Anybody remember this song?

I was early teens and thought it was the most amazing, perfect and romantic song I'd ever heard in my life 🤣 The video was easy on the eye too.

I suddenly remembered it recently and searched for it on YouTube. Was surprised that it had nowhere near the effect on me...in fact none😂

Just really interested if anyone here remembers when it came out, how they felt at the time and how they feel now when they listen to it!

love the song.
bought the album back in the day and was a bit disapointed <understatement> as they are a cacophonic hardrock band.

vipersnest1 · 07/09/2024 10:49

I love it - and think the two of them are beautiful. 😍

I know exactly what you mean. I went to bed with that sodding song going through my head. I woke up with it still going. It's been hours now. HOURS.

@PerfectYear321 I'm taking you off my Christmas card list for this 😡

Absolutely! It’s been 8 hours and that crappy dirge is STILL going round and round.

Disturbia81 · 07/09/2024 10:51

@PerfectYear321 I hear it a lot as I have it added to my spotify playlist

Giggorata · 07/09/2024 10:52

My teen DC were into various heavy rock bands (well, we all were) and they played me this when it first came out.
So it brings back nice memories of those teenage years (and reminds me that they weren't all arguments and door slamming!)

It’s always linked to Mr Big’s Be With You in my head. They must have come out around the same time. My music app thinks so too, as it always plays these 2 songs together whenever I give it free reign.

Yes it was about the same time

WinkyTinky · 07/09/2024 10:54

Someone at work said this was about sex, and a very specific part of it... But then she says that about everything! 😅
Our music teacher at school had us sing the song in our choir with all the harmonies. Looking back now, if the above is true, is a bit 😫😫😫😅
However, back to the music, Extreme's best song is Hole Hearted. I absolutely love it and it reminds me of the last year at school. Fantastic video as well. Look it up, @PerfectYear321 👍🏼 Ooo, just one more thing. Never mind Nuno, it's the drummer who's the hottie in this band. Crikey 🔥

DadJoke · 07/09/2024 10:59

The writer claims it is about actions rather than words being important, not sex, but I am doubtful.

What I found funny was people buying their album on the basis of that song and getting the shock of their lives!

WinkyTinky · 07/09/2024 11:00

I've just watched it, and almost in tears!! Takes me right back to double chemistry, lunch times in town, and walking around the park on a night 💖

I always found it a bit whiny. She’s clearly not that into you, mate. Move on.

bluecomputerscreen · 07/09/2024 11:02

I suppose they are similar to other heavy metal bands.
they like the noise but are also quite good musicians so are able to astound with vocals and harmonies.
metallica, the scorpions, manowar all did this to some degree.

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2024 11:05

Got confused by the Mr Big references as there was also a band called Mr Big in the late 70s. They also had another song with suspect lyrics. I think Mary Whitehouse got involved 👓. I'm sure we played it to our music teacher and then watched him squirm at the lyrics.

But this Extreme song was sentimental shite. My boyfriend at the time played the guitar. I remember how insulted he was when his female flatmates said "You'll like this" about this song.🤣

StMarieforme · 07/09/2024 11:06

It's not romantic, it's saying if you love me give me a shag!

the80sweregreat · 07/09/2024 11:06

It is a bit whiney .

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/09/2024 11:07

I absolutely loved that song. Still do. It's beautiful.

the80sweregreat · 07/09/2024 11:07

Be with you is a similar kind of song too

MorrisZapp · 07/09/2024 11:08

I bloody loved that song! But in my memory it pairs with I'm too Sexy for my Shirt by Right Said Fred 😂

If I remember rightly they were slightly mucking about in the video, waving their lighters in a mock cheesy fashion. God they were gorgeous.

StMarieforme · 07/09/2024 11:10

It's like people thinking Elton John's Sacrifice is a love song. It's about a married man cheating and excusing it because of his souse's 'cold cold heart'. He's also serially cheating as he says "done things are better baby, just passing through".

Bernie Taupin wrote it about the break up of one of his marriages.

And people say "oh I live this song it's so romantic".

pintofsnakebite · 07/09/2024 11:10

I broke my heart to this song when I was 15.

Well someone else broke it and I wallowed remorselessly.

It still makes me feel very odd.

fourelementary · 06/09/2024 22:21

You bunch of old cynics- it doesn’t mean sex. It could just be that you don’t need words when you embrace the one you love. You unromantic old perverts assuming it’s all about sex!

l loved it as a teen and I still enjoy singing along to it! Always pleased with myself when I get the “thump thump” timed correctly!! 😆

It's really does lol!

the80sweregreat · 07/09/2024 11:13

'Car share 'with Peter Kay had all these songs on in the background ( or similar ones)
I like listening out for songs on dramas / soaps etc. they marry it up to the story

I loved this song and think I have the album it's on somewhere. I even saw them in concert at Hammersmith Apollo back in the day. Nostalgia! ☺️

Similar! I remember the song very well and saw Extreme live at Maine Road when they were supporting Bryan Adams. We were at the very front, literally able to touch the stage. My friend and I were both 17-18 and had been training so we could sprint to the stage as soon as the doors opened at Maine Road. And sprint we did! 😂It was actually the best concert that I've ever been to (apart from Squeeze who were terrible and booed off stage) and I'm in my 50s now! Bryan Adams was spectacular but Extreme were also very good.

Forestcantrun · 07/09/2024 11:15

Am singing this along in my head right now. Thanks for the ear worm 🤣🤣

Whatineed · 07/09/2024 11:15

I saw them live last year. Yep no feelings about the song whatsoever but "Hole Hearted" was very good love. Nuno is still absolutely stunning. Excuse blurry photo, I was dancing. 😂

Whatineed · 07/09/2024 11:16

Live not love. Freudian slip for Nuno there... 😂
