

HurdyGurdy19 · 22/09/2024 11:48

I put beans in the pie. I started doing that to bulk out the meat, but we're just used to it that way now. We have broccoli and loads of gravy with it

San141 · 22/09/2024 11:49

Beetroot and Yorkshire pudding

Ihatethegrufflalo · 22/09/2024 11:49

Green veg like cabbage, broccoli or sprouts.

VerbenaGirl · 22/09/2024 11:51

Always peas. I like baked beans in my cottage pie. Husband rejects this notion completely!

fluffiphlox · 22/09/2024 11:53

Broccoli or green beans, or possibly Savoy cabbage. Not more carbs at any rate.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/09/2024 11:55

Considering that I put
Sweetcorn
Peas
Onions
Mushrooms
Carrots
Potato
Swede
Into a cottage pie (don't like shepherd's pie) then nothing else is needed. Sometimes I use left over bolognase as the basis for the pie, so it's tomatoey, garlicky and herby too.

BridgetJonesBigPants · 22/09/2024 11:56

PiggieWig · 22/09/2024 09:54

Peas and pickled red cabbage or beetroot.

Green veg and Yorkshire pudding!

TouringTheTearooms · 22/09/2024 12:10

Baked beans or spaghetti hoops is just bizarre!

Green veg here. Broccoli, peas or green beans most likely.

LadyRoughDiamond · 22/09/2024 12:11

Green veg - mix of kale/broccoli/fine beans. There are already carbs in the potato topping and I put carrots in mine - green veg is all that’s missing.
