On my own having some lunch.
Nice to have a bit of peace.

Sounds bloody brilliant. Have a pint of shandy for me!

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 06/09/2024 12:57

Edited. Stupid double post

mrsjg · 06/09/2024 12:57

Ohhh jealous what are you having?

Dfg15 · 06/09/2024 13:00

Wetherspoons are great. The one local to me is lovely

WheresMySupportCat · 06/09/2024 13:02

I like our local wetherspoons. Really nice New Zealand Sauvignon blanc- decent pizzas for the kids and my favourite chicken wings.

IamAutumn · 06/09/2024 13:04

What price the double Gin Or double Scotch now OP. Not been in one for a while.
Cheers

longdistanceclaraclara · 06/09/2024 13:06

Ooh, what are you having for lunch?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/09/2024 13:08

I absolutely adore the Wetherspoons vegan breakfast! Unlimited Lavazza coffee too.
Enjoy your peace and quiet!

Hoppinggreen · 06/09/2024 13:08

Sounds nice
Unfortunately the one in my town is awful

Likewise, I've never been in one that I'd ever want to return to, and the gurning Tim Martin doesn't add to the appeal.

Lol, that was first thought as well. I can't believe it when I see "the game" on Facebook when people put requests in for drinks to be bought via the app and sent to their table number.
Anyway, OP, hope you have a nice break/lunch. Bon appetite 😀

SwiftiesVSLestat · 06/09/2024 13:16

Ohh nice. We have a couple of nice ones near us.

last time I went I had the Korea bowl. Shame it came with chips not rice but it was decent.

There’s one near our offices so loads of people go for lunch. Especially in summer, it’s nice to sit outside. A quick and cheap meal and socialising all at the same time.

The one in my dds uni town is apparently good. Her and her friend love having tea there on the nights they do the pub quiz.

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2024 13:16

You lucky thing !
Cheers 🥂

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 06/09/2024 13:16

We went in one on Monday for our wedding anniversary, I'm still a cheap date after 29 years, chicken tikka masala and a glass of Pinot was about £13 I think, and lovely x

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2024 13:17

If it wasn't for the Brexiteer owner, I might be in one too Sad

SpiderGwen · 06/09/2024 13:20

There’s a lovely one in Harrogate; it’s hard to reconcile the splendid old building with the ‘pile em high sell em cheap’ vibe of the Brexit weirdo who owns it.

Nice cheap place for lunch.

Miyagi99 · 06/09/2024 13:21

Cheap booze and I recommend the veggie burger! Enjoy.

But do you know the political leanings of every other owner of every chain you frequent? Or even those of the people who own and manage your independent local pubs and restaurants? Probably not. On balance, I prefer to pay £3.64 for a glass of wine in ‘Spoons than £9.50 for a very similar glass of wine in a fancy indie, when I’d probably dislike the owner of the indie as well!

Ooh, I’ll have to try that!

To be fair though, he's the reason a lot of these buildings are still splendid old buildings.

I've got a lot of issues with the man, but the fact that he gives people with not much cash a chance to get OK quality food and drink in a nice place earns him a few points in his favour

Same. Ours is where all the local alcoholics and drug dealers hang out

Noshowlomo · 06/09/2024 13:31

I love Wetherspoons and now my son does too. He likes the kids pizza and 12 extra onion rings. I love a jacket potato and a glass of fizz. It’s the little things 😂

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2024 13:35

@ComtesseDeSpair my local haunt is owned by a lovely couple who would be astonishing actors if they turned out to be arseholes. The staff loves them.

However, it is an eye watering price for wine, you're right there.
