For me, it's a combination of accent, subtle, expensive haircut & highlights or that perfect shade of blonde..

Also thick, swishy hair!

Overtheatlantic · 20/08/2024 16:11

Clothes from the charity shop and a stinky dog

FartingAgainstThunder · 20/08/2024 16:11

Seriously @MargotEmin was there really any need for that?
@Coffeeandacupcake asked a light-hearted question in the chat section, Why the nastiness?

FartingAgainstThunder · 20/08/2024 16:13

@Coffeeandacupcake I don't think I know any posh people these days but when I used to it was always that their large houses were bloody freezing and a bit smelly (dog smells)
My house smells of dog but it's always warm so definitely not posh 😊

Oh dear, that's rather disappointing.

Noras · 20/08/2024 16:17

They use mum net - literally everyone on here earns a million pounds a year or DH does,
has ten kids that went to public school and them Oxford, 10 dogs and a pony and still has time for a round of golf!

JaninaDuszejko · 20/08/2024 16:17

It's always just accent.

Scissorsisters · 20/08/2024 16:18

There are no universal markers.

Anotherusername2024 · 20/08/2024 16:19

I think it's impossible to describe! Posh just oozes posh for me?

You missed the bit where the OP said it was lighthearted.

mugglewump · 20/08/2024 16:21

Long hair with no parting, or shortish, floppy hair (esp boys); both types need a hand through them occasionally, which never gets stuck in a tangle and hair stays put without falling forward straight away. Manky old good marque car - posh people do not do flashy! LK Bennet. Accent. Private school. Can sail/ride a horse/ski/snowboard/play lacrosse or rugby (at least three of these).

invisiblecat · 20/08/2024 16:21

Good manners.

Westfacing · 20/08/2024 16:21

Has no hesitation in buying second hand uniform for public school

Foxblue · 20/08/2024 16:23

Long, thick swishy hair in their natural colour or with really subtle highlights. Emphasis on thick - either they all know something we don't haircare wise, or the genetics swirling around us locally are really strong!

Peclet · 20/08/2024 16:23

Well rounded, sporty, polite, has dogs, comfortable in social situations, good conversationalist and the men are attentive to their partners.

Posh people don’t do golf! 😱

RazzleDazz1e · 20/08/2024 16:29

Long, swishy hair….blonde- that’s funny.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 20/08/2024 16:34

The poshest person I knew was balding and dressed like he'd been at a jumble sale in the dark.

My own DC have been bullied for being posh. My friend told me yesterday that I'm the poshest person she knows. I'm a single Mum on benefits. Very much not posh.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 16:34

Deck shoes and chino shorts with a long sleeved shirt rolled up for men though some of the mere mortals around here
Have started to copy, usually with a Ralph Lauren shirt and a jauntily tied sweater over their shoulders.

ALunchbox · 20/08/2024 16:36

Are secure in having money so don't need to show off with flashy cars etc.

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 20/08/2024 16:38

Seems very confident and can talk to anyone. Thin ankles. Smokes. Swears a lot.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/08/2024 16:38

My posh acquaintances like to tell me they don't watch TV at any given opportunity. She has thin grey hair and he wears a fleece, so there are no visual clues with this pair.

TheGirlattheBack · 20/08/2024 16:40

They never use the word posh.

Wonkywinky · 20/08/2024 16:40

Old car and a messy front garden
