What's the most popular boys' and girls' name in your kid's class/school currently?

Seems like 90% of kids in primary schools in my area are called Olivia and Harry.

OP posts:

Max, William, Isaac, Lilly, Isabelle/a, Oliver. Small rural school in SE. Outside of school we know a few Henry's & Isla's.

It’s really notable that names beginning with vowels have been popular in the last decade whereas when I was young it was consonants (Sarah, Laura, Rachel)

Zoflorabore · 21/08/2024 22:40

Work in school here, NW, deprived area.

lots of E and A names for girls and I really dislike the name Amelia it just sounds harsh to me. Boy wise we have hardly any duplicates apart from Harry, Noah, Oliver and Jack which is interesting because my son is now 21 and 3 of his best friends are called Jack and all of their surnames start with the same letter!

when ds was at school he was the only one in primary and secondary with his name ( Oliver ) but now it’s everywhere.

UnctuousUnicorns · 21/08/2024 22:44

DC 3 is in S4 now, but looking at her primary school teatowel, the most common boys name were Callum, Lewis and Logan. Girls' names - Grace, Olivia, and variations of Eve/Evie/Eva.

elliejjtiny · 21/08/2024 22:45

I find this kind of thing fascinating. My ds1 is 18 and there were a lot of Harry's and Dylan's in his class. Girls names really varied.

Ds2 is 16 and there are a few Lewis's in his year, probably because 16 years ago is when Lewis Hamilton started to become famous.

This thread is driving me insane!
Why on earth is everyone using an apostrophe to type the plural of a name?
Good grief. What has happened to literacy skills?

Thank you!!

Hotpolarbear · 21/08/2024 22:47

Matilda, Freya, Finley, Jack, lily, poppy,

Oscar, Theo/Ted/Teddy, Freddie, Oliver, Reuben, Arlo, Alfie, Harry/Harrison, George.
Aria, Maisie, Poppy, Ottilie, Millie/Tilly/Lily, Amelie/Aurelie, Grace, Isla.

MelodyMalone · 21/08/2024 22:52

Daughter is 17 - her school year was always full of Jamies (loads of those), Emmas, Sophies. Her best friend is Isla.

(@CamillaDonald I think the apostrophe thing might be due to autocorrect - my phone keeps trying to put apostrophes in the plural names!)

Mine are teens now but there were many Charlie and Jack's when they were at primary school.

addictedtotheflats · 21/08/2024 23:01

Not a single name is duplicated in my DS class. Its a very diverse school in general and I would hazard a guess of 10-15 nationalities/ethnicities in his class alone

ScruffMuffin · 21/08/2024 23:12

I work in a school. 6 out of 18 girls in one year group are called Isobel, Isabella or Bella.

ScruffMuffin · 21/08/2024 23:14

Quite a few of the boys are Charlies and Archies.

RosyappleA · 21/08/2024 23:18

Amelia/Amelie, Olivia, Isabella, Ayla, Evie, Lilly, Emily, Poppy, Ellie, Eliana

Ballymolly · 21/08/2024 21:19

Where does Arlo come from and why so popular? That seems quite random.

I assumed it was because names ending in o are having a moment (I know Theo, Juno, Cleo, Leo, and Hugo). Plus soft sounding names with two syllables and lots of vowels (cf Ava, Eva, Noah, Isla, Arthur etc)

Moonshiners · 21/08/2024 23:24

Coffeeandcrocs · 21/08/2024 19:13

South coast!

Lots of Harry's, Alfies, Albies, Archies, Jack's, Louies, George's

Girls wise lots of Mias, Lily's, Islas, Amelias

@CamillaDonald this one is the most confusing.

In my DS year 1 group we have multiples of Florence, Violet and Reuben. No Amelias/Emilias or Olivias. My DD has two Rosannas in her nursery class. I’m in the SW.

WannabeMeeeeee · 21/08/2024 22:19

Arlo for boys and Iris for girls

Just call your kid Brian or Trevor. Not likely to encounter one of those in a primary school nowadays

Edited

Got 4 boys names Bryan/Brian in my school. Irish traveller community.
