What's the most popular boys' and girls' name in your kid's class/school currently?

Seems like 90% of kids in primary schools in my area are called Olivia and Harry.

I thought it had been here for a while.

I quite like the name

I love the sound of the name, but hate the "heaven backwards" thing.
I would find a different spelling if I ever used it (which I wont, I'm way past the having babies stage of life lol).

Peter, Susan, Christopher, Jane

I guess at some point they'll all come round again.

I have had two variations on Susan in my last class.

@BatildaBII I knew someone with a dog called Oscar and it used to get shortened to Oscy/Osky or just Osc/Osk. I imagine the same would happen for a child!

@BatildaBII we've got an Oscar and yes he does get shortened to Osky and Oz....however, he does have a preference and actually likes his full name. If I had my time again, I would spell it Oskar...but that's because we have a Germanic connection and it's a shame we didn't go for it at the time.

Florence. There are multiple Florence’s in every class

Primary teacher for 18 years in Kent and Surrey and never taught a Florence! 😆

Yerto · 22/08/2024 00:53

I am in South Wales - primary age I would say as a whole lots of Theo, Leo, George, Archie for boys, and for girls Isla, Olivia, Ella, Imogen.

Only duplicates in my daughter's year are Max and Lily.

Marcipex · 22/08/2024 01:19

Isla, Ella, Evie, Lucy, Ariana. Plus -may/mae.

Leo, Theo, Charlie, Freddie, Sebastian.

There are 3 in my youngests class and at least 2 in every other year in the school

metellaestinatrio · 22/08/2024 05:35

The only names repeated in my DC’s classes are Theo and Indie. Across the school, and at their various clubs etc., I see lots of the following:

Boys: Freddie, Henry, Leo, Louis, Thomas, Callum, Charlie
Girls: Eva, Jessica, Rosa, Emily

Pinkgrapefruit10 · 22/08/2024 05:44

I know 4 Scarlett’s, 3 Chloes, 3 Amelia’s in my DS’s school year.

ReacherSaidNothing · 22/08/2024 06:42

DS had two Sophies in his primary class, DD has two Sophies and a Sophia in hers

TickingAlongNicely · 22/08/2024 07:04

Olivia, the most common girls name, was used by 0.55% parents. Noah by 0.75%.

So statistically, in a class of 30, there shouldn't be any repeats. Its interesting how there are always clumps of names.

Interesting - I've never heard of any of those girls' names.

Seen a few Calebs and daughter had a Kaleb in her class.

I hadn’t heard of them either, there may be pop culture influence somewhere, or just local connections meaning people hear the name.

I have a question for those with repeat Oscars! Do they go by a nickname? This is currently the only name me and my partner both like for a boy (which is what we have coming), and we both like the nickname Oz, but I am worried about the popularity of Oscar at the moment. However if the other Oscars aren't going by Oz then that wouldn't be such an issue..

No nicknames for any Oscars I’ve known!

The only unique name in my DC's class is Mackenzie and she really suits her name. The rest of the kids have names which are shared by at least one other child! The name which has the most kids to it, is Harry! There's 7 in one class!

MorrisZapp · 22/08/2024 11:26

Scotland here. Boys names are often surnames and we have:

Campbell
Murray
Reid
Baird
Innes
Strachan
Kerr

That's at school. At football there are multiple Haydens and assorted Jacobs, Ollies and Masons.

No Jacks that I'm aware of in the entire year group (born 2010).

My son has one of the above names 😊

My son is Harry (now in his 30s) and when he was born it was considered quite odd! (I remember one woman laughing at me because it was so "old fashioned".) He was the only one in his school and has never met another one of his age. Obviously there's famous ones like Harry Kane.

I love how naming fashions change, it's so interesting.

@MelodyMalone It definitely is

Use of apostrophes in plurals in this manner is acceptable for clarity eg Mind your P's and Q's (not Ps and Qs), I'm at 6's and 7's (not 6s and 7s) and here - There are lots of Arlo's - not, there are lots of Arlos.
