DH disappeared from campsite

My DH went to the shop to get some bits for tea (shop 10 minute drive away) about an hour and a half ago. He isn’t answering his phone. We are on a camp site in the middle of nowhere. How long do I give it before I start stressing? And what do I do? Something about being so far from home is making me panic more than I normally would.

Oof, the police make you wait a day or two don't they, probably best going yourself to try and find him. Before dark

No they don't. That's a myth perpetuated mostly by TV shows

He’s just text me to say he won’t be long and he’s had a nightmare! I know as soon as I posted a Mumsnet thread he’d be in touch 😂

It worked! Please let us know his story. Glad he's back.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 24/08/2024 20:03

Yay! So glad you've heard from him, that stomach-gnawing anxiety is an awful feeling.

LittleGreenDuck · 24/08/2024 20:04

Phew! I was about to comment that my DH takes just to nip to the local shop for a loaf of a bread than I do to do a full weekly shop in the big supermarket. He dawdles and inspects absolutely everything in the shop. I was hoping yours was the same.

Hoping the nightmare was of the "couldn't find the right beer" nature, rather than anything more dramatic.

Delphiniumandlupins · 24/08/2024 20:04

Also, is it a big campsite? Easy to lose your caravan or tent sometimes.

RedRobyn2021 · 24/08/2024 20:05

Oh good I am glad

Yes this- I wish people would stop repeating this as it’s not true and might delay people getting help.

OP- I’m glad he’s let you know he’s fine.

spiderlight · 24/08/2024 20:08

Glad he's been in touch! I'm intrigued about his adventure now though.

suburberphobe · 24/08/2024 20:09

Goodness, camping in a field in the middle of nowhere with young children?

Something I would never do.

I love nature, but holiday in a field with no-one else around? <shudder>

No they don't, that's a myth, don't let that put anyone off in the future

Moier · 24/08/2024 20:11

Oh what a relief.
Please tell him.. all of us wants to know about his " nightmare".

partiallydeflatedbutoptimistic · 24/08/2024 20:11

Im invested to hear the tale of the nightmare now

Elphamouche · 24/08/2024 20:14

I’m invested! I would have been a wreck lol

heldinadream · 24/08/2024 20:15

Tell him there are at least 60 mumsnetters waiting to hear what happened! 😂

PinkyFlamingo · 24/08/2024 20:18

Maybe the car broke down?

Corinthiana · 24/08/2024 20:18

Maybe he was abducted by aliens

Sheelanogig · 24/08/2024 20:19

Phew at him.getting in contact.
Hope the nightmare isn't massive.

viques · 24/08/2024 20:19

Walking past casually, have stopped to tie up my shoelace and look over the fence to enjoy the view……

Thurien · 24/08/2024 20:21

I’m glad to hear he has made contact. Nothing serious and he is with us.

When I was six, we went on holiday to Ireland for three weeks. This was in the early 1960’s. Lovely relaxed itinerary. When we checked into the caravan site, my father went into the reception and shop. My mother didn’t worry as he was a great talker and a people person. We hung about the car. After 45 minutes my elder brother went into check.

Father was out cold on the floor. A massive stroke. He was 42. Fit, healthy, non-smoker, He made a full recovery eventually but our holiday was confined to the caravan as my mother didn’t drive. An ambulance transported us around 50 miles each day to hospital and then back. Then playing with pebbles in the car park. One family brought us chips twice a week, other than that tinned soup and breakfast cereal. Two uncles had to take the ferry over to drive us all home at the end of the three weeks.

FatherConfesserTheGuesser · 24/08/2024 20:21

Mumsnet is amazing, sure to cure everything 😂

Glad he is ok, let us know what happened

shellyleppard · 24/08/2024 20:22

Op glad he's on the way back. Please keep us updated x

This isn't correct. There's no limit on how long you have to wait before reporting someone missing.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 24/08/2024 20:28

Glad he's got in touch. "A nightmare" could be anything, eg not being able to find the crisps he wanted, a tree down in the road causing a 10 mile diversion, loose cows, flat tyre... Depends on how dramatic he usually is I suppose.

ohyesido · 24/08/2024 20:31

Is he still not back?

WiddlinDiddlin · 24/08/2024 20:32

Yeah, I'm invested now, I need to know if the nightmare was real - car accident, road blocked by curry filled exploding elephant etc... or more 'man nightmare' ie 'shop didn't have the beer I wanted'.
