What's the most popular boys' and girls' name in your kid's class/school currently?

Seems like 90% of kids in primary schools in my area are called Olivia and Harry.

Sorry just realised this is about primary age. DS is 13.

My husband has two of them! 😂

Bonnie Prince Charlie, the only king named after three sheepdogs 😂

Yozzer87 · 22/08/2024 11:38

Isla, Delilah, Amelia, Sophie/ Sophia, Ava. Boys names that are popular and overused at the moment are Joseph, Alfie, Theo, Isaac.

Imagine naming your child Sorelle and then there being more than one of them!

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 22/08/2024 11:40

6 children in my daughters class.
4 boys and 3 of them are Tyler.

I hadn’t heard of them either, there may be pop culture influence somewhere, or just local connections meaning people hear the name.

Kaleb is on Clarkson Farm but thats too recent to effect primary school names!

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 22/08/2024 12:21

My children's schools have many Sophies, Harrys, Aminahs, Lilys & Jadens.
The school I work at has several Kevins, Sofias, Musas, Iosifs & Ahmeds.

There are trends that last a while, then get too popular so ppl avoid them. My own girls have names that became popular after I named them, each time I tried to pick less popular ones but it never worked out & they often have to include their surname initial to distinguish in their classes. Think I've cracked it with my son though as he has a very marmite name.

I have a Rory, and have been amazed by how many of them there are! Didn't think was unusual or anything, but he was one of 4 in his nursery room!

All the Evie, Ava, Ada, Amalie, Emilia type names....I know they are not the same name but they sort of blur in to one.

Yes, all these names here. Plus Flora and Sadie.

For boys: Harris / Harrison, Evan, Alexander,

My oldest DD is 7 and called Rachel. People always comment on how unusual her name is and she's not encountered another Rachel at nursery/school/ in out of school activities. When I shout her across the playground about 10 mums react!

Youngest DD is 2 and in a baby class we did there was a baby Sarah.

MelodyMalone · 22/08/2024 15:25

To me, Rachel and Sarah are timeless classics. But they were definitely more popular 30-40 years ago!

My nan's name was Elsie and she regularly bemoaned how old-fashioned it was (I've always liked it). She'd be astounded to know it has come back into fashion.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/08/2024 15:39

My DS (25) is Max. There were no other Max at his nursery and only one other Max in his primary then none through secondary/6th form or university.

I was told it was an old man’s name but it seems from this it’s gained popularity

Ballymolly · 21/08/2024 21:19

Where does Arlo come from and why so popular? That seems quite random.

There was a film about a friendly dinosaur. My partner mentioned it for our son and I hell noed it out of the discussion. The dinosaur is "cute" extremely cute. Great name for a baby but terrible for a grown man in my opinion

MidnightPatrol · 21/08/2024 17:36

I know several Ottilies and several Arias.

I haven't come across any young Ottilies

My Great-Aunt was Ottilie, my Grandma was Eveline, which I've never come across either.

Butwhybecause · 22/08/2024 16:12

I know an Arlo but she's a girl and not at school yet.

There's a Sophie at a playgroup we go to and it evokes the same reaction!

Vanillaradio · 22/08/2024 17:32

Ds is going into y 6- Olivia is hands down the most popular for girls his age - we seem to meet new ones everywhere! also encountered several of the following- Sophia, Esme, Ava, Isla.
Boys- a lot of Reuben, Jacob and Noah.

UnravellingTheWorld · 22/08/2024 17:37

I had Ada picked as a potential girl's name as I've never met another person called Ada. This thread has REALLY opened my eyes!

Fortunately none of the names on my boy's shortlist has been mentioned in the entire thread 😁

Surgarblossom · 22/08/2024 17:50

3x Olivia's 2x Tobias's

Overthebow · 22/08/2024 18:21

Evie/Edie. There are so many around and the names sound the same so it's like there's more than there is.

Ozgirl75 · 22/08/2024 20:52

Otillie always brings to mind an ear infection for me - too close to Otitis!
We’ve got a few Sarahs, and an Aria who is a horrible bully of a girl which has sadly put me off quite a pretty name.
Rachel is lovely!
One you never hear any more but I love is Lucy.

Legoninjago1 · 23/08/2024 08:27

I think Julia is having a resurgence... never used to like it but I really do now!
