DH disappeared from campsite

My DH went to the shop to get some bits for tea (shop 10 minute drive away) about an hour and a half ago. He isn’t answering his phone. We are on a camp site in the middle of nowhere. How long do I give it before I start stressing? And what do I do? Something about being so far from home is making me panic more than I normally would.

I'm sorry op I hope he's ok

peachgreen · 24/08/2024 19:56

No real advice OP but I would also be worrying. Have you met anyone else at the site who might be willing to drive you to the services to at least see if he made it that far?

TickingAlongNicely · 24/08/2024 19:56

Ask any "neighbours" if they can go for a quick scout around? (Just to shop and back) with a description of the car.

As I'm presuming the kids are waiting for dinner?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/08/2024 19:56

I agree with posters saying that he's found the petrol station shop didn't have anything useful in it and he's taken directions to the nearest big supermarket. It might be some way away (thinking of our area, where it can be half an hour's drive) so I wouldn't panic yet.

Elderflower14 · 24/08/2024 19:56

Hope he is soon back...

Doggymummar · 24/08/2024 19:57

Oof, the police make you wait a day or two don't they, probably best going yourself to try and find him. Before dark

Tinaforshort · 24/08/2024 19:57

Hopefully it’s something as simple as a flat tyre. If it was a petrol station shop is it possible they didn’t have what you needed? Or was it something simple like bread/milk.

MargaretThursday · 24/08/2024 19:57

What's he like with directions?

I once found myself going wrong way on the M4. It seemed forever before I came to the next junction.

Sidebeforeself · 24/08/2024 19:57

I’d be worried too though. 2 hours and then I’d try to phone the shop but its not necessarily and indication of anything if they don’t remember him

Littletreefrog · 24/08/2024 19:57

Is the signal bad around where you are?
Is DH mentally well or anything other than him just being longer than expected causing you to worry?
Is he usually good at answering his phone or calling to let you know a change of plan?

All these things might change how much I would panic.

weetee0102 · 24/08/2024 19:58

Is there anyone you can call to let them know what's going on and give them your location just incase, especially given you're alone in a field with no transport?

Does site have an office or shop or someone there? Ask for a lift to the shop you thought he was going to?

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 24/08/2024 19:59

Hoping he is back soon and everything is fine Hotspoon xxx

LoudSnoringDog · 24/08/2024 20:00

I would be worried if it was clear that he was just popping to the shop to get a few items and he's not one for detouring via a pub

Marmite27 · 24/08/2024 20:00

What’s the weather like? There were still lots of trees down or falling around our campsite this morning.

Could he have got down a road and a tree come down preventing him getting back up?

Hope he’s back soon OP

Heelworkhero · 24/08/2024 20:00

He probably realised how awful camping is and checked into a hotel! 😂

HotSpoonToIt · 24/08/2024 20:01

He’s just text me to say he won’t be long and he’s had a nightmare! I know as soon as I posted a Mumsnet thread he’d be in touch 😂

Eileen101 · 24/08/2024 20:01

Could it be that they didn't have what he needed at the small shop and he's gone in search of tesco/asda/Morrisons?

Sidebeforeself · 24/08/2024 20:01

Oh that feeling of relief !

Should have posted earlier - saved yourself the stress!

Glad he's been located. Bet the nightmare involves the shops not having what you needed or Apple Pay not working or something.

Hope he's brings you back some decent grub Grin

Delphiniumandlupins · 24/08/2024 20:03

Try phoning the petrol station. I think he will have gone to another shop with more choice/better prices. I would not worry for 2 - 3 hours, unless he's buying stuff you need to feed kids.
