Nice to have a bit of peace.

I love a spoons appreciation thread.

Their fruit and yoghurt medley is delicious and dogs aren't allowed in . Absolutely fabulous.

IMO there are many reasons to avoid a Wetherspoons.. them not allowing dogs is another one. Awful places.

Perroi · 06/09/2024 15:47

I did not know they were dog free! That's another reason to go. It feels like every cafe I've been to you are surrounded by dogs.

CrispsnDips · 06/09/2024 15:51

I popped into a really nice one (not in my home town) and a small glass of wine was TWO POUNDS FIFTY! I nearly fell off my bar stool! HAHA

The new one? @StarvingMarvin222 the one in Blanch is not at all nice so I haven't been.

The one in Abbey Street, I don'tind the blanch one but I like this one cause you can sit in peace.
Nobody bothers you.
Plus @€2.60 pints in this day and she is brilliant.

@ricenoodle

i think it’s great they don’t allow dogs! 😀

Love going for breakfast, I always order a bacon sandwich with a side of mushrooms to make it into a bacon and mushroom sandwich.

This is one of the main reasons they get my business. The dog people have got everywhere else! Why deny folks one single dog-free place. Has everywhere got to be full of stinky animals?

I 100% see the benefit of quiet peace for lunch. There must be other alternatives for the OP.

I still remember the outrage over how staff were treated during Covid and how people would never go there again.

Short memories.

Not sure what you mean, but I note that Tim Martin won a legal action where the Daily Mirror had falsely claimed he had sacked staff or told them to go work at Tescos during lockdown, where in fact he had said that if they wanted to work at Tescos he would understand. This was prior to the announcement of any government support.

@LlynTegid

it doesn’t sound to me as if she wants an alternative, she sounds perfectly happy!

Same. Ours is where all the local alcoholics and drug dealers hang out

We are probably neighbours. The ones in the nearest towns are fine.

XenoBitch · 06/09/2024 16:12

I love a Spoons. I like to spend a good few hours in them with a craft to do, and take advantage of the bottomless tea.
Am also very partial to the chicken jalfrezi with garlic naan too.

Cyclebabble · 06/09/2024 16:13

The App is super and the use of old buildings is also very innovative. I have occasion to visit Swindon to see relatives and their Spoons is the old cinema. Everyone drinks on the slope where the seats were. Nice place.

Roystonv · 06/09/2024 16:15

I'm retired, went to my first one in Oban last year and was impressed.

Me too lol 😆 😅

The Knight Templar was thriving bustling place back in the day. Banking hall.
It is very good of Mr Martin to keep the dogs out along with the underage drinkers where I am now. Both are pests in many places.

Grmumpy · 06/09/2024 16:20

The one in Ilfracombe is a very impressive building

Do you check the political leaning of every pub you go to….every hotel you go to….every shop you buy from….doubt it 🙄

That's not the point. The owner was so all over Johnson and Brexit no checking was necessary

Lifeomars · 06/09/2024 16:24

There are a fair few where I live, ranging from pleasant to hellish depending on their location. I don't care for Tim Martin, once saw him described as a Thundercat on meth which made me laugh.

BizzyMissy · 06/09/2024 16:25

Love Wetherspoons and v jealous. Sounds lovely- feel calm just reading your post op!

That will be the Savoy.
The other centre one (Sir Dan's) is a bit of a dive.
The Dockle Farmhouse is nicer than both. Is huge, and has a massive garden.

Is that the one near Temple Meads in Bristol?
I used to go to a book club there, but am not a fan of big open hall type pubs.

Crumpleton · 06/09/2024 16:29

I like a Spoons, always go for the bones less chicken basket.

Toilets areas in the ones I've been into are always incredibly large.

Only thing off putting for me are the blue floral plates.
