So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

Well I think they’re amazing. Love the bickering and arguing. Never thought they’d get back together. All my family will try for tickets. I have grown men sons. They will try. My sister and brother in law (who saw them in the 90s in Lille) will try. The songs are genius. The relationship between them is fascinating. ❤️ Oasis

Meganssweatycrotch · 26/08/2024 12:40

Tbf, I’d do it for the cash too.

caramac04 · 26/08/2024 12:53

Love them. Hoping to get tickets for 3 generations of fans in my family

@AmadeustheAlpaca

My grown up children alll like Oasis they are not just for middle aged white men......

Yeah this. ^ I found that comment very odd. That poster must be thinking of Status Quo!

@RedToothBrush

It was male dominated but it's funny how female fans have been completely erased from the history of the band.

Yeah it's very odd, because back in the day (mid 1990s) at least two thirds of the Oasis fans I knew were women and girls.

@BakedBeansforabrain

At least it would make a change from bloody Coldplay!

LOL at this! 😆 I feel bad about this, but I find Coldplay crushingly boring!

I do think Viva la Vida is a banging choon, but apart from that I can take them or leave them. Would never buy one of their albums. Oasis though? Different story! They had a number of great albums! I also really love how you can hear Liam's Manc accent in some of the songs! Smile

What is your problem OP. You also keep referencing them as 'white males' why are you mentioning the colour of their skin?

Hmmm yeah this! Imagine if someone posted something like this replacing 'white' with any other skin colour. Hmm

RedToothBrush · 26/08/2024 13:12

Certainly in sixth form the thing was Take That v Oasis much more than Oasis v Blur...

SpanielPaws · 26/08/2024 13:20

I wasn't surprised hearing it, I think this has been on the cards for some time now they're both older and hopefully wiser and Noel has an expensive divorce to recover financially from. A short run of concerts would be the right way to do it - but I still think i'd rather see Noel solo as he's an amazing songwriter. Liam always has been and always will be a raging twat.

Messen · 25/08/2024 22:50

Blur were a class act, looking back now. They aren’t in my top 20 but they are musically pretty skilled. and they’ve gone on to develop musically,

Ahh is this a north/south divide maybe!

I do love oasis, but I'm from the north and perhaps it is more of a northern thing?

I definitely think there is a northern element to it.

XFM Manchester was built off the back of the Manchester music scene and despite attempts to commercialise and kill the station it eventually phoenixed and has spawned XS because there was commercial viability to run it because it had a base which was attractive to advertisers particularly with internet based options to broadcast now (simplified and abbreviated version of what actually happened but it makes the point well enough).

The music scene in London was very different to the one in Manchester even during the peak of Britpop. It had a totally different vibe.

XS has demonstrated a longevity to certain bands that I don't think exists within the south tbh. (And this includes a lot of non Manchester bands - it's an indie hangover).

GellerYeller · 26/08/2024 13:45

I’m sure that once Take That reunited, Robbie admitted it had been basically ‘good for business’ to slate Gary when he was promoting his solo stuff.
Same here, Noel defaults to slating Liam and whoever else is the current big thing (Lewis Capaldi,The 1975) to generate publicity.

I maintain they’ll need watertight contracts so they can’t fall out and cancel but any hint of tension and you can be sure it will get blown up and reported.

I’m looking forward to the interviews and inevitable behind the scenes documentary.
This must have been in planning for months, if not much longer.

dapsnotplimsolls · 26/08/2024 13:51

It's probably taken months to draw up a contract. I bet there'll be massive penalties if they don't do every show.

GellerYeller · 26/08/2024 13:53

Also I wish the media would stop parroting the narrative that Noel’s ex wife Sara McDonald was wholly responsible for keeping a reunion from happening. Why demonise a woman when there are so many variables to the situation.
Shades of Yoko Ono here (and who was very much NOT the cause of The Beatles’ split but was a convenient scapegoat for the media).

MugPlate · 26/08/2024 13:53

Love them, really happy and will try for tickets.

HungryLittleCrocodile · 26/08/2024 13:56

Yeah, I am from the North Midlands, but my family (mum's side,) were from Yorkshire. She and her brother came down here from Halifax (with their my grandparents) when they were 5 and 7 y.o. So his parents were proper Yorkshire folk. Smile I LOVED the accent that my grandparents had.

I feel a real affinity with Yorkshire now, and 'The North' in general, and bizarrely feel like a Northerner myself, (it's in't blood!) Grin ... Even though the start of 'The North' is about an hour's drive from me, I still feel like a bit of a Northerner. I love the place and regularly go there. I also enjoy visiting Liverpool and Manchester too, and Sheffield and Blackpool! I know Blackpool gets panned as a 'bit rough' but I have such fond memories of many trips there. Smile

DeidreRasheed · 26/08/2024 14:00

Noel's the biggest prick of his generation. Another Morrisey.

No one rivals Morrissey for being a prick.

Sorry.

Abouttthat · 26/08/2024 14:01

It just popped up on my tiktok where Liam threw his award into the crowd and walked off like a cocky twat... then when Peter kay came to the podium and said "what a nobhead". 🤣🤣🤣

MugPlate · 26/08/2024 14:09

Some of the jokes on X are making me lol

DeidreRasheed · 26/08/2024 14:14

Liam has mellowed and even has respect for what you may call modern artists but Noel still thinks he's the Messiah and everyone else is worthless.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 26/08/2024 14:16

I detest the casual anti white racism on Mumsnet and in the media, there are some very distasteful examples of it on this thread, imagine if someone said this about other races. All these deluded people who think they are cool.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/08/2024 14:43

They write and perform catchy tunes! Everyone knows the words. I saw them years ago and they were shite (before all the big gigs). Liam looked bored.

Would I get tickets again - yes, because it would be a great night. However I suspect the price will be beyond me and it will be full of 16-25 year olds who are mortgage free!

No one gives a shit about any of this…..they just like the music…whenever either of them are at festivals I attend, I usually go watch…..just to listen to the old oasis songs ….just love ‘em

So fat 50 year old men aren’t allowed to have music they enjoy? Would it be different if they were slim or if they were young?
