Anybody remember this song?

I was early teens and thought it was the most amazing, perfect and romantic song I'd ever heard in my life 🤣 The video was easy on the eye too.

I suddenly remembered it recently and searched for it on YouTube. Was surprised that it had nowhere near the effect on me...in fact none😂

Just really interested if anyone here remembers when it came out, how they felt at the time and how they feel now when they listen to it!

The first time I heard it I thought it was ok. It hung around in the charts for bloody ever so after the fiftieth listen I was very, very bored of it.

And now I've got it in my head again. Ugh.

LolaCrapola · 06/09/2024 22:11

Yep! I heard it on the radio recently… I still like it and had a copy of it as a cassette single when they were a thing! Perhaps you’re a bit more realistic about romantic love now? I certainly am!

dun1urkin · 06/09/2024 22:11

I loved it when I was a misty eyed teen. I heard it on the radio a bit ago, and realised it’s a song about coercing someone to have sex. Eurgh.

magicstar1 · 06/09/2024 22:11

I loved it as a teenager, but as a cynical middle aged woman, he’s just out for a shag.

Conniethecatapillar · 06/09/2024 22:12

Yes I loved it at the time but agree it doesn't have the same effect now 🫣🤣 I don't think I knew about Jeff Buckley back then clearly 🫣

OntheupsoIam · 06/09/2024 22:12

I’m the same as you op, thought it was amazing at the time and so romantic but it falls flat for me now.

TwigTheWonderKid · 06/09/2024 22:13

Oh god it's such a wimpy, cringey song!

I was in a ldr.. He used to make me tapes of soppy songs..remember cassettes people?!?! That song was on it. Still think of him when I hear it. I was 25. Now 53-def the one that got away!!

lashy · 06/09/2024 22:16

'91 or '92.
Reminds me of when my friend was falling in love with her then boyfriend (was playing on the radio when we were all at her Mam's house one day).
They eventually married and are still together now.

LemongrassLollipop · 06/09/2024 22:17

Loved this song when it was released and me and my sister used to sing it, I loved singing the harmony parts.
Still hear it lots and always sing along

Soldieringnonosoldiershere · 06/09/2024 22:18

I’ve always thought it was gross. He’s basically saying if you love me You’ll fuck me

Soldieringnonosoldiershere · 06/09/2024 22:19

Saying "I love you"
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say but if you only knew
How easy, it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know

PiggieWig · 06/09/2024 22:21

We used to hang around my friend’s house in the summer holidays when our parents were at work, watching MTV and smoking her mum’s silk cut at the breakfast bar.
This song was always on. It reminds me of that time. Same era as that Brian Adams song from Robin Hood, and the film Heathers.
Great summer memories 😅

fourelementary · 06/09/2024 22:21

You bunch of old cynics- it doesn’t mean sex. It could just be that you don’t need words when you embrace the one you love. You unromantic old perverts assuming it’s all about sex!

l loved it as a teen and I still enjoy singing along to it! Always pleased with myself when I get the “thump thump” timed correctly!! 😆

I remember it well, used to play it when I was in a band at Uni.

Wonder if I can still play it. Might try tomorrow.

Really?! Maybe I heard it on the radio too...I have no idea why it suddenly came into my mind.

OMG I loved that song so much. My drippy boyfriend used to play it for me on his guitar (and he would try to explain to me that from a technical perspective, Nuno was a great guitarist but Flight of the Bumblebee was a better example of his skills). But, hilariously, it never occurred to me that the 'more than words' was a shag 😂😂. My wide-eyed teenage self thought it was a song about doing nice things for people like opening doors and buying flowers and keeping promises.

Why have you just linked to the song? I clicked on the link thinking it was an exposé about them or something 😂

I loved that song and loved Nuno Bettencourt even more! He’s not aged badly…sadly, can’t say the same about the song.
