Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

Scrunch bum leggings are awful, hopefully they'll be short lived and we can all look back and laugh/cringe soon. There's no way they're not worn to get other people to look (whether on purpose or by unfortunate accident - that's you, woman in front of me in Pilates on Tues!)

Sorry editted as replied to wrong post. yes, scrunch bum leggings are grim.

I work out really hard sometimes for 90 to 120 minutes (Hyrox training). I sweat like a shower and I move quickly. I don't want anything flapping. I like tight leggings and a tight tank top - they hold everything in, and are like a second skin. I can put them on and just gooooo!

And do you find the scrunchie elastic going up your arse crack helps with that? Or could it be that you are not wearing the leggings the OP is referring to?

What would he suggest women wear for jogging or the gym? Loose trousers?
When I wear leggings for running, the last thing on my mind is attracting men’s attention. Gross.

I don't think OP or her DH are talking about people at the gym.

saraclara · 06/09/2024 07:45

serenavanderwoodsenn · 06/09/2024 01:59

But SO WHAT IF THEY DO?
Seriously, if a woman does wear something which she wants to be admired in - so what?
This isn’t the 1800s. If a woman wants attention then more power to her. Why is it still considered wrong for women to actually want the attention? Men have been doing it since the beginning of time

So what if they do? Then they can't complain if men stare at them.

If you wear scrunch bum leggings, you want people to look at your bum. So don't then complain when they do.

Jeeze, even I can't help starting at women wearing them. But not because I'm attracted to them.

Alongthepineconetrail · 06/09/2024 07:45

There are leggings I've seen recently which look like there's a thong worn or stitched over the bottom. So definitely designed to attract attention, I've noticed people do a double take.

I don't understand how these can be comfortable and practical than normal leggings.

Rookieuser123 · 06/09/2024 07:46

Men are actually delusional 🤣 majority of women dress for themselves.

I wear gym leggings/clothes majority of the time they’re easy to throw on when I’m WFH, not much thought it needed on making them match, wash easy, dress easy. They are so comfy

YellowAsteroid · 06/09/2024 07:47

Calm down @HeadNorth The OP titled her post "sports leggings." That's what I wear. And if I wear the ones that accentuate my glutes, is that a problem?

Do you even lift, bro? 😂

Alongthepineconetrail · 06/09/2024 07:48

People are being deliberately obtuse here, the op is referring to scrunch bum leggings which are different to normal leggings. The scrunch bum leggings separate and accentuate the bum cheeks. How can they be anything other than attention seeking?

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/09/2024 07:49

Who cares. We all look a sweaty mess at the end of a work out anyway. There's only so much the leggings can do and they certainly are not strong enough to override that!

Baggy clothing is awful fir working out. I'm one of those shorts and a crop top wankers now. Mainly cos I get so hot I can't stand wearing any more layers than necessary. A sports bra covers what it needs to. Anyone who has the time or energy to look or judge clearly isn't working out hard enough and should perhaps concentrate on why they are at the gym rather than at what someone else is doing or wearing.

Custardpiechart · 06/09/2024 07:49

TooManyNiblings · 05/09/2024 22:58

I think OP means specifically the leggings which accentuate the bottom with lift and separate technology, not just bog standard leggings, and I agree with her DH.

’lift and separate’ Yuk! Gross.

NunyaBeeswax · 06/09/2024 07:50

Scrunch Bum Leggings...

You'll never get me in them, I see no practical positives from wearing them.

They just draw attention, everyone's attention, to a particular part of the body... And makes them think you're arse is eating your trews.

She clarified in her last post that she’s talking about padded ones. She had to google scrunch bum ones so it’s definitely not them that she’s referring to.

The original post just talked about leggings so it’s easy to see why people have missed the detail.

Sheaintheavyshesmymother · 06/09/2024 07:51

i mean leggings in general no. Myself and my lesbian friends wear them to work out, I can assure you none of us have any interest in men looking at us while we do so. They’re just comfy and practical.

those bum lift ones though are a bit saucy eh? But I would say that once they’re in the general fashion it can be quite hard to avoid. You just pop into Nike women’s wear and there are almost no baggy shorts, just lots of crop tops, sports bras and a few pairs of leggings, much of which have these odd mesh panels…maybe hidden in here is some bum lift technology? What I’m saying is it can be hard to avoid more outrageous clothes sometimes if it slips into the everyday shops.

anyway, I think men like to pump this narrative of women wanting to be stared at because x,y,z to let themselves off the hook for being letches but if it’s not bum sculpting leggings it’s going to be something else. I often wear baggy men’s shorts to work out too but aapparently my bare legs are an invitation for creeps. a good male friend told me this is because some men go wild for the possibility that a skirt or baggy short will lift up in motion, the suspense can be all consuming. Another friends brother in law has a very stressful life limiting camel toe fetish.

so TLDR: We can’t win.

Of course its not a problem, but the scrunchie element is obviously not to aid your lifting. If you are proud of your glutes, show them off if you wish. But that is what you are doing - the scrunch is to show your arse but if that is what you want then that is your perogative. Women are allowed to want to look sexy and don't need to pretend otherwise or apologise for it.

I wear leggings a lot. I spend hours every day walking the dogs, I run, I work out, I garden a lot. They are comfortable and suit my lifestyle, they wash and dry quickly, as someone who lives somewhere incredibly wet and doesn't have a drier that makes them very practical.

I literally cannot remember the last time I wondered what a man thought of me, I can just about stand the man I have nevermind want to attract another one of the fuckers.

Ha ha !! This is me too !! Hilarious !

EspanaPorfavor · 06/09/2024 07:55

I love my leggings but. I don’t feel very sexy in them. They’re comfortable, compressive, hold my phone in place so it doesn’t move around when I run, sweat wicking, no chafe, no riding up…

when im on my period I wear period pants which show under leggings so I’m forced into baggy sweats or looser running shorts and I really appreciate the comfort of my leggings then.

scrunch butt is another monster entirely, but normal leggings, he is wrong.

TicTac80 · 06/09/2024 07:55

I wear leggings because they are comfortable and practical. I have ones for the gym/running and the more robust hiking ones. I often wear longer tunic tops or dresses over leggings (I prefer them over tights). I certainly don't wear them in the hope that a guy is staring at my figure!!

So a woman wearing anything that accentuates curves is because she's dressing for male attention?! Ffs get a grip.

To everyone on their high horse - OP mentioned specifically ‘those leggings’

Meaning this type https://uk.ryderwear.com/products/extreme-scrunch-leggings-olive?variant=40588850462855&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADphGCSCgVvG_ScWaqUeQ8e4y4CDJ

Sooo!?! Women can wear what they like, why they like, when they fucking like!

Sorry but that made me think, "Is this the start of a porn film?"

Scene one: Lesbians working out together.

OrlandointheWilderness · 06/09/2024 07:58

Yeah, these are a fashion thing. I'm not sure about comfy - I'd spend the entire day pulling them out of my arse!! And as for sexy, when my ample size 22 bum is in them I suspect sexy is the last thing I'd look 😂.

But yes. They are specifically designed to show off your arse. And I'm not surprised men look - tbh I bloody do when they catch you out as they are very hard to miss!

Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?
MushMonster · 06/09/2024 07:58

So, the crunchy butt ones or designs around the bottom area are quite for looks indeed. It depends on the person, I think. Many will wear them for their own benefit, to look good to themselves, highlight that part of their body, same as you put some eye make up on. Some men do not get this.....
As you say padding, may they have been cycling? Because they are likely to be wearing culottes underneath, which are padded indeed!
