So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

I'll be going but to a European show rather than UK as I find them much more relaxed.

Yes they did have their gobshitey moments but they've mellowed a bit.

Liam's last album was really good, yea mainly co-written.

Noel is not "talentless".

Will Bonehead be there?

I'd like to know what the insurance premiums on the tour being completed without any bust ups.

Going to a show outside the UK is a really good call as it will avoid a lot of the dickheadery that's very much British.

Who is buying those tickets?

45 year olds with more money than sense? Their poor offspring who’ve grown up thinking this is music? Gawd.

It is music and Iiked them ,it's a question of taste really isn't it ,I saw them in concert about 25 years ago I thought they were brilliant ,
Also I had a bit of thing for Liam ,and his mean and moody persona.

This. One of the most overrated bands ever.

Nah, that would be Queen...utter shite.

TizerorFizz · 26/08/2024 09:39

Queen 300 million record sales, Oasis 75 million. Oasis obviously been going for less time but it’s a bit monotonous to listen to. U2 cracked the USA. Makes a huge difference. 175 million sales.

Personally, I think that sometimes it's best to leave memories of your youth where they are. My teenage son was begging me to go to see Guns N Roses with him a couple of years ago but I didn't want to. I was a big fan in my youth but I don't want to see overweight ageing rockstars who haven't quite got it any more - I'd rather remember them in their prime. Of course that's at least in part because I'm now an overweight middle aged woman who most definitely hasn't got anything any more and I don't really want to be reminded of that, but I think good memories should maybe stay that way.
I guess the Oasis crowd won't be quite as decrepit as me, but not far off so I hope they're not too disappointed if the band, and their own ability to party aren't what they were! I was never a fan (The Verve were far better in my opinion)and I wouldn't go to watch Oasis if they were paying me, but I bet plenty of fans will buy tickets. There are loads of artists who I think really should call it a day who are still touring and charging huge amounts for their tickets, so there's obviously a demand. This is no different really. I can't get excited but it doesn't bother me either.

This is true I saw Guns and Roses when I was pregnant with my oldest and he's 18 at Xmas even at this point Axl wasn't looking his best
And he was such a fine figure of a man back in the day.

Snackpocket · 26/08/2024 09:43

I’ll be trying for tickets! Don’t care what other people think of them, loved them in my teens and over the last few years it’s been great seeing other Britpop era bands and reliving the glory days!

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/08/2024 09:46

Beezknees · 26/08/2024 06:26

You could say this about any band though. Do you think the same about people who go to see the ABBA experience, or the many 80s bands that still tour and perform?

I do indeed feel the same way about any band who cynically reunite having sworn off ever doing such a thing. It's a massive U-turn and smacks of desperation.

dontforgetme · 26/08/2024 09:52

This is good, the less people who want to buy tickets means I have more of a chance of getting my hands on one!

NyeRobey · 26/08/2024 09:53

I love Oasis.
I would love to go.
Yes I am an old codger but that is why they are so much the soundtrack to my youth.

Really surprised that so many are being so scathing about them. People who get to the top in their profession generally are quite talented (assuming they aren't being manufactured a la Simon Cowell). Whether that's Taylor Swift or Michael Jackson (neither of whose music I particularly like) or Blur or Oasis.

You've the same chance as me! I'll fight you for them what with us Oasis fans being so macho and rough! I'm already warming up my 'refresh button' finger in anticipation!

Ha! Is that not the very definition of anyone performing in the public eye? Performers need attention or they'll be performing to nobody.

I like their music. I wonder if the OP would like to discuss talentless black macho males. I'm fed up with "white " being used as an insult.

forgotusername · 26/08/2024 10:35

I'm in my early 30's so not exactly my era but I do love oasis. Yes Noel is up his own arse but what successful musician isn't really ?
Would be great if the rumours are true and if they play glasto. I wouldn't even attempt to get tickets though, you'd see more on the tv at home !!

Babbahabba · 26/08/2024 10:45

I liked both Oasis and Blur back in the day before I moved onto heavier music. Both had good anthemic catchy songs. I liked that Oasis were working class lads from Manchester - a lot of snobbery on this thread.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 26/08/2024 10:49

Don't Look Back in Anger is one of the best songs ever written and Oasis are part of the soundtrack to my life. I think there's a huge amount of snobbery because they are from an ordinary working background and aren't slick and smooth in interviews. I'm beginning to wonder if Noel's privately educated recent ex is posting on this thread and wants to add her thoughts on them. Before anyone jumps on me, there's nothing wrong with private education.

I've been in love with Liam for about 28 years (in another time or space, maaaaybeeeeeee we could have been together ❤️) so I'll be queueing for tickets, definitely.

Oh my god.

What attracts you to him?!

I don't think it's snobbery at all.

I think the disdain is (partly) because they often came across as dickheads. I do think it's an act though, mostly, as I have see Liam a few times 'being himself' on Gogglebox etc, and he seems like a good laugh/like a decent bloke. Noel is probably OK too deep down.

Also, it seems rather trite and annoying that they have had this huge rift for 15+ years, and hated each other (Liam even said on Jonathan Ross last year they were NEVER going to speak again,) and now conveniently they are friends again when it suits.

I also really liked them back in the day, and think they made some of the best songs of the 1990s. I aIso had 4 or 5 albums and liked quite a number of their songs. However, I am indifferent to their reunion and won't be going to see them. (I guess I wasn't a superfan.) 🤔

Same with Take That. Loved them in the 1990s, but couldn't be arsed with them when they got back together. A few decent songs emerged then but I wasn't fussed. I think Take That should have been left in the past. Same with Oasis IMO.

Agree about Don't Look Back In Anger though. Amazing song. Never get sick of hearing it.

terracottafarm · 26/08/2024 11:31

What is your problem OP. You also keep referencing them as 'white males' why are you mentioning the colour of their skin?

Rumour is that Noel's ex was part of the rift.

As soon as they split there was talk of a reunion being much more likely - not because of the cost of a divorce, but because she had particular problems with Liam.

Whether that's true or not (and let's face it, she's an easy target to blame) I don't know but certainly talk of a reunion have ramped up since the split and Liam has made it known for some time that he was open to the idea.

There's also been talk that Peggy was keen for the boys to make up as she's not been in the best of health.

So I suspect there are a combination of factors behind the scenes beyond the money.

DH has always joked that the rift always ramped up whenever either one of them had a new album out and they used it for publicity. I suspect it's completely true tbh which also brings into question how serious the argument has been in the last few years anyway.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 26/08/2024 12:00

@HungryLittleCrocodile and @RedToothBrush Good posts. I'd like to see them as for me it was always about the music and not their personalities. The nineties were, for many people, a very musically iconic time and there's a lot of nostalgia about Oasis potentially reforming. I saw the Eagles a few years ago and although they are nothing like the young lads who formed a band over fifty years ago the music was still great. There seems to be a dearth of recently formed rock bands - if anyone can suggest any new rock music to listen to, I'd love to hear it.
My grown up children alll like Oasis they are not just for middle aged white men......

Last time I checked I was not male.

I was what people would call a 'superfan'. I was reading Oasis fanzines back in the day. There were plenty of women who saw Oasis - I met a few including one who became a good friend for a long time. I was in it for the music but there were plenty who were there because they fancied the pants off either Noel or Liam particularly earlier on in their career. There were loads of Oasis magazines with posters just like your teen heartthrob boybands of the time. I took the coach to London for Earls Court in 1995 from Manchester and about a third of the bus were probably female.

It was male dominated but it's funny how female fans have been completely erased from the history of the band.

Oasis at Glasto would probably be great in all fairness.

At least it would make a change from bloody Coldplay
