Who is the most famous person alive today?

As in, well known world wide by face or name.

I would say the Queen was up there when she was alive but not sure Charles would make the top 10 now.

Trump, Putin or Elon Musk perhaps?

Obviously there are many famous Hollywood actors and singers but are any the most famous worldwide where English isn't the first language?

Taylor Swift

Twistybranch · 11/09/2024 18:26

Pope

Taylor Swift

I wondered that but is she as much of a 'thing' in some African countries, the Middle East, South Asia etc? Many non-western countries have their own 'stars' and genres of music.

Pope

Isn't that more the title than the actual person though?

Madonna 😐

Kulawand · 11/09/2024 18:28

Madonna, although maybe not recognisable anymore 😅

Madonna 😐

I'm not sure if she is well known worldwide among the under 30s. Britney Spears was also very famous but not sure if she is on that same scale worldwide today.

😂

Emily1583 · 11/09/2024 18:31

Paul McCartney?

NoraLuka · 11/09/2024 18:32

Maybe older actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Badabingbadabooom · 11/09/2024 18:33

Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie?

Although that’s my Euro-/Western-centric impression.

The football suggestions sound plausible.

dizzydizzydizzy · 11/09/2024 18:33

Trump I'd say. He is an odious man.

Harvestfestivalknickers · 11/09/2024 18:33

Ronaldo, Tom Cruise or Usain Bolt?

Molone · 11/09/2024 18:33

Emily1583 · 11/09/2024 18:31

Paul McCartney?

He came to my mind too.

Beefcurtains79 · 11/09/2024 18:33

Trump or Taylor Swift at the moment.

Screamingabdabz · 11/09/2024 18:34

Harvestfestivalknickers · 11/09/2024 18:33

Ronaldo, Tom Cruise or Usain Bolt?

Tom Cruise is a good shout. His films will be shown all over the world in many languages.

freezingmytoesoff · 11/09/2024 18:35

Taylor Swift

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/09/2024 18:35

Trump (unfortunately)

This is an interesting question (that’s why I keep posting on the thread!)

I was talking to an Indian colleague once and he was shocked that I couldn’t name a single cricketer, from any country, but dozens of footballers. He was the other way around!

tobee · 11/09/2024 18:37

Harvestfestivalknickers · 11/09/2024 18:33

Ronaldo, Tom Cruise or Usain Bolt?

I think people have forgotten Bolt already and Messi is nearly done.

Sports is international but lots of people have no interest.

Film people aren't as big as they used to be. But maybe Tom Cruise.

  • whoops meant to say Ronaldo not Messi but either really.
commonground · 11/09/2024 18:37

it depends on the age group I guess. My 83 year old mother wouldn't be able to identify Taylor Swift and might not even have heard of her.

Trump, on the other hand....
