Who is the most famous person alive today?

virgocatlover · 11/09/2024 18:22

As in, well known world wide by face or name.

I would say the Queen was up there when she was alive but not sure Charles would make the top 10 now.

Trump, Putin or Elon Musk perhaps?

Obviously there are many famous Hollywood actors and singers but are any the most famous worldwide where English isn't the first language?

OP posts:

Spiderman.

Marchitectmummy · 11/09/2024 19:00

Elon Musk, Trump and Kim Jong Un

RedheadedSoulStealer · 11/09/2024 19:00

I couldn't recognise a single sports player other than maybe David Beckham.

I've never watched it and I know a lot of people who aren't into football.

But even people who don't like Taylor Swift know who she is, what she looks like etc

I would say Trump or Taylor Swift based on the fact that I think many people (including non English speaking) would be able to see a picture of them and know who they are.

BettyBardMacDonald · 11/09/2024 19:01

Mick Jagger?

Who is the most famous person who has ever lived? Jesus?

A mere C-lister compared to Elvis Presley.

King Charles

SushiSheep · 11/09/2024 19:03

DC(7) says it's Mario 😂

PodgePie · 11/09/2024 19:03

It has to be Trump, which is exactly what he wanted sadly!

Planesmistakenforstars · 11/09/2024 19:05

I suppose it depends if you mean have heard of them, or if people would actually recognise them. If it's the former then loads of people mentioned on this thread.

If the latter, then just taking myself as an example, I have no clue what Taylor Swift, Messi, Beyonce or Elon Musk look like. But I think everybody would, sadly, recognise both the name and image of Putin and Trump.

I would say today, Trump is more famous. When Obama was president then it was the other way round.

I'm not sure about footballers - football is very popular worldwide ofc but very much a 'male' thing in non-western countries and probably a much smaller following among women in comparison. Plus big countries like America are less into that sort of football and prioritise other sports (American football)

Population of the US is 333million.

Population of China, India, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, in fact, the entirety of Asia, Europe, South America, Central America, and Africa, where football (soccer) is absolutely massive completely dwarfs that.

Granted, in India most people are obsessed with cricket, but there will also be many more football obsessives in India than there are Baseball obsessives in the US simply because the Indian population is an order of magnitude larger.

Actually, I'm trying to think of someone who transcends language - Mr Bean?! I wonder if Rowan Atkinson gets recognised everywhere he goes?

DeCaray · 11/09/2024 19:06

Ronnie Pickering.

Jammedchakra · 11/09/2024 19:06

We were in Tanzania this year and EVERYWHERE we went the Premier League was asked about. I'd say it's a footballer, followed closely by a Hollywood A List, like that nut job Tom Cruise.

Wineandcupcakes · 11/09/2024 18:43

You really think in places like India or Vietnam they have all heard of Ronaldo?

Most definitely.

Choochoo21 · 11/09/2024 19:07

Kim Kardashian or Donald Trump

I don’t think there is anywhere in the world that aren’t familiar with those 2 names.

skyfalldown · 11/09/2024 19:08

I know next to nothing about football and couldn't pick Ronaldo or Messi out in a lineup, but I am an outlier in a world of footie fans. It's a footballer for sure - the third world countries lock it in

Twototwo15 · 11/09/2024 19:08

Rowan Atkinson, as Mr Bean seems to have got around a bit.

SlashBeef · 11/09/2024 19:08

I think long term it's gotta be Trump?
Short term Taylor Swift. I took dd to the eras tour and it was like a mega church.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 11/09/2024 19:09

I think The Orange One(Trump) ... but OP should ask China, because they have all the answers!

Luckingfovely · 11/09/2024 19:09

Nothing new to add other than I think it would be a footballer too - look at the global following of ManU.

I was shockingly reminded of how much of an age differential there is (or just how old I am Grin) talking to an 18yo at the weekend who had never heard of Kylie Minogue. I ended up saying, she makes wine.

Newpillow · 11/09/2024 19:09

David Attenborough?

Ah, just seen he’s already been mentioned 🙂

onwardsup4 · 11/09/2024 19:10

Slightly off topic but found it interesting watching Romesh Ranganathan filming in Madagascar talking to men who look after lemurs and they had never heard of the film Madagascar. That was a massive world wide film , literally had no idea what he was talking about
