Small but weirdly pleasing things.

We all love popping the lid on a jar of coffee, hot chocolate or similar thing. And everybody enjoyed the feeling of running a nail down the silvery finger crevice of a Kit Kat. What other things are there that bring small strange joy?

I love driving down a motorway or duel carriageway and having my side of the road go off on it's own away from the other half. "See you later Southbound losers!". It feels slightly adventurous.

When you manage to suck all the chocolate off a Malteaser without giving in to the urge to bite it.

Havingasmashingtime · 24/08/2024 21:13

Cutting my kids finger & toe nails

legalseagull · 24/08/2024 21:14

Same lid popping. Also the first scoop in a pristine new Nutella / Jam

Beating the cheating bastard Droid at Classic Words (online Scrabble game). I'm sure it has the pick of all the tiles in the bag every turn, while I'm working with just seven. 😠 So good to beat the fucker!

Having a watch mark tan line

Making footprints in fresh snow. Opening a new bag of fresh ground coffee.

UtterlyOtterly · 24/08/2024 21:53

Getting all the peel off an orange in one piece.

I hate getting those bloody lids off the coffee jars!

Pouring boiling water over a big lump of frozen peas in a saucepan

Watering my plants. And imagining how grateful they are I look after them . Unlike my teens...
Seeing plants changing is very satisfying..
Unlike teens.. Growth =expense!!

Driving into a parking space and the one on the other side of the aisle has just vacated theirs so you get to park nose out on that side.

A good drying day. This makes me unbelievably happy.

Opening a new bar of soap.

A bluebell wood.

When my very nervous dog does a head-on pass with another dog without barking. (I try and avoid this at all costs but occasionally we get caught out)

Finding a work pen thats the perfect fit, grip, ink consistency, glides smoothly over paper..

Thurien · 24/08/2024 22:07

Some things are more ‘weirdly pleasing’ if they are larger rather than small.

Like a Sunday morning shit, for example.

The feeling of freedom that comes from driving home on the motorway and knowing that if I choose to I can drive to Scotland (hundreds of miles away from my south western home) and none of my family will mind.

They might think I’m crazy but they’ll say “Good on ya Mum! Have fun!”

It’s heady stuff not being answerable to anyone. Deep joy.

Oh yes! This resonates with me. An ink pen with a knib like butter. Deep joy.

We’ve got a hedgehog living in our garden, it makes me incredibly happy watching it wandering around in the evenings 🦔

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 24/08/2024 22:19

A small thing but dh bought us a cheap candle at Asda. It’s called coconut waters I think and smells so good. Had it on last two nights and just watching the flame dance makes me feel snuggly.

Cattery · 24/08/2024 22:21

The cat getting onto the pillow next to me, purring. Joy

walking on a really crunchy autumn leaf!

CalliopePlantain · 24/08/2024 22:29

Gross one - but for me it’s getting a huge flake of psoriasis off of my scalp with the nitty gritty in one piece.

Weird one but, editing a shitty photo until it looks awesome, and nothing like the original.

Typing in time to the song that's on.
