Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

Your DP is a twat and a creep. Women aren't desperate for male attention and his attitude suggests he thinks they are. What do you see in him?

Westfacing · 06/09/2024 04:38

I walk in the park almost every day and see many women jogging and exercising. Have yet to see any scrunch bum leggings but have seen a few 'false' bums and they are not a good look.

Thebellofstclements · 06/09/2024 04:45

If the shops that make the best leggings, eg. Sweaty Betty made decent t-shirts that covered the arse, then I would disagree with your husband. They don't though, it's all tight, and I wear my husband's t-shirts for jogging as a result. Fed up of being stared at.

Edingril · 06/09/2024 04:49

No idea, but how many women spend a lot of time. money and effort doing things to themselves so they can show of their bodies?

MagneticSquirrel · 06/09/2024 06:06

Leggings are for practicality. Men also wear leggings and lycra for sports like running and cycling because then you don’t get any annoying flapping of fabric around ankles or legs when moving legs quickly.

Leggings are also easier when doing a leg work out using machines because they don’t scrunch as get on/off machine or move legs. They are thinner than joggers so good if trying to keep bar close to shins when doing RDLs with a bar. They also wick sweat so more comfy over a long workout when you get hot

Generally only the men I see wearing joggers and not shorts or leggings in the gym are those focusing on upper body workouts only and not intense cardio.

Yes some leggings are more bum enhancing than others but if you have a nice bum and figure why not show it off to everyone anyway?! What’s wrong with that? How is it different to having nice hair or nails on display? Or wearing makeup to accentuate your face? Or just brushing your hair to show you care a bit about your self care!?

Also if your DP doesn’t realise leggings are practical for the gym he might need to rethink his workouts!

GuestFeatu · 06/09/2024 06:07

Women wear workout leggings to workout. HTH.

HamSad · 06/09/2024 06:36

Your DP needs to fuck off with that misogynist nonsense.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 06/09/2024 06:36

Euh. I wear leggings because I go weightlifting many days of the week and if I wore tight shorts I'd be looking for more attention and if I wore loose shorts I'd be flashing men deliberately, and joggers are too hot and thin loose trousers are frankly a frigging no for deadlifts, so the only solution I can see is to become invisible like I'm supposed to as a woman. Your husband is a problem, and your assumption that he's maybe right is rather depressing to hear from another woman.

serenavanderwoodsenn · 06/09/2024 01:59

But SO WHAT IF THEY DO?
Seriously, if a woman does wear something which she wants to be admired in - so what?
This isn’t the 1800s. If a woman wants attention then more power to her. Why is it still considered wrong for women to actually want the attention? Men have been doing it since the beginning of time

This 💯

Comfortable and practical. He sounds a bit clueless sorry.

He sounds more as though he assumes that women make every decision based on getting male attention.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 06/09/2024 06:43

I wear leggings because they are comfortable when I’m sat around at home and aid movement when I’m out and about.

I definitely don’t do it for men.Why can’t they all frog off and let us wear what we want?

SwiftiesVSLestat · 06/09/2024 06:52

How is your Dp an authority on what women wear and why?

and why is it an issue if they are wearing them for that reason?

Women will wear the clothes they wear for many different reasons. Some might wear them because they feel they look good in them and not care wether others, especially men, agree. Some might wear them because they are comfy. Some might wear them because they are the only thing clean that morning or what was easy to grab. Some might wear them because their partner likes them and then don’t care what other men think. Or because they are practical for their plans for the day. Or a million other reasons.

But so what if the reason is that a woman wears them for other people to admire their figure. Why is that wrong?

I assume that’s his come back when you have caught him staring at women’s arses. If he is doing it so obviously and it’s upsetting you and he continues to do it, he is the issue. Not what women are wearing.

PuddlesPityParty · 06/09/2024 06:58

I wear activewear leggings e.g. my protein ones sometimes out of the gym just because they’re comfy and I think seen as more stylish or acceptable to wear in public that normal leggings 🤔

GymRegret · 06/09/2024 06:59

Sorry, I fell asleep after I posted!

The leggings I'm referring to are the ones that are designed to amplify the bottom area. They almost look like they have padding in. I thought it might be to make sitting on a rowing machine more comfortable or something like that.

I've google the ruffled ones and they're on a different level! In my opinion not practical nor nice to look at. Looks almost painful.

I guess men wear shorts so women can ogle their legs?

Yeah those ones are made to accentuate the buttocks - not for a comfier rowing session!

When I started running 20 years ago you could buy decent jogging trousers that you don’t have to peel on and off. You know - the kind of things that men are allowed to wear. I absolutely think the running leggings that are now ubiquitous are designed so men can look at our bodies, but it’s not a choice that i have made: it’s impossible to buy ‘normal’ running joggers anymore.

Do you mean Ron Hills?
You can still buy those

stayathomer · 06/09/2024 07:09

Not for men but I do think leggings (wrongly) make you feel like you’re in better shape than you are- when I wear anything like that and then catch a picture of myself I cringe, whereas they feel lovely and feel like they fit nicely so I glide along in them feeling I don’t look half bad when I wear them😅

mightymam · 06/09/2024 07:12

@BeautyPageantDropout yeah, alright Dave... 🙄

sandgrown · 06/09/2024 07:16

The arse crack leggings some women wear are the equivalent of a man walking round in ballet tights. It would be hard not to notice and a look only a few people can carry off .

TheReturnOfFeathersMcGraw · 06/09/2024 07:16

Ottersmith · 06/09/2024 04:24

Funny how clothing that empowers women also coincidently make them look bare arsed. Women wearing bare arsed leggings, don't you feel like you've been tricked?

This.

ChanelBoucle · 06/09/2024 07:18

Seems that this thread is divided between those who are determined that leggings are only for practical use (you could argue that once upon a time, they were…) and those that are aware of more recent trends.

Op, if your dh was referring to ‘all’ women, including those in cheap, slightly saggy and baggy at the knee market stall leggings, who are clearly wearing them for practicality and comfort, then he was being a misogynistic creep.

If however he was referring to the type of woman who is typically young, well groomed, toned and aware of being sexually attractive, in those butt clenching leggings that have been designed to accentuate, usually worn with a cropped top and often worn around places like IKEA and the supermarket and not just the gym, then he may have a point.

My dd is one of the aforementioned young women, she is very aware of how good her bum looks, to the point that she likes to critique it at all angles and take ‘progress pics’ of it. She likes to adorn it in the types of leggings that show it off to its full bouncy pertness which, in her words, ‘make my butt look sooooo peachy’.

It would be highly disingenuous to deny that some - not all - women wear a certain type of legging to show off their bottom. Whether they are doing it to impress men, women, or women and men, or just because they like to feel confident and good in what they’re wearing, is anyone’s guess.

But let’s not pretend that it doesn’t play into the hands of the patriarchy just a little bit.

Oh bless you OP. That's very sweet. No, that's not the purpose of the padding and ruching in the types of leggings that you mention Grin

The only padded ones I've seen are for cycling in
Luckily my arse is bountiful
Padding not required 😜

It’s all the man’s problem surely?
