DH disappeared from campsite

My DH went to the shop to get some bits for tea (shop 10 minute drive away) about an hour and a half ago. He isn’t answering his phone. We are on a camp site in the middle of nowhere. How long do I give it before I start stressing? And what do I do? Something about being so far from home is making me panic more than I normally would.

It's not having a pint in the afternoon that's an issue. Buying some beers to bring back to the camp site to have with dinner is not at all anything to raise an eyebrow at. Going out to get food for your family, knowing that they are waiting on you to be able to eat after their journey and unpacking, and choosing to stop off to consume alcohol, keeping everyone waiting, knowing you then have to drive on, would be suggestive that you need alcohol to function, yes. Because those who don't need it to function wouldn't even have the idea to do that cross their minds.

Also, clearly stopping off for a beer while out for a walk without people waiting for you to return so they can eat is clearly not the same thing as leaving your wife and young kids waiting up well into the night so they can have dinner while you're out drinking and driving because you couldn't wait half an hour for alcohol.

Drinking and driving is putting other people's lives at risk. Anyone who would consider it in anything but the direst emergency is a bottom-of-the-barrel degenerate, yes. This is only controversial to those with deeply warped morals.

This is the kind of answer that gives Mumsnet a bad name lol.

Whatever can have happened to be that long? Hope all is ok

DH can easily make a 10 minute job last several hours through a series of unfortunate events.

Mumistiredzzzz · 24/08/2024 21:21

Really?! 😂 Like what?

Oof, the police make you wait a day or two don't they, probably best going yourself to try and find him. Before dark

Completely untrue and useless response.

That's not actually true (though a common myth)
There is no time limit on reporting someone missing as what is usual for one person may be a huge concern with another person. Each case is looked at independently when ever it is reported.

I found those responses really strange too. If I sent DH off to get food for me and some hungry kids, I'd expect him to go and get food and come straight back?! Who just wanders off for a pint when your family are expecting you to return. Especially if you're driving?!

Never in a car but we live in a city and there have been times he has just bumped into an old colleague or friend and gone for a pint, yes, that said it is pretty rare and we have teenagers who aren’t particularly bothered about eating food at a certain time and will just snack.

Being anti-drink driving gives a person a bad name? That's a new one 😂

Nightowl1234 · 24/08/2024 21:46

Who else is waiting for the update?!

00BonneMaman00 · 24/08/2024 21:47

What happened OP?

🙋‍♀️ - I’m checking every 10 mins!!! Been reading since OP first posted - I’m invested now.

TickingAlongNicely · 24/08/2024 21:48

The OP has disappeared into the same wormhole as her husband.

Or... they are busy with a late dinner and settling the children.

The judgement, not the anti-drink driving.

Lol, being anti drink driving and thinking men should be considerate of their wives and children? Gosh you and your gold standards!

Try phoning the petrol station. I think he will have gone to another shop with more choice/better prices. I would not worry for 2 - 3 hours, unless he's buying stuff you need to feed kids.

Nope! They started looking for my DS within 4hours ( and found him)
edit: oops sorry that was supposed to be in response to police not looking for a day or two

It's not controversial to be judgemental of drink driving. I'm judgemental of crime, yes, most people are. I bet most people who drink drive are even judgemental of crimes they personally don't engage in.

I just think one pint is hardly endangering lives!

TickingAlongNicely · 24/08/2024 22:05

One pint would be over the limit in Scotland.

Clawdy · 24/08/2024 22:09

Hope all OK.

Glad he’s safe, but don’t let us down OP. We don’t want another lost ironing board in the flat type scenario 😁.

Omg i never saw the end of that thread. Did they find it? 😬
