What is your resting heart rate?

Just curious. Someone said mine means I must be really fit but I'm not as active as I'd like to be.

My watch says resting rate is 61bpm

Arconialiving · 07/09/2024 20:50

@AuntieStella my resting HR is 48-54 - totally normal for me. No need for medical review.

CrunchyCarrot · 07/09/2024 20:56

Mine is around 64. I always know when a histamine attack is coming as my heart rate is the first thing to rise (and it thumps so I can feel it, too).

For those thinking they have very low heart rates due to their watch saying so, take off your watch and do a physical measurement yourself. 2 fingers on the pulse point of your wrist whilst sitting calmly. Count for 30 seconds then double it, there's your heart rate. I think the watches are misleading people.

Sexyshrek · 07/09/2024 21:00

Is your heart rate the same as your pulse? I just took mine and got 88 bpm. I should go wait at A and E for the inevitable heart attack.

JumpingJill · 07/09/2024 21:24

By way of another counterpoint to these unusually low figures, mine is 90 (and always has been since early twenties). That’s a sitting down scrolling MN rate (not asleep).

It rises and comes down appropriately quickly with exercise. Have had several ECGs (private medical check ups through work) and no Dr has ever said anything or expressed concern.

Nope - my watch is correct however I take my pulse!

Soldieringnonosoldiershere · 07/09/2024 21:27

About 56. I’m overweight and not active

MovingTooFast121 · 07/09/2024 21:34

I sit in the low 50s usually. My watch reckons it drops into the 40s overnight sometimes. I’m quite active, and do some kind of activity (run, cycle, circuits) every day but I’m not mega fit.

DH on the other hand IS unreasonably fit. His RHR is in the 40s and can go into the low 30s overnight. On the couple of occasions he has been in hospital he has set off every alarm going.

LoveSandbanks · 07/09/2024 21:35

Mine is 76. 56, bmi 27, regular long distance runner, use the gym. It’s artificially high due to medication that I take.

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/09/2024 22:24

@AuntieStella oh shit really? It's way way below 60. Thanks 🙈

jellybeanlover2 · 07/09/2024 22:35

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 06/09/2024 21:50

Never thought I'd see competitively low heart rates, even on MN. New levels of bonkers 🤣🤣

😂

Spacecowboys · 07/09/2024 22:47

About 80. Walk 10k a day, 57kg. Heart rate has been like that since I was 18.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2024 22:48

My resting heart rate is 51 according to my Apple Watch, and that's consistent over the last year.
I'm 63, fairly fit for my age but I am on thyroxine for hypothyroidism.

Sleep heart rate shows as between 47-60 bpm last night

I think the watch is pretty accurate - it can do a decent 2-lead ECG so I can see it da-dumping away in sinus rhythm. If I do a reading at random during the day it's nearly always higher (60-70ish) because I don't often think to do it when I'm really resting.

I'm slightly wondering if the apparently 'low' range of readings many of us see is that these watches sit on us all day, when we're at home properly relaxed? I don't know how the data for the reference ranges quoted were acquired , maybe in the past not so very unobtrusively and in conjunction with a movement monitor.

Sux2buthen · 07/09/2024 22:50

90 something, it's always been a quick one

Compash · 07/09/2024 23:00

Interesting to hear from people with autoimmune issues having a higher heart rate... 🤔 Mine's always been about 82 - 85 at rest. I'm reasonably fit and about 24 BMI, but I recently developed Graves Disease (AI overactive thyroid thing)...

My blood pressure, conversely, has always been low, about 95/60 sometimes. And some days I will feel just lousy and it turns out my heart rate's dropped to low 70s. Guessing that's the thyroid too? Weird that it whacks up and down like that for no reason. Don't take any meds. 🤷‍♀️

I wonder what the mechanism is if Autoimmune = high heart rate?

Compash · 07/09/2024 23:02

DollyTots · 07/09/2024 18:22

Mine’s between 85-100. I’m 34, 9st and low-ish blood pressure. No GPs or hospital consultant see an issue with it.

I feel woozy a lot but had a few ECGs which show no issues. The heart is probably compensating for the blood pressure.

Yes, I suspect that too - the heart compensating for blood pressure thing.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2024 23:08

58

I’ve checked mine and it’s accurate. It’s a Garmin.

my HR averages 47, but goes as low as 39.

K0OLA1D · 07/09/2024 07:09

Mines always been mad high.

Normally around 79-85. Even sleeping it doesn't drop below around 69-75.

I have mentioned it to the GP and nurse and they say because my BP is OK it's nothing to worry about.

79-85 isnt MAD high and you can scare people saying that

PoopedAndScooped · 08/09/2024 01:06

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/09/2024 20:34

Not to brag but I actually get alerts on my watch telling me my Hr is too low

Thats not a brag though is it

PoopedAndScooped · 08/09/2024 01:08

Got to love people

‘My heart rate is 40-55 but im sooooo active
I do lots ‘

Those kind of numbers are for ELITE athletes

Some of you 100% should see a doctor if they are true readings
But i suspect most of you , have bad fitting watches / Not accurate numbers

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 08/09/2024 01:14

42 bpm. Recorded the old fashioned way by taking my pulse.

belindaah · 08/09/2024 01:18

So my heart rate hovers around 50. I'm by no means an elite athlete! It's always been remarked on my nurses/doctors who have checked my pulse. Just is what it is. My blood pressure is fine though. Very interesting to see the huge range.

The watches aren't accurate, I love my Apple Watch but when I changed my series 5 for a series 9:my average resting heart rate went up by about 6 or 7 beats a minute

K0OLA1D · 07/09/2024 10:32

It's mad high compared to everyone on here and people I know IRL. My 86 yo nans was only 68

60 - 100 bpm is normal.

I have a feeling the reason there are so many low HR on here is the use of smart watches.

I’ve checked mine and it’s accurate. It’s a Garmin.

LOL.

All of you with HR lower than 50 if that is true you need to see a Dr about a pacemaker, or at least get a Holter monitor.

I would never set a pacemaker to less than 60 and I don't think you actually can.
