Fake flowers/ potted plants

TV over a fireplace.
Those long fridge door handles on a front door.
Why?

CantConfessWontConfess · 16/09/2024 06:25

I've just moved into my house and it has most of the things on this list:
TV over the fireplace
Fake flowers
Autumnal garland
Flecked worktops
Fake stone fireplace
Venetian blinds
I love it!!! I might paint it entirely grey and buy a 'live laugh love' sign just to complete the list🤣

Superworm24 · 16/09/2024 06:26

I don't like anything too matchy. When it looks like you've just gone to b&m to update your theme or colour.

I'm normally guilty of lots of mumsnetters hates. I love a little bit of clutter, houseplants, seasonal wreaths on the front door, carpets and I especially love a coloured bath suite (I'd get an avocado one if my husband would let me!).

I’ve just had grey carpets fitted and I love them.

Fortunately, I don’t decorate my house based on what some random person on the internet thinks looks good 😂

didistutter56 · 16/09/2024 06:37

The only thing that really bothers me are the “neutral” homes you see on tiktok these days; everything beige or white, never any pictures, everything bought from Amazon, no personal or homely touches.

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 16/09/2024 06:41

Gloss or mirrored furniture.

Pumpkittenspice · 16/09/2024 06:47

Artex, which we have upstairs. I hate it so much, but it was there when we moved in last year. We haven’t got the funds for a plasterer to get rid of it yet!

Pine furniture, especially orangey pine!

“Upcycling” antique furniture. It breaks my heart to see beautiful pieces ruined!

CalicoPusscat · 16/09/2024 06:52

Most of my furniture is oak 😁

Don't think I'm 'guilty' of much else. I love autumn/Xmas wreaths, like a spot of crushed velvet, pretty fairy lights and am a little cluttered.

Off to google dado rails as don't know what they are.

Google 'dado' rails Smile

Aah, too late!

Pumpkittenspice · 16/09/2024 06:55

I’m surprised to see navy kitchens mentioned on here!

My kitchen has forest green cupboards, but navy was a strong contender!

I spotted that when I googled so edited 😁

menopausalmare · 16/09/2024 06:57

Affirming signs "live, love, laugh" etc.

StarSlinger · 16/09/2024 06:58

Metro tiles. They always look like public toilets.
F & B paint colours
Agas
Log burners

Pumpkittenspice · 16/09/2024 06:59

I’m guilty of the Autumnal wreath and garland. I have a couple of pumpkin cushions too. I love them! And we re-use them every year.

I wouldn’t buy anymore Autumnal decor, though. We’re happy with what we’ve got 🥰

StarSlinger · 16/09/2024 07:03

Granite worktops
Kitchen Islands
Bi fold doors

KateDelRick · 16/09/2024 07:06

I agree with pp about log burners. They're impractical and look so ugly. Like a metal cabinet which doesn't suit any fireplace giving out about 1°c of heat.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 16/09/2024 07:08

Dark grey/black window frames.

KateDelRick · 16/09/2024 07:10

Kitchen islands - yes, I moved in and it cost a lot to get ours ripped out. Doing that created space for a table and chairs, though. Far more practical than a random stack of cupboards.

Franjipanl8r · 16/09/2024 07:10

Grey and plastic. They seem to go hand in hand - if it’s grey it’s usually polyester or acrylic.

terracottafarm · 16/09/2024 07:11

Anything grey. I truly despise it.

Drearydiedre · 16/09/2024 07:13

Upcycled antique furniture...please don't paint Grandma's corner cabinet navy and replace the brass handles with ones from B and Q!

footgoldcycle · 16/09/2024 07:16

I hate these threads. They are designed to make people feel bad. Just have what you like

TheBers2024 · 16/09/2024 07:24

I dislike tiled floors. Ok in a bathroom. I understand why they have them in the Med but still think they make a room look unfinished.

I don't like curtains full stop. Except voiles. So faffy

Open staircases worry me

Paint and decoration doesn't worry me. It might not be my taste but if someone's put effort in it just looks like their home.

redtrain123 · 16/09/2024 07:32

Everyone has different tastes.

For me, when all the walls etc are white.

And open planned.
