What's the most popular boys' and girls' name in your kid's class/school currently?

Seems like 90% of kids in primary schools in my area are called Olivia and Harry.

OP posts:

The only duplicate we have is Maria. Two boys have similarish names. We have a high proportion of EU families so there are lots of Spanish, French and Italian names.

RockahulaRocks · 21/08/2024 19:23

Olivia and Henry. There are 3 of each in DD’s reception class. Also Evie, Willow, Rose, and Louis give a good showing across the reception year too. I haven’t come across any little Lily’s in either nursery or reception so far though. SW London, less affluent part, rather than the super-affluent areas maybe.

Amelia, Ava, Mia, Poppy
Harry (there's 3 in my son's class), Finley, Riley,

If you really want to be unusual picking your childs name now? Go for a real 80's popular one. For boys, go for Christopher, or Mark, for girls, go for Claire, Louise or Laura. You'll struggle to find a reception kid with any of these names 😂

We have a lot of Ethans, Jaspers and Leos.

Almost all of the girls have E or M names. Eva, Esme, Ellie, Evie, Mia, Mya, Maya, Millie, Maryam

Whereabouts are you? We also have many Leos and E girls

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 21/08/2024 19:40

4 Amelia’s in my DD’s upper primary class. Only 28 in the class total.

mewkins · 21/08/2024 19:43

Freddie and Teddy (sometimes just Ted) and Max are the only duplicates here (top end of primary). My dd is several years into secondary and there are lots of Lily, Grace, Ruby and then a real mixture of names.

SprinkleOfSunak · 21/08/2024 19:46

Mya.
Chloe.
Max.

Twistybranch · 21/08/2024 19:46

Ben for boys is super popular

Isla and Ivy are popular for girls

AgathaSultana · 21/08/2024 19:49

Alfie and Matilda

Gnomeo8 · 21/08/2024 19:51

In reception - Isabelle and Hallie for girls here. The usual Harry, Jack and George for boys.

My eldest is 17 now and was 1 of 4 Lilys and 1 Lilliana in her 2 form year. Definitely not a unique choice back then!

Harassedmum123 · 21/08/2024 19:53

Most popular girls names are Evie, Ava, Emily (three of each in the year group) also similar names like Eva and Ada. Boys names are Jack, James and Luca.

Rockmehardplace · 21/08/2024 19:55

Harper, Lilly & Aria for girls
Jack & Noah for boys

Notonthesamepage · 21/08/2024 20:02

Harry, Teddy and Lily. Loads of all of them.

Totally! I suggested that the the really subversive thing to call DD2 would be Sarah 😂

This thread is driving me insane!
Why on earth is everyone using an apostrophe to type the plural of a name?
Good grief. What has happened to literacy skills?

Abdjckfvdi · 21/08/2024 20:06

Jayden / Kayden / Brayden etc are popular, for girls Nevaeh and double barrelled names e.g. Lily-Rose, Ava-Grace

I’m a primary teacher and last year I had 6 Muhammeds in my class.

I’m in west yorkshire.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 21/08/2024 20:12

Riley, Finley, Lily.

ErasPoor · 21/08/2024 20:16

Every class I have taught for the last 8 years has had an Olivia/Oliwia in it.

I teach in an area in London which has a very large Polish community so our most popular names are a little different. The most popular girls names are Maja, Oliwia, Veronika, Pola and Ola. The most popular boys names are Kacper, Szymon, Natan and Filip.

perplexedandbemused · 21/08/2024 20:16

There are two or three boys called Otis in our two class year group (heading into year 1) two called Oscar/Oskar and two girls called Olive...I think that's it for repeats. Seems O names are popular here in the south west!!

Not school, but I am forever hearing Noah, Fin and Ruben in the playgrounds for boys, and probably Clara and Ivy most for girls.

My son's name hasn't appeared in this thread yet in spite us knowing about 9 others of them in our town. Don't know a single one elsewhere in the country 😅

Cheepcheepcheep · 21/08/2024 20:19

Preschool so slightly younger, we have multiples of Ava, Josh and Max. Surrey.

@FraterculaArctica @MissingMoominMamma@rc22 @perplexedandbemused

I have a question for those with repeat Oscars! Do they go by a nickname? This is currently the only name me and my partner both like for a boy (which is what we have coming), and we both like the nickname Oz, but I am worried about the popularity of Oscar at the moment. However if the other Oscars aren't going by Oz then that wouldn't be such an issue..

Peter, Susan, Christopher, Jane

I guess at some point they'll all come round again.

perplexedandbemused · 21/08/2024 20:28

@BatildaBII our two are in the same year but different classes so I don't think it's too much of an issue. However with the other repeats they tend to stick the first letter of the surname on the end when differentiating rather than nicknaming. So Olive G and Olive L for example.

No Olivias in either of my children's school years. My DH however has 3 colleagues named Olivia and there were 4 at his last place. All early 20's so I think it's a 2000s name

It's not just 2000s. My niece (7) is Olivia, and there are four in her class. It's been high on the list of most popular names for a few years now.
