DH disappeared from campsite

My DH went to the shop to get some bits for tea (shop 10 minute drive away) about an hour and a half ago. He isn’t answering his phone. We are on a camp site in the middle of nowhere. How long do I give it before I start stressing? And what do I do? Something about being so far from home is making me panic more than I normally would.

Is he back yet?
With a load of items the OP never knew she wanted?

  • Scotland is in the UK, so they could be in Scotland
  • that was a side discussion about men disappearing for a pint and judgement on drink driving... so the point it is illegal in parts of the UK was relevant to that side discussion.

I and other posters are responding to someone saying it's no big deal if someone does stop while driving to drink alcohol as that was an initial suggestion as to where OP's husband might be. Something being illegal in another part of the country is relevant to that conversation as it speaks to the wisdom of doing something. I'm also not certain that drinking a pint and then immediately setting back out on the road wouldn't be illegal in England, it would depend on your body composition. It is certainly a very dumb idea, though.

Hoglet70 · 24/08/2024 22:46

To be fair, much as I find @batt3nb3rg very judgey (but lets agree to disagree @batt3nb3rg because I hate falling out with people on here) I wouldn't drive after a glass of wine as I can feel I have drunk it but I am a little shortarse. DH is a big strapping bloke who is well under the limit after a pint or a small glass of wine.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 24/08/2024 22:46

He locked the keys and his phone in the car?

Omg i never saw the end of that thread. Did they find it? 😬

I don’t think so. I saw it mentioned on one of those ‘what happened to…..’ threads and it didn’t have an answer then.

HotSpoonToIt · 24/08/2024 22:49

DH had gone to the first shop. Not found what we needed so driven a much further distance to a second shop (as some of you predicted). Then the satnav in the car stopped working on the way back so he didn’t know where he was going. And he had no signal on his phone to let me know what was going on. (I was going to update earlier but was distracted by DC). In the end the most boring non event ever to be posted on Mumsnet.

Well I'm glad for your sake it was a boring non event!
Just glad to hear there were no accidents or drama.

Is your DH my BIL ? Just the sort of thing he would do. Now you have pondered that , stop ! My BIL is no longer married, his ex couldn’t cope!

EuclidianGeometryFan · 24/08/2024 23:22

And that is why you should always have a physical paper road atlas in the car.

Glad all is well in the end.

Bogginsthe3rd · 24/08/2024 23:22

He's having an affair. LTB

You’re right there

Mamabearsmile · 24/08/2024 23:24

Yay! So glad it was resolved. Would've definitely shared your anxiety though. We're no longer built for the outdoors. Top tip: on all other trips make him call before stopping to get all your bits whilst you're allstill together. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

JohnTheRevelator · 24/08/2024 23:39

Glad to hear it all ended well OP! I would have been worrying too if it had happened to me.

WearyAuldWumman · 24/08/2024 23:45

Glad he's safe and sound. :)

Marseillaise · 25/08/2024 00:00

Your husband needs to learn how to use the map on his phone as a back up for the satnav

TransformerZ · 24/08/2024 19:50

Gone to meet someone?

Did you get off on insinuating an affair?

I don't know if your car satnav works like the old portable ones used to, but if you can ask it to plan a route and leave the plan on the screen instead of showing a road map and directing you, you can find your way to your destination even if the GPS signal goes.

Glad he's back safe and sound anyway
