What is your resting heart rate?

Just curious. Someone said mine means I must be really fit but I'm not as active as I'd like to be.

62bpm. I'm slightly overweight, don't exercise beyond walking an hour a day, and am in my 50s. I do have a slow-ish thyroid.

belindaah · 08/09/2024 09:09

I've just checked my pulse myself and it's accurate (Fitbit).

60 - 100 bpm is normal.

I have a feeling the reason there are so many low HR on here is the use of smart watches.

I’ve checked mine and it’s accurate. It’s a Garmin.

LOL.

All of you with HR lower than 50 if that is true you need to see a Dr about a pacemaker, or at least get a Holter monitor.

I would never set a pacemaker to less than 60 and I don't think you actually can.

I’ve sat and counted when it’s been at 45 (sat in bed) a few times. I’ve switched watches with my friend to see if they default to our ‘normal’, it does. We’ve done that on hill runs, sedantry, standard run. Not everyone in the big wide world is an idiot that accepts things you know ‘LOL’ 🙄
For what it’s worth I’m sat here and it’s 60, I’ve just been out. running.

My blood pressure is also very low. My DM who is 80 is the same.

Solonga · 08/09/2024 10:59

DH runs a lot, usually marathons and ultras every couple of weeks with shorter runs in between, his resting heart rate is about 60, he is mid 60s with medicated high blood pressure

Sorry I was laughing at the 'it's a Garmin' to me that's a GPS device.

I’m not boasting about mine being low - at around 56 when I’m overweight and inactive. It worries me. i also have a very low respiratory rate which is below normal. This worries me too

PoopedAndScooped · 08/09/2024 01:00

79-85 isnt MAD high and you can scare people saying that

Again. Compared to people on here and irl I have found that it is. I also stated the dr isn't worried. So no scare mongering here thanks.

CaptainBeanThief · 08/09/2024 14:14

I have atrial fibrillation ( at 30 years of age 🙄) and it could be 58 or it could be 128 my heart does what it wants 🥴

nojudge · 08/09/2024 15:25

For all those panicking, your heart rate recovery (how quickly your heart rate decreases after exertion/exercise) is a better indicator of cardio fitness than resting heart rate.

Pickingmyselfup · 08/09/2024 15:33

My Garmin suggests 66 which has come down, it used to be high 70s I think. During my first pregnancy I had doctors worried I was going to drop down dead any minute with my too fast heart rate but investigations didn't show anything up.

I have had a couple of alerts from my watch recently to tell me my heart rate is abnormally high (100) when I'm sat around doing nothing and not feeling stressed. No idea what that was about!

I'm a ridiculously active person a lot of the time through choice and my job but some days like today I do absolutely nothing.

Work2live · 08/09/2024 15:46

52-58 most days. Highest I've seen mine recently was 194 during a HIIT workout.

I'm early 30s and recovering from a long(ish) term injury, so my fitness has suffered this year. I used to be very fit but always had quite a high HR when exercising e.g. I find zone 2 running almost impossible! 😂 Mine tends to reduce pretty quickly post-exercise though.

A Garmin is specific though. A GPS device encompasses lots of different devices 🤷‍♀️

It isnt tho!!!

That is NORMAL , hence the doctors not being worried

PoopedAndScooped · 08/09/2024 17:38

Some people really trying to ‘out do’ each other here 😂😂😂😂😂

Average is between 65 and 75, so although normal, it's high. I've never spoken to someone whose rhr is above about 70.

I ain't worried. The doc isn't either. I used the word MAD. I really apologise its triggered you so much

Well it is that. It does also report heart rate. I’ve been quite concerned about my HR and so checked the data many ways. My HR also doesn’t go as high as other people.

I did wonder if normal HR has been established before modern life and with so many data points available now it might shift. I run and exercise a lot, but sit quietly at my desk during the day for long periods. If I’m up and about round the house my HR is very different than during the working day.

I think it’s interesting and would like to know more about the so called norms.

It has not ‘triggered’ me so dont be so sarcastic

Normal is 60-100

Youve never spoken to anyone above 70 bpm? Is this a regular conversation then? Because most people wouldnt have any idea what there accurate obs are which are done by a hospital or doctor
As i said , its normal
That is WHY the doctor isnt worried

You using the words ‘Mad high’
can trigger people here especially people with health anxiety

Ypur doctor isnt worried because its NORMAL
Not high at all !!!!

I wont be replying to any more of your mad high‘ responses

Have a great day 🌵

I've recently had a new watch. I've started to try and walk more, as a disabled person, this is still not far, and realised my rpr is high compared to conversations in the past. I have been asking people what theirs are. No one i have spoken to has been over 70. Ok?

So, AGAIN, compared to people I have spoken to, and on here, mine is high.

Dear God almighty, this place.

No ablation? No cardioversion? Wow.

Hop2 · 09/09/2024 06:14

Usually around 50-55bpm and if I lay down it drops into 40s, when I was slim my RHR was around 42 RHR so I've never been concerned.

My Fitbit usually matches my blood pressure monitor reading so seems pretty accurate. I also fall in the athlete/child zone for BP but I'm very unfit. I'm sure it's always been that way.

Ineffable23 · 09/09/2024 06:15

My smart watch reckoned it's between 73-78 depending how stressed I am. I feel surprised that seemingly that puts my heart rate into the top 5% or so and I suspect this is a useful illustration of "the plural of anecdote is not data".
