Small but weirdly pleasing things.

We all love popping the lid on a jar of coffee, hot chocolate or similar thing. And everybody enjoyed the feeling of running a nail down the silvery finger crevice of a Kit Kat. What other things are there that bring small strange joy?

I love driving down a motorway or duel carriageway and having my side of the road go off on it's own away from the other half. "See you later Southbound losers!". It feels slightly adventurous.

When the use by date on your milk is your birthday

When toddler hurls themselves for a cuddle and they don't manage to smash their skull into my face/teeth/collarbone or tits.

So a full on bodyslam of love but without the expected pain/injury on either of us (somehow it's mostly me that usually gets hurt)

The best feeling ever.

😁 I normally turn a bit sideways just before impact

Seeing motorway signs that read 'The North' etc make the journey feel like an epic quest rather than a slog.

Car transporters give me a small thrill.

Standing on a railway bridge when a fast train goes underneath.

Oh yes I have always felt that about those motorway signs too

CalicoPusscat · 25/08/2024 13:00

I've just put on a very hot wash with white vinegar and baking soda with an empty machine to clean it and feel oddly pleased with myself

Pyreneansylvie · 25/08/2024 13:07

The way my puppy looks at me first thing in the morning.
The silence that heavy snowfall brings.
A big mug of tea after a winter walk.
The first page of a new book.
Hearing a raven cronk.

The cat getting onto the pillow next to me, purring. Joy

Ooh yes! Just cats purring in general makes me very happy.

BurntBroccoli · 25/08/2024 14:11

Pouring the last bit of the Fairy liquid into a new bottle.

BurntBroccoli · 25/08/2024 14:21

Not the prettiest of visions but squeezing a spot or blackhead and it just pops without any effort!

Oh yes! This resonates with me. An ink pen with a knib like butter. Deep joy.

Oh please share the brand names. I am always on the look out for that elusive pen.

Yes, or when they tuck their noses into your ear while they are purring to give that deep, full body vibration, as if they want you to feel the same ecstasy from purring that they do.

Meadowwild · 25/08/2024 14:26

When the recipe calls for 50g of butter or 100g of cheese and you cut it and get the weight exactly right. I want to do a lap of honour around the kitchen when that happens.

TeabySea · 25/08/2024 14:36

Me 😁

I love sitting in our little conservatory, surround by trees on 3 sides, when its pouring with rain and the dog is snuggled up against me. It's so cosy. It's also an amazing place to watch stars on a clear night as we have very dark skies.

Second this. Except I swap your dog for my cat 😃 bliss just sitting in the conservatory all cosy and warm when the rain is pouring down.

Thevelvelletes · 25/08/2024 14:38

Getting in the front door on a cold ,rainy day and being handed a warm towel.

pintsizeprincess · 25/08/2024 14:46

Very weird one but I love when I watch the beginning of the washing cycle. There is just something oddly satisfying seeing the clothes tumbling around all soapy and bubbly. I don't stand and watch the whole cycle honest! 😅

GymClassHeroes · 25/08/2024 14:59

Friday & Sat nights, dh not at work the next day, no nursery, just us as family all together. I love that feeling.

Using a fresh bar of soap in the shower.

Getting fresh pjs ready for my dcs after their bath.

Hoovering crumbs off the floor

Lightning a candle

Putting fresh sheets on the bed

The smell of my face cloth after I’ve washed my face. It’s a lovely clean warm soapy well.

Opening the curtains to see bright morning sun beaming through the windows

1st sip of fresh coffee in the morning

Sitting in the garden - dh pottering around with the plants, kids playing in the sandpit. I just close my eyes and feel so content & grateful.

Having a cup of tea with my mum & dad. I just love the simplicity of sitting in their kitchen & chatting.

Getting twinkly lights when you let someone pull out (especially a bus).

mondaytosunday · 25/08/2024 15:11

Oh yes love that spoon dive into an unopened coffee or Nutella jar!
I also have this really snuggly plush duvet set I use in winter. Every single night I get under it and say to myself 'like sleeping in a cloud'.

Everyone home safe in the house, curtains drawn, front door locked and the whirr of the washing machine going .. makes me so happy !

I like looking at my washing on the line outside.

Can't believe nobody has said writing with a biro on a banana yet.

And having a good scratch of an itch on the lower leg, which I remember hearing is scientifically the most satisfying place to scratch.

I love doing that! 😂

The sensation is excellent.

When your children put their arms round your neck for a cuddle.
Listening to the rain when you're in bed and the rest of your family are safe in bed.
A warm and windy day - perfect for line drying clothes
Being just about to get into bed and seeing your significant other on the other side of the bed asleep then looking at your space and knowing it's where you belong.

Especially when they put their little cheek on your shoulder.

I like the sudsy-pudsy bit, too.

Finding a work pen thats the perfect fit, grip, ink consistency, glides smoothly over paper..

Zebra gel pens 👍

sashh · 26/08/2024 05:11

When you put food out for hedgehogs and they take it in turns to come in to the garden to eat.

Netaporter · 26/08/2024 05:36

My little things:

  1. Fresh lychees - my fave and they are in season right now. Bonus points if the entire punnet has not one sour fruit
  2. freshly laundered sheets on the bed (that you didn’t have to change)
  3. Sunday mornings in bed with a pot of coffee, the newspapers and the sound of the woodpeckers outside.
  4. The sound of the owls calling just as you are dozing off at night time.
  5. When a new season of a fave tv show drops and you have time to watch it
