Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

I wear leggings a lot. I spend hours every day walking the dogs, I run, I work out, I garden a lot. They are comfortable and suit my lifestyle, they wash and dry quickly, as someone who lives somewhere incredibly wet and doesn't have a drier that makes them very practical.

I literally cannot remember the last time I wondered what a man thought of me, I can just about stand the man I have nevermind want to attract another one of the fuckers.

TheaBrandt · 05/09/2024 23:31

Sorry but those up the bum leggings are ridiculous and are surely worn to get men staring.

It's an interesting thing - everyone always thinks they choose just what they like with no reference to how others see them

But I think it's much more complex than that

Compare what women chose over what men chose to wear - men's running trousers such as ronhills are looser than leggings
Men's running shorts are looser

Many Women seem like to find leggings comfortable in a way men don't

I find them uncomfortable and I know that is partly as they show everything and at the same time I can think "oh don't I look good "

Women are brought up to value appearance more than men an it infects every choice we make

Men value appearance plenty.

They don't wear clothing generally associated with women so they won't be mistaken for women or assumed to be anything other than straight. Their clothing choices tend to leave no room for doubt of their sex or sexual orientation.

The market for men's grooming products has skyrocketed in recent years, and men's clothing is a huge market too.

AngeloMysterioso · 05/09/2024 23:38

I agree with the general consensus that regular leggings are practical and comfy, those fucking hideous wedgie bum leggings are purely to get people looking at your arse. Personally I always feel a bit bare in leggings so I will usually only wear them with a long jumper or hoodie or something that covers my bum.

sunnydays1364 · 05/09/2024 23:40

Gym leggings I think are comfortable and quite in fashion now. Although Ive noticed so many women at the gym now have them pulled up so high giving themselves an actual wedgy😂Surely it can't be comfortable?

Any party type of sports leggings or all sports leggings?

Yep party type ones are the worst 🫢

DopeyS · 05/09/2024 23:46

Ask him what he thinks about grey joggers that men wear? They clearly only wear them so they can tantalise women by revealing their packages..they're clearly not for comfort but just to attract women's attention.

Beepybopp · 05/09/2024 23:03

The ones that go up your bum crack and graze your anus? Yes. Definitely worn to get attention.

Regular leggings, no, given people of all shapes and sizes wear them.

This for sure

Maireadh · 05/09/2024 23:48

Leggings are very cheap, maybe only £5 a pair. You don’t have to try them on because they’re stretchy and they fit everyone. If you’re someone who doesn’t get out much, you can buy leggings at the local supermarket. They wash and dry easily, and don’t need ironing. They’re soft so if you have any type of tummy or leg pain they don’t press on it.

When I was pregnant I lived in leggings because they were the cheapest bottoms available. After my c section I still wore leggings because of the pain in my stomach. I wear leggings during my period because they’re easy to wash if I leak and they don’t hurt my tummy. My elderly mum wears leggings because they don’t hurt her varicose veins and she can get them on and off easily.

Lots of practical reasons to wear leggings, especially for elderly and disabled people. None of those reasons has anything to do with titillating men!

I think OP means specifically the leggings which accentuate the bottom with lift and separate technology, not just bog standard leggings, and I agree with her DH.

I totally agree.

KreedKafer · 06/09/2024 00:01

I actually did a little LOL to myself at the notion of anyone actually wanting to look at my wobbling arse in my leggings when I'm out for Couch To 5K run. I definitely don't wear my sports leggings to attract attention. If anything, I wear them to repel any human who strays into my path.

girljulian · 06/09/2024 00:03

Men wear leggings as well, I see men running in them all the time. Are they also trying to get your bloke to look at them?

Well yeah, but how many elderly/disabled/pregnant/menstruating women do you know who are wearing these monstrosities?

Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?
tillyandmilly · 06/09/2024 00:04

Ugh those horrible new style leggings that make your bum look ginormous! Yuk they look horrible!

Ger1atricMillennial · 06/09/2024 00:11

I wear them because they are comfortable and practical and because I can. They actually don't suit me (I have no arse to speak of).

I find men who wear a well tailored suit very sexually attractive, but I don't assume they are wearing for my attention. I also am able to appreciate and not let it distract me as I go throughout my day, because I am not 15.

BeautyPageantDropout · 06/09/2024 00:16

does it matter what your bloke thinks? (he's obv looking at bums tho) having a curvy ass is part of today's beauty standards, so maybe women who do 20k squats to get a peachy bum want to show it off.

you can spot the women who grew up within 1980s beauty standards by their revulsion at big curvy bums.

Seaside3 · 06/09/2024 00:16

The lift n separate ones are definitely worn to attract attention. They tend to be worn by ladies with glossy hair, perfect make up, toned abs and a manicure. Not judging, but let's not pretend they're for 'comfort' or exercise.

I don't think your husband is referring to the £5 asda ones which are thrown on to decorate the house/slouch around etc.
There are leggings, and there are 'leggings'.

Josette77 · 06/09/2024 00:20

So what if women do wear them for attention?
Can someone explain why that's bad?

I don't see women wanting to look and feel sexy as a bad thing.

I dress up sexy sometimes and I love it.

shuggles · 06/09/2024 00:23

Lampan · 05/09/2024 22:51

What would he suggest women wear for jogging or the gym? Loose trousers?
When I wear leggings for running, the last thing on my mind is attracting men’s attention. Gross.

When I go to the gym, I wear a loose and scruffy pair of shorts. They are comfortable and give me freedom to move and sweat. I don't understand why tight clothing would be preferable- tight clothing is inherently less comfortable because it feels tight on parts of the body, constrains movement, and makes it more difficult to sweat.

Itsjustmeheretoday · 06/09/2024 00:24

I think it's a fair comment, depening on the type of leggings and the whole ensemble. The bum scrunch ones are definitely after attention

MissTrip82 · 06/09/2024 00:27

Your husband can rest assured that at no point in my 45 years have I considered him when selecting my workout pants.

I encourage him to focus on his workout rather than other people’s backsides. He’ll be surprised by how much his fitness improves.

‘Not judging’ 😂😂😂😂😂😂

In a post dripping with misogyny.

LoserWinner · 06/09/2024 00:37

I wear gym leggings if I’m going to the gym, oddly enough. I don t give a toss what passers by think about them, male or female. I just can’t be arsed to spend time at the start and end of a gym session getting changed. When I get home, I have a shower and change into normal clothes. The OP’s husband is just weird if he’s leering at women’s bums.

benefitstaxcredithelp · 06/09/2024 00:41

Off topic a bit but I do wonder if polyester (which is made from petroleum based chemicals) is a good thing for women to wear so close to the skin (especially during exercise) with regularity ie most leggings especially gym type ones….

@Seaside3 has valid points. Misogyny is becoming such an overused word
