Toilet brush (utter filth)

😂

think the world is divided on toilet brushes, I’m a fan, I want people to clean any shit off the loo and not have to shove their hands down there, the idea of which makes me bolk. Little disinfectant in the holder and change them regularly, as they are cheap as chips. You rinse the brush in the flush.

ive a friend who also thinks it’s minging, but when I asked her how they clean shit marks off, she explained you just give it a wipe. I honestly couldn’t believe she took exception to loo brushes but was all ok with folks shoving their hands in there and wiping the shit off.

each to their own, 😂

I hate loads of cheesy photos of the family "making memories" which have taken ages to perfect. Said photos being printed onto huge pictures or cushions.
Small and not loads of photos are fine.
Navy kitchens. In fact any blue decor, it's not a colour I like.
Wood burners in built up areas, fine in a country home.
Fake grass and hedges.
Vertical blinds, reminds me of the bank branch my parents used when I was little.
Crappy chandeliers in a normal home.
I also hate the trend of rendering the outside of a house with the dark grey window frames. It's like a modern equivalent of pebble dash!

Sparklywhiteteeth · 16/09/2024 12:14

I have a friend who lives in a lovely chocolate box pretty old cottage type house, and she’s replaced all the windows with charcoal grey pvc framed ones, and her lovely original wooden front door, with one of those modern pvc ones with little glass squares down the side, and a long handle. Also in charcoal grey.

i find it surprisingly jarring, when I pull up. Every time. No matter how many times I see it, I still find it jarring.

My husband who seldom even notices people decor, also commented, that it was out of place. From her own husbands comments I think he feels the same, he doesn’t like it.

The windows did need replacing but should have been done in keeping in my view, and the door only needed a sand and paint.

@Sparklywhiteteeth - that's an absolute crime, isn't it? I wonder why she just didn't go for a new build.

Gimjam · 16/09/2024 12:34

Magnolia walls
Cheap black furniture
Furniture all pushed up against the wall so you have a huge empty space in the middle
Fake leather sofas
Big tv on the wall
Family photos on the walls
Laminate floors

Gimjam · 16/09/2024 12:36

Curtains that don't touch the floor

MrsSunshine2b · 16/09/2024 12:36

Grey, white, and sad beige.
Astroturf.
Crushed velvet.
Chopped pillows.

Ploteiner · 16/09/2024 12:40

Wood burners. I don't think people realise how bad for you they are. If you wouldn't let someone smoke in your home, don't have a wood burner.

Ploteiner · 16/09/2024 12:41

Also people who have no stuff. Like where are all your things? Why are all the surfaces bare? I hate houses like that, they feel soulless.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 16/09/2024 12:50

TV too high.

Anything else, I don't care because I don't live there and who am I to judge what other people like?

80smonster · 16/09/2024 12:51

KateDelRick · 16/09/2024 11:13

@80smonster I love all that, it's kitsch!

London buses or Coastal?

Bluewhiteandyellow · 16/09/2024 12:53

TV's in the corner, why they just don't fit. Fake fireplaces in new houses.
Navy kitchens in a gloomy room. Red and orange soft furnishings. And anything pine.

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/09/2024 12:56

Agree with woodburners.

Similarly, artificial fragrance and/or an atmosphere that smells overwhelmingly of cleaning products especially bleach.

I strongly dislike big fugly black or brown leather sofas. Infact any kind of leather sofas.

I also don't like corner sofas or the ones with a bit sticking out to have your legs up on.

Am a sofa snob! Grin

I think it was size, and size of the plot to be honest, huge garden. It is a lovely house,

I honestly think some people have an eye for aesthetics, and some people simply don’t, they can’t visualise it, so likely the sales person said they were very popular , sold her the door, she’s seen them on other houses, and once it was installed it was an obvious mistake. Kind of like if everyone is getting them it must be good right?

To be honest I think she struggles internally too,and tends to go for what’s popular, rather than her own judgement, so cream walls, shiny and slippy brown leather sofas and lots of pine from the 90s dominate.

oddly she’s really judgey of other peoples homes. One friends new to them house is gorgeous, living room is loads of plump gorgeous cushions, dark blue walls, squishy real hide tan leather sofas, big rug, eclectic and colourful framed art on the walls and she sniffed and said it’s far too cluttered, to their actual face.

I was really taken aback. It’s far from cluttered and shows real personality, as well as being incredibly comfy and relaxing. I was honestly side eying her and thinking says the woman who just put grey pvc windows and door in an old period property 😱

London buses or Coastal?

Both! I have souvenirs from everywhere I've visited! (Mostly magnets though).

frozendaisy · 16/09/2024 13:05

Insides of houses I don't really notice or judge, it's whether a house feels welcoming.

Plastic grass on the other hand winds me up an unreasonable amount.

Actually plastic anything that is originally grown. It's just weird.

The house with the leather squishy sofa sounds lovely ❤️

Gimjam · 16/09/2024 13:32

I also have tab top curtains, carpets, a plastic flower ball hanging by my front door and my living room ceiling lights are cheap chandelier ones from Argos haha. I

dutysuite · 16/09/2024 11:13

Grey interior. I also hate it when people buy a 1930/1950s house render the outside, paint the entire thing grey and replace the front door with an office style door.

Not keen on navy kitchens either.

I hate it when people use blue flashing lights outside their house during Christmas. Hurts my eyes.

Edited

Makes me think the police are outside out the corner of my eye 🤣

I’m guilty of: no coffee table in the centre of rooms (I like the open space); pine floors (they’re original and a bit orangey now but ££££ to have the whole downstairs sanded so that’s last on our list); F&B paint colours (they suit my house)

I dislike: panelling that isn’t original (I agree with the fighting the period of your house comments); artex ceilings (don’t we all); feature walls; clutter!

Luluco · 16/09/2024 13:33

Grey decor. Fake grass.

needmorecoffee7 · 16/09/2024 13:33

Can't stand panelling

GreenAE · 16/09/2024 13:34

Fake grass.
Lack of greenery in gardens.

But everyone’s homes is their castle and they may do as they wish. No judgement x

Laura36TTC · 16/09/2024 13:42

Flowers on the oven hob
Decorative trays on beds
Labels for everything!
When the whole house has one colour scheme throughout

skippy67 · 16/09/2024 13:49

Herringbone flooring, unless it's original.

Sparklywhiteteeth · 16/09/2024 13:57

do you just sit there on your furniture all pressed up against the walls and a big open space in the middle unused? I have to say that’s something I don’t undersgand but know it’s not uncommon.

our coffee table is enormous, 4ft by 4ft, and it’s so handy, I’ve served meals on it, like tapas, or a takeaway in front of the telly, and great for when we have guests for drinks, cheese and biscuits etc, plus it fills the space.

It’s got books and candles on it. I don’t do clutter, but on the underneath layer there are some books we are reading, and on top some gorgeous gold and copper tea light holders from nkuku home. So nice in the evening as they flicker away, when I’m reading or listening to music.

when the coffee table is not in the room ie floors being sanded or rug being cleaned, it just looks so empty with so much space unused.
