What is your resting heart rate?

Just curious. Someone said mine means I must be really fit but I'm not as active as I'd like to be.

My resting heart rate is 50-54 on average, according to Fitbit. I don't know how accurate that is. I had been worried it was too low, but apparently it's in the normal range and not bad for my age.

I exercise a lot! Numerous classes, running, and CG training.

sashh · 07/09/2024 06:09

If you are quoting what your watch says you are not quoting your resting HR.

Normal is 60 - 100 at rest.

A few things influence this. The first is stature, if you are small you will probably have a higher resting HR than someone taller.

Fitness does have an effect but it depends on the exercise, long distance runners famously have low resting HR, cyclists not so much.

My pulse is currently 76 but I'm sitting up rather than being truly at rest.

HollyKnight · 07/09/2024 06:35

I just checked mine manually. 66 bpm. Nice and normal.

My fitbit will probably say 40 bpm.

Meadowfinch · 07/09/2024 06:36
  1. I'm 61 and run a couple of times a week.

According to the BHF it should be between 60 & 100 for the average adult.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 07/09/2024 06:43

Over the last 8 years my average is 54 . Rises to 58/59 if I’m fighting off a cold etc. Has dropped as low as 49. According to my Fitbit

Never thought I'd see competitively low heart rates, even on MN. New levels of bonkers 🤣🤣

Ha ha ha that’s what I thought! I’m reading this and thinking WTF. Google suggests an excellent resting heart rate for a woman age 36-45 is 60 -65 and average 74-78.

There I was at 58 with a resting heart rate of between 69-73 doing 95,000 steps a week and thinking I’m doing ok.

polkadotpixie · 07/09/2024 07:01

Mine is 84, always has been since I was at school and we measured it in Science 🤣

I'm generally healthy, not particularly fit nowadays and BMI 26 although it was the same when I was fitter and my BMI was 21 so it's just how I am

It's actually more like 90 atm because I'm pregnant

I'm not concerned

Garlictest · 07/09/2024 07:08

Around 80. I wouldn't normally bother with a thread like this but people are posting such low rates, I thought I'd better add to the smattering of normal readings!

I'm over 60, sedentary and have chronic conditions. 80-90 bpm is not considered problematic.

K0OLA1D · 07/09/2024 07:09

Mines always been mad high.

Normally around 79-85. Even sleeping it doesn't drop below around 69-75.

I have mentioned it to the GP and nurse and they say because my BP is OK it's nothing to worry about.

Phew me too! How old are you? I'm 34. I have a chronic condition too

Edited. Ignore my age question! Its obviously too early for me to read!

InOut2023 · 07/09/2024 07:09

Between 37-44

PointyHairyLegHairs · 07/09/2024 07:12

Low-ish, around 54 bpm. Low BP . Low resp rate. irregular heartbeat.
Built like an elephant.

namechanged221 · 07/09/2024 07:15

48

I run 20-30 km per week and my rhr has got lower the more running I do.

TurquoiseDress · 07/09/2024 07:18

Fitbit telling me my resting heart rate is 63

TurquoiseDress · 07/09/2024 07:19

I'm the other side of 40 and exercise around 3/4 times a week mainly cardio stuff

bozzabollix · 07/09/2024 07:32

About 64, if I have a nights drinking it’ll go up to mid 70’s. All totally boring and normal according to my medical consultant husband.

This is not mad high. It's pretty normal.

willowtree66 · 07/09/2024 08:34

Garmin says mine was 37 over the last four hours, which is strange as I've just done a full on night shift 😫

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 07/09/2024 08:46

I am in my late fifties and mine is usually between 54 and 56.

It has come down from c 65 earlier this year , I took up running and it's made a big difference.

AskTrivialQuestion · 07/09/2024 09:19

about 52-54 usually. when it's 55-57 then it's associated with being sick, or with stress relating to work/travel

welshweasel · 07/09/2024 10:31

Average over past 4 weeks is 42. I'm relatively fit (run 3 times a week), BMI 28.

K0OLA1D · 07/09/2024 10:32

Mabelthebore · 07/09/2024 08:23

It's mad high compared to everyone on here and people I know IRL. My 86 yo nans was only 68

Cynic17 · 06/09/2024 21:33

I have absolutely no idea - why on earth would I need to know? Is this just something for the "worried well"?

Because we don't fancy becoming ill at a young age and being incapacitated. The fitter you are the better quality of life you lead for longer.

I'm 50 and my resting is 50-54. I'm annoyingly active and healthy.

AuntieStella · 07/09/2024 10:40

I think people may be quoting what their smart watches say, which often includes overnight. Mine is telling me today that my 7 day average is 47.

But right now I'm sitting round, nice and relaxed, titting round on MN until it's time to go and pick up an offspring, and my daytime at rest heart rate currently is 61..
