Please settle a debate 😀

I always do ours with baked beans for the kids and sketti hoops for me (none bb eater)

My mate has hers with bread and butter 😱

Peas and carrots, sometimes broccoli.

Does it?!

Mine does. Most people add veg to it when cooking.

lapochette · 22/09/2024 10:07

I have it on its own, with peas or my personal favourite and a new revelation for me, baked beans!

Green vegetables, usually broccoli, green beans and peas. I only put carrots and onions in the cottage pie.

I don't really get the love of baked beans or bread and butter with everything, and spaghetti hoops make me heave.

crumblingschools · 22/09/2024 10:07

Why do you need gravy?

catin8oots · 22/09/2024 10:08

PiggieWig · 22/09/2024 09:54

Peas and pickled red cabbage or beetroot.

This has blown my mind.

The thing is I normally put peas and carrots in with the mince

Sometimes I serve with beans on the side but usually I pour gravy on top. I throw either a couple of tin of peas and carrots in the mince mixture or I will use a few bags of the frozen steam veg, that's got broccoli, carrots, cauliflower in it.

This very same thread came up the other day except it was about Shepherds Pie

What is this?

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 22/09/2024 10:09

Broccoli and peas

FrostyFlo · 22/09/2024 10:09

ginislife · 22/09/2024 10:10

@FrostyFlo mint sauce with cottage pie?

TulipTuesday · 22/09/2024 10:12

Broccoli or green beans and I’ll sometimes make cauliflower cheese to go with it.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 22/09/2024 10:13

Broccoli or dark green veg but the majority of the veg is in there: onion, carrot, celery and peas.

I love cauli cheese but isn't that a wet with a wet?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2024 10:17

Peas and gravy.

The idea of baked beans with it is abhorrent.

Same could be said for baked beans or spaghetti hoops

RenoDakota · 22/09/2024 10:20

Green beans, peas and gravy.

Rafting2022 · 22/09/2024 10:20

I would also have green veg plus pickled cabbage and beetroot.

To whoever said it blows their mind, is the above a northern thing?

I didn’t make the comment, but I’m southern and to me both pickled cabbage and beetroot are more things you’d have with cold food. Exception is pickled red cabbage at Christmas.

SpyOfHut6 · 22/09/2024 10:23

I'm making cottage pie today, with truffled mash potatoes and cheese. Served with buttered cavolo nero and fine green beans.

Mine does too I add frozen veg and gravy to mine 🤷‍♀️

Cantonet · 22/09/2024 10:25

Pickled cabbage, branston pickle & mango chutney are all favourites. Plus a sprinkle of Worcestershire sauce.

mynameiscalypso · 22/09/2024 10:27

I've never tried a pickled vegetable with it before but I can see the appeal - I think you need something to cut through the richness.
