Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

Any party type of sports leggings or all sports leggings?

Lampan · 05/09/2024 22:51

What would he suggest women wear for jogging or the gym? Loose trousers?
When I wear leggings for running, the last thing on my mind is attracting men’s attention. Gross.

SquirrelBlue · 05/09/2024 22:52

I wear them because they're comfortable and practical. I don't tend to live my life around the male gaze despite what some men think

Pinknotpurple · 05/09/2024 22:57

Men always assume women dress to get their attention, I can't imagine why you think your dp is any kind of authority on why women choose clothing.

greatcoffeebadhair · 05/09/2024 22:58

When I started running 20 years ago you could buy decent jogging trousers that you don’t have to peel on and off. You know - the kind of things that men are allowed to wear. I absolutely think the running leggings that are now ubiquitous are designed so men can look at our bodies, but it’s not a choice that i have made: it’s impossible to buy ‘normal’ running joggers anymore.

StormingNorman · 05/09/2024 22:58

Scrunch butt leggings have definitely been designed to accentuate the arse. And I can’t think of any reason to do that other than for draw attention to it.

TooManyNiblings · 05/09/2024 22:58

I think OP means specifically the leggings which accentuate the bottom with lift and separate technology, not just bog standard leggings, and I agree with her DH.

Hopebridge · 05/09/2024 22:58

Comfortable and practical. He sounds a bit clueless sorry.

ZippyLimeSnake · 05/09/2024 22:59

I think it’s both. Obviously of course if you’re someone who gyms/runs ect this is the type of clothing you wear. Hoooooowever, some of the styles definitely are done to catch your eye. Like the scrunch bum leggings for instance, or the ones that really lift your bum & the way some of the marking are, again make the bum area look more obvious.

NewMe2024 · 05/09/2024 23:00

The ones that go up your bum? Yes. Normal leggings? Nope, they’re well suited to sports.

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 05/09/2024 23:01

I wear gym leggings to work out because I would look stupid in jeans.

Your dp is a dirty pervert who thinks he can look at other women because they are asking for it by wearing trousers. HTH.

Not2identifying · 05/09/2024 23:01

I had to stand around waiting for something recently and there was a young woman wearing them. She was just going about her everyday life and doing her job but...those leggings! I had to look away because if I didn't, I could see everything. It's a horrible fashion. I know 'modesty' is also about controlling women but very few men wear such garments (and I'm glad about that). We've still got a long way to go before we achieve equality.

Edit to add: I'm not talking about 'normal' leggings that were around years ago. There is a type of leggings (and I don't know what they are called) that specifically shape the bottom and it's unavoidably obvious.

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 05/09/2024 23:02

Also your name! Gym regret because you are made to wear overalls so that men don’t look at your arse?

Beepybopp · 05/09/2024 23:03

The ones that go up your bum crack and graze your anus? Yes. Definitely worn to get attention.

Regular leggings, no, given people of all shapes and sizes wear them.

Wishitsnows · 05/09/2024 23:08

Sounds like your DP spends time letching at random women going about their day

Portfun24 · 05/09/2024 23:11

Eh no I wear them to either exercise or because they are comfy and practical for kicking about in when I've errands to run. What a misogynistic view to believe that a woman wears something to be looked at.

fridaynight1 · 05/09/2024 23:19

Only a man would think a woman wearing sports leggings would be to attract (your DP's) attention.
I have a really way out there reason .. perhaps women wear them to do sports 🤔

OP I think you need to have a chat with your DP. He sounds nice 🙄

midgetastic · 05/09/2024 23:19

It's an interesting thing - everyone always thinks they choose just what they like with no reference to how others see them

But I think it's much more complex than that

Compare what women chose over what men chose to wear - men's running trousers such as ronhills are looser than leggings
Men's running shorts are looser

Many Women seem like to find leggings comfortable in a way men don't

I find them uncomfortable and I know that is partly as they show everything and at the same time I can think "oh don't I look good "

Women are brought up to value appearance more than men an it infects every choice we make

AloofFloof · 05/09/2024 23:19

Your husband sounds like a dickhead.

AloofFloof · 05/09/2024 23:20

Sorry partner. Easier to get rid of a partner at least and I suggest you do just that.

Pippifer · 05/09/2024 23:22

Why do men think everything women do is for them. Gross. Just let me have my leggings and hoodie and leave us alone.

buttonsB4 · 05/09/2024 23:23

I wear leggings to walk the dog as they fit easily into welly boots, are comfortable and if they get wet they don't feel as soggy as trousers/jeans.

I wear leggings to the gym to work out in as they're practical and suit the task.

If I stop off at the shops post-gym, I am in my leggings (& usually a sweaty mess).

At no point have I considered men looking at me because of my leggings 🙄

In summer though, wearing shorts, I do catch men looking, but when it's hot and I have menopausal sweats to contend with, I really couldn't give a fuck.

Why do men assume we dress for them??

fridaynight1 · 05/09/2024 23:24

The good news is - you're not married.

Your biology is sex oriented just as the man's is

You recognise that as well as the men seem to
