More Than Words by Extreme

Anybody remember this song?

I was early teens and thought it was the most amazing, perfect and romantic song I'd ever heard in my life 🤣 The video was easy on the eye too.

I suddenly remembered it recently and searched for it on YouTube. Was surprised that it had nowhere near the effect on me...in fact none😂

Just really interested if anyone here remembers when it came out, how they felt at the time and how they feel now when they listen to it!

I’ve always thought it was gross. He’s basically saying if you love me You’ll fuck me

Really? Omg, need to listen back

I'm sure either Boyzone or Westlife did a cover version of it at some point.

Saying "I love you"
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say but if you only knew
How easy, it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know

Eek!!!!!

I do love a guitar. I think that's what got me

I still like it and sing along with him. I don’t really see it as a creepy song tbh

I was in a ldr.. He used to make me tapes of soppy songs..remember cassettes people?!?! That song was on it. Still think of him when I hear it. I was 25. Now 53-def the one that got away!!

Same for me LDR it was our song, that he sung to me (off key but still loved him for it). Still reminds me of him and the happy times, it was an amicable breakup. Only stopped talking at all because his wife got jealous. 🙄

I was also serenaded with Tenacious D F*ck Her Gently by another partner years later, at least he was honest 😂

We used to hang around my friend’s house in the summer holidays when our parents were at work, watching MTV and smoking her mum’s silk cut at the breakfast bar.
This song was always on. It reminds me of that time. Same era as that Brian Adams song from Robin Hood, and the film Heathers.
Great summer memories 😅

😂
Lovely memories!

I loved that song and loved Nuno Bettencourt even more! He’s not aged badly…sadly, can’t say the same about the song.

Which one is Nuno Bettencourt?

Did they?! Do you have a link?

Ugh! Gross. I did like it at the time bit even then I knew it was a bit ‘pushy’. My ex said he wanted to make a video of his daughters using it as a soundtrack. I pointed out then that the words weren't really appropriate to that but he’d never listened to the words. He just thought it was a nice song about loving someone. Sounds like lots of people on here and never really listened either!

You bunch of old cynics- it doesn’t mean sex. It could just be that you don’t need words when you embrace the one you love. You unromantic old perverts assuming it’s all about sex!

l loved it as a teen and I still enjoy singing along to it! Always pleased with myself when I get the “thump thump” timed correctly!! 😆

THANK YOU!
They are trying to ruin the memories of my childhood!

The singer who is now Rihanna’s guitarist (just googled him from reading this 🤣)

No it isn't - it's basically saying words are cheap you say you love me but your actions don't show it, if you treated me like an equal, with respect and kindness then that would show your love for me. I always took it that the person in this song was in a relationship with someone who treated them like dirt but said they loved them - if the treated them better then they wouldn't have to say they loved them as their actions would show they did.

TheHallmarkedMan · 06/09/2024 22:36

My main memory of this song is my SIL sitting in our garden as it was playing and agonising about whether to carry on with her pregnancy. Her bf and her were really rocky at the time.

She did have the baby, and married the bf, it all worked out and her highly successful daughter just announced her engagement.

Everytime we hear that song it takes us both back to that moment.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 06/09/2024 22:38

Now that I've tried to
Talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands
And touch me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go

Definitely about sex!

harriettenightingale · 06/09/2024 22:40

I think it's deeply creepy, my ex loved it and he was a creepy bastard too.

Annielou67 · 06/09/2024 22:40

Nuno Bettencourt is so gorgeous.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 06/09/2024 22:42

Yeah. Nuno was beautiful. But the song, not so much!

harriettenightingale · 06/09/2024 22:42

But agree about Nuno Bettencourt.

Bruisername · 06/09/2024 22:42

When I was at school 2 sixth formers performed it at the talent show thingy and it was amazing - the boy singing was amazing and the guitar with it. Not a teenage crush type thing - it was just spine tinglingly good. So that song always has a special place for me!!

Cheesecakelunch · 06/09/2024 22:43

Hmm unpopular opinion. I loved this song at the time and still do now. Off to watch on YouTube😆

Yirk · 06/09/2024 22:43

Still love this song.
