What is your resting heart rate?

Just curious. Someone said mine means I must be really fit but I'm not as active as I'd like to be.

Anything from 90 to 100.

I've got a bucket tonne of medical issues though, chronic pain being one of them.

44 according to my Apple Watch. Get notifications about twice a week that it’s dropped below 40 for more than 10 minutes, usually early hours of the morning. Not fit at all, slightly overweight and avoid exercise.

By resting, do people mean literally laying down very relaxed?
Mine is 60, but usually if I'm sitting up working it's around 80
I am hypothyroid (treated), otherwise healthy, and could do with losing a stone and also losing 10 years while I'm at it😊

Around 42. I am also a distance runner and quite fit. My maximum I think is about 175.

  1. But similar to a previous poster, my dad also has a slow heartbeat so it's likely genetic. When I was younger and a gym bunny, I thought it was because I was fit.....that's DEFINITELY not the reason now🤣

I’m 40 and my resting HR is Around 42-44 but I train and compete in endurance sport.

Yes me too, if I'm feeling a bit warm or headachy I check my watch and if it's 70+ I know I'm fighting something. Remember it ran into the 90s when I had my covid jab even though I felt fine which was interesting.

Yes me too! Plus, when I was pregnant, each time one of the very earliest changes (ie before I could even do a test) was that my HR jumped up by approximately 10bpm. The body is fascinating!

That's why I gave two figures

  • one is for daytime, no particular exertion (65)
  • one for overnight or after lying like a slug on the sofa all evening (49)

Yours sounds fine.
Mine is low - RHR should be between 60-100
But it's OK for me because of the amount of running I do and because it rises and falls appropriately with exertion.

If you are not active and your RHR is under 60, or does not rise on exertion, then I recommend you have a look at the British Heart Foundation website, and consider booking a GP appointment to discuss.

Mine is around 40bpm. It was as low as 33 bpm for a while and I had loads of tests done. I was very anemic and after 6 months on iron it's now increased a bit and I feel so much better. Bradychardia is not nice, you feel quite oxygen hungry at times. I know when I'm ovulating because I rise up a few bpm and the same when my period is due.
I'm fit and a distance runner, plus family trait of having low HR and low blood pressure. Garmin measure the lowest 30 minute average in a 24 hr period which for most people is in the middle of the night sometime.

It's in the sixties usually. During a spate of illness it gradually increased from 80s,90s and kept going up to about 160 then they worked out I had sepsis. I asked DH for my fit bit after the operation and it recorded 180bpm!

55-65 now postpartum, I'm 34 female & usually quite fit and healthy (not so much at the moment!) x

When I was seriously fit in my 40s, my resting newrt rate was 42. Now I am chronically ill
And overweight and it is 65 and in some days 75 (the illness raises it).

Mine is normally between 59 and 64bpm at rest and I'm nowhere near as fit as I want to be. I'm currently trying to lose around 2/3 stone.

Apple Watch says 50 but it's sometimes lower. GP says they are not accurate. I feel fine so have stopped worrying. I'm not fit or thin.

According to Garmin, it's slightly up at 49. At other points of my menstrual cycle it's marginally lower at 47. It does tend to be a decent indicator of illness or excessive tiredness.

I have a Garmin because I exercise regularly, and fit people with low heart rates are more likely to know about it. People with health issues and high resting rates are likely to get that picked up for medical reasons. Average people who aren't into sport are probably least likely to know or be particularly interested.

DS has a low heart rate. When he had obs in hospital, everyone taking them for the first time asked cautiously if he does much sport. They were enthusiatically told his 5k pb. The HCPs were then relieved. 58 is rather low for a child, but he is very fit and always on the go.
